I don't think they have that big of a preference on the type of forward they want. I think the forward just needs to have a track record of offense and being able to play up in the lineup, to be efficient and likely either someone on an expiring contract (rental) or extremely affordable going into next season.

Granlund has been on their radar for awhile. I think that says a lot about the kind of forward they want.

I don't buy the Foligno rumours at all, especially with Columbus in the mix for a playoff spot and that team isn't rebuilding anytime soon. Same for Bjorkstrand who is signed to a fairly expensive contract for very average production. Giving up Kerfoot, a 1st AND Robertson for Bjorkstrand is very irresponsible to say the least... That's the kind of package you giving up for a top line-esque player... aka Forsberg.

I'm interested in Folingo but I'd agree the rumors surround him come across more like "this is who the journalist thinks will be a good fit for the team" rather than the Leafs are actively seeking them out

You get one, you gotta collect them all.

Not sure what Friedman is on, but there's zero chance the Leafs go after 5.7M Marc Staal here, even with 50% retention. That's the weirdest mention of a name this season by far. Not to mention he isn't very good.

Unless there's like some sort of huge magical retention trade and the Leafs get him to the taxi squad/AHL without a cap hit... I dunno.
Yeah not buying the Marc Staal one

Boom Boom I've noticed you here a lot today and I would just like to take this moment to knight (curse) you as an honourary Leaf fan. You poor thing :(

ha ha. As mentioned before, leafs have been my 2nd team for a couple years (bandwagon for sure because I like some of the players). Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to watch them this year due to life getting in the way so I haven't posted much on the Leaf's board recently. I do lurk from time to time though. The Leafs looks legit this year the few times I've watched them.

Alexander Kerfoot + 2022 3rd rd. Pick for Nick Foligno (50% retained)
2021 2nd rd. Pick for Eric Staal (50% retained)
Pierre Engvall + 2022 4th rd. Pick for Sam Bennett (50% retained)

Thornton - Matthews - Marner
Hyman - Tavares - Nylander
Foligno - Staal - Simmonds
Bennett - Spezza - Mikheyev

Foligno grit and PK
Staal 3C upgrade
Bennett grit upgrade

Some of the names being mentioned in the rumor mill are not going to have the desired effect IMO. We need a legit top 6 winger, preferably a rental to keep the acquisition cost down.

Considering our golden opportunity this season, our mindset has to be go big or go home.
stop with the childish pipe dream

honestly man,,,,,,,,our cap is pooched

we might,,,,,,,just might be able to fit 1 guy in the 3.7m max cap range,,,,,,,might

I don't know how much I want Staal

Wouldn't be my first choice that's for sure

Eric Staal

oh,,,,,,, he is my first choice,,,,,, all,,,,, day,,,,,,, long

price tag should not be bonkers///his cap hit won't be insane to make fit

2nd line LW or 3rd line C (shoots left),,2nd L PP

6.4 ,,,200lb+,,,,tons of experience and skill ,,,good in the dirty areas/corners

High H IQ,,,great leader,,,still has gas in the tank

expiring contract

I like where your head is at.
I’d pass on Staal if we are going for Bennett (which I prefer). I’d use those assets to get my hands on D.Savard.

Joey Anderson + 4th for Sam Bennett (50% Retained)
Kerfoot + Vesey + Amirov + Conditional 1st for Miles Wood

Thornton - Mathews - Marner
Wood - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Engvall - Hyman
Bennett - Spezza - Simmonds

i don't see Calg making that trade

and that price tag for woods??? hell no

I think we do need a solid #7 just in case, but I do agree that Staal is not that guy.
i'm not sure i would use the word "need"

Lehtonen and Lilly ain't bad fillers

but adding 1 more D would put a smile on my face

Lehtonen has looked pretty bad actually. Very disappointed in him.

Lilly and Sandin should just stay in the AHL until they're actual top-6 guys. Tough to jump into a play-off game after not playing at that age.

Fillip Forsberg would be a dream. I think he's the right type of player to load up on. This seems a good a year as any to go for the Cup. Forsberg played a big role on Nashville and I feel he has much more offensive production than he is showing at the moment.

It would be expensive. Amirov + 1st to start

I was skeptical at first, but the more I think about it it could make sense. He'd have to come.cheap (mid round pick) and 50% retained.

I don't think he should be our primary target but adding top 6 + Staal would be a solid deadline.

Never would I have imagined Spezza, Thornton, Simmonds, and Staal could potentially all play for the leafs at the same time. Reminds me of those early 2000 Quinn Leafs

well,,i'm not going to be one of "those guys"

that post fantasy trades/pick ups that ignore our cap issues this year/next year and the up coming exp draft.

Kerfoot is a name that comes up as possible bait to open cap space

problem is,,he is also our #1 go to C incase of injury

now you add Staal,,well ,,our injury C need is covered again and that opens up Kerf to all sorts of possibility's
