Or he was a not so great offensive player that was artificially boosted playing in the perfect spot on a great team.
I'm pretty sure DeBrusk would be our best option outside of Hall or Forsberg if he is available scoring wise

Tbh DeBrusk doesn't really take that many penalties, he's more of a depth scoring option with untapped potential IMO

I mean based on that Boston series against Toronto, he got away with a lot of penalties and dirty plays.

Just like Kadri, he may not get away with them forever. The last thing we need is another guy constantly taking bad penalties and suspensions at the worst possible time.

DeBrusk is okay, but he's similar to Kapanen. He is toolsy, but lacks the toolbox and has trouble gelling with his linemates.

Some of the names being mentioned in the rumor mill are not going to have the desired effect IMO. We need a legit top 6 winger, preferably a rental to keep the acquisition cost down.

Considering our golden opportunity this season, our mindset has to be go big or go home.

After Thursday, Toronto has five games in 14 days. It would not be a stunner if the Maple Leafs tried to make their move during this time to minimize quarantine on any player coming from the U.S. In the last week, Toronto’s been rumoured to be in on half the league, from Mattias Ekholm to Filip Forsberg, to Mikael Granlund to Eric Staal and Marc Staal.

We will see what GM Kyle Dubas decides to do.

Not sure what Friedman is on, but there's zero chance the Leafs go after 5.7M Marc Staal here, even with 50% retention. That's the weirdest mention of a name this season by far. Not to mention he isn't very good.

Unless there's like some sort of huge magical retention trade and the Leafs get him to the taxi squad/AHL without a cap hit... I dunno.

Another article from the Athletic pushing Granlund to the Leafs with pros and cons.

Are the Maple Leafs and Mikael Granlund a trade fit? Breaking down his game, acquisition cost, more

They compared Granlund to the Zuccarello and Nyquist trades, which were both for a 2nd and a 3rd round pick (some conditions to either).

I'm.back aboard the Granlund train. He seems to be undervalued (meaning cheap) and his underlying numbers are super interesting.

Probably would be my first choice unless they could get a star like Hall for a reasonable price
