This is what concerns me the most. What kind of effect is taking the captain of our surging team out of the lineup and locker room?

Idk, but despite our recent surge, I still don't consider this team a legitimate contender, and that moving Callahan would be the best move for future teams at this point.

I think this team is legit. Strong defense. Balanced offense. Top 3 goalie.

He played his great game for the month. Drove his value up to a team that wants him great job and thank you capt. Cally

Honestly, with the way the team's playing right now, I'd be ok with them not trading Cally and making a run. Even if you have to do a sign+trade with his rights early in the offseason for a severely diminished return.

Team's won like 11 of their last 13 or something.

I still cannot get over the number of people willing to rip apart a very good (and still not that old) hockey team. Ain't happening. This is a win now team and all of a sudden it is looking like a team that could make a deep run this year. I still think this is a well orchestrated charade and nothing more than Sather playing hardball. If Sather makes a trade now (very unlikely) it will be a hockey trade.

The team will probably take a step back, but this decision can't be made with just this year in mind.

I don't think resigning Callahan is a decision just for this year.

He'll be productive for at least another 3.

And if the same money is going to Stastny... It's a no brainer for me.

This, this, and this. They have 3 lines that are a legitimate scoring threat. When was the last time this happened? Hell, even in the glorious year of 1994, weren't Mess, Leetch, Gravy, Kovy, and Zub doing just about everything?

Tavares being a RFA at the time also speaks volumes.

You'll have to explain how that works to me, since two years of his extension would've been as an UFA and he could've simply signed a one year extension instead and went to arbitration. He left many, many millions on the table.

Numerous times this yr where Cally was hurt... If u want to know check those games out. Lost some, won some.

Tonight isn't the rule. It's the exception unfortunately. If it were the other way around we would've signed him by now.

I concur. I know the doom and gloom crowd will say differently. Penguins will be a good test.

I'm really happy with the defense. I'm really happy with Henrik. If Glen is serious about being a serious contender this year he needs to add another scorer. Hagelin needs to be shifted down to the 3rd line. Poo scratched.

If Callahan wasn't the Captain - such an important piece to the locker room, I would even argue that Miller could step in and provide the same production on the ice.

Yes. Callahan is the type of player that you want for the playoffs, and not always for pure numbers, which as we've seen, can be very hard to come by in the playoffs where league scoring drops like a rock (well... except when there is a Pitt/Philly series going on :help:)

I know many will disagree with me...but i am a huge advocate for Jagr.

I dont know if you can scratch Poo. But then again i dont want to touch that 4th line.

I'm a huge fan of Jagr too. But he chose to go to a team that will make it awfully hard for us to trade for him.

Most players will take the security of a multi-year contract over the risk of being injured in the arbitration year.

And what Tavares left on the table, long-term, isn't really the issue. The issue is that he was negotiating with a single team. Callahan can use other teams as leverage in a way that Tavares couldn't.

Callahan is making it very hard to be kept. He deserves to be paid, he's earned it. That's our price to pay for forcing him into the top 6 when he deserved to always remain on the 3rd line and excel there.

But as captain he also needs to recognize that what he's demanding is going to cripple this team and its success if he gets it. He also needs to realize that the F.O realizes that and that he's pricing himself out, intentionally, just to get more money.

If both sides are serious about continuing their relationship for years, the Rangers need to concede a year, and Callahan needs to concede 1 million a year. 6 for 5.85.

I'd rather that money go to Callahan rather than enigmatic Stastny.

Great. The team wins and now everyone thinks that we're contenders.

My stance hasn't changed. 1st/2nd round exit.

I feel pretty good about our chances of winning a round, maybe two, but I have almost no faith that the current team is capable of actually winning it all, which is the most important thing, obviously.

I feel that by trading Callahan for the bounty of assets he would garner, we set our team up better for runs in the near future.

Not very pretty? They skated with that team and competed. A dumb penalty by nash was the difference. Plus they wont play STL in the East

They crashed the net, we played perimeter hockey, we lost a lot of one on one battles and overall they were a lot more competitive individually then we were for that game. Our size and strength fell short and while the score was close, that game wasn't. But I agree, if we play St. Louis in the east, someone screwed up the scheduling, plus I always thought you gauge your team by how well your opponent is regardless of conferences.
