No. You agree with me. I said Girardi has more value. Re-read the post. I am saying people have un realistic expectations in a return for Callahan and to a lesser extent, Girardi. Implying that although the demands may be high, they are more reasonable due to Girardi having more value. I also agree there is no future in resigning them both although I do hope we resign Danny G.

ok yes. i did misread it. then we agree.

i think with the del zotto trade for kleiner and the continued (im hoping) improved play of moore and then moving both those guys, we have a chance to improve this team talent wise.

this is an opportunity to transform this team while retaining the core. while both those guys were loyal soldiers, their contract demands make this a time to look forward without them.

I hope this game doesn't make people think that he is all of a sudden worth the contract he is asking for.

Callahan's agent after the game:

"We believe my client is worth 11 million per season for 7 seasons".

I got it. Callahan takes Arods place on the Yankees this year and they leave the rink on the field.

game doesn't change a thing. nyr fans romanticize the hell out of players. it's gonna be painful to see cally go, still has to be done.

I think most of us realize that if he's dealt, it's for business reasons only. Tonight was just a reminder on why it sucks.

Its really gonna hurt...

Watching the team go from a contender from the early 90s till the late 90s when the dark yrs started Cally represents so much of what we not only wanted for and from this team during that terrible time but also what it needed.... And to see him go is gonna suck bad....But I understand why it needs to be done and just hope the front office has, and follows thru with a plan going forward

Yea. I've said it a few times...my brain is 100% behind it. My heart as a Ranger fan is gonna have a tough time seeing it go down.

Don't blame him, don't blame the Rangers, it is what it is. But tonight was pretty fun, and special.

I think this was a great example game of what kind of player Callahan can be and has shown to be in the past and will I assume up his value some on the trade market.

I hope it ends up not being special. I hope it ends up being just another game.

I don't know anymore.

He needs to lower his demands then. He does not have enough of these type of games to justify $6.85 million...heck even $6 million per year. All he did was up his trade value during a week when the team is trying to trade him.

6.85 is insane, nobody's going to argue.

In the current market, I'm fine with 6M.

I don't know who to be mad at.

Very nice of Callahan to have a good game to raise his trade stock a little, but with what he's demanding, he absolutely needs to go. Seeing the vastly more talented captain across the way, Tavares, take a $5.5 mil cap hit for 6 years, while saying "This is where I wanted to live, play and ultimately lead our team to a Stanley Cup," speaks volumes.

Tavares will still be a young man, even in hockey terms, at the end of that contract.

Tavares being a RFA at the time also speaks volumes.

Callahan's been a great player for us--a leader both on and off the ice. He plays with consistency and grit all the time. He just wants too much $--that's all and he might just get it as an unrestricted free agent. I don't blame him for it but I'm not going to jump all over Sather for trading him either as long as he can bring back something pretty decent.

I also wonder what kind of effect it's going to have on the Rangers--they're on a roll right now and I'd like to see it continue.

This is what concerns me the most. What kind of effect is taking the captain of our surging team out of the lineup and locker room?
