Speculation: Trade Thread Part XI: New year...no trades.

He's hurt. Property of Tampa Bay. He has over 200 NHL games. Listed as 6'3", 220lbs. He is also a right-handed shot. UND product. 26 years old though, but many posters claim that defensemen take longer to develope.
 
Lee was awesome at NoDak. But that was a long time ago.

That was some team he played on in '06. Toews. Zajac. Oshie. Stafford.

it wouldnt be such a big deal on here if our lefty D were actually good on the right side.

Nah, not in this case. I think its almost the opposite.

If its so easy to play RD, why don't we move McD there or Staal?

he didn't talk about position, only about being left-handed or right-handed. And yeah, it's getting kind of overrated. If you can get a good LH right defender you take him over the average RH right defender 10/10. F. ex. I played defender in the 2nd slovak junior league when I was younger, I'm left handed, but I was simply feeling more comfortable playing the right side. Not that I'm anywhere close to a NHL-defender, but it happens. Take Detroits whole defense as another example.

Hypothetically, which teams could you see being interested in Girardi? ANA, COL, SJ, PHX (if we take some cap back), perhaps MIN but I'm not seeing any pieces available I'd be interested in. DET, TOR, BOS. Could TB or OTT be stupid enough to make a push for him?

Edit: after thinking a bit about it, can't see OTT doing anything, because they just gave up Silvferberg + 1st.

I think it is a more, for lack of a better word, modern approach to building an optimized defense. There is some logic behind it for sure, but as said below if lefty D's are as effective playing playing on either side, then why not. Unfortunately the Rangers do not have that luxury.

Detroit, San Jose, Anaheim, Phoenix, Boston, and Colorado will all be in on Girardi, which should drive up the price a bit.

I appreciate the info from Dagoon whether it happens or not.

Makes a ton of sense considering the Leafs trade Liles and have been playing terribly


EDIT: I like Del Zotto's game tonight.

Rangers only trade for or sign these type of players. they cant develop that for some reason.. :help:

Guess it's difficult to find a guy with size who can skate and hit. And occasionally fight.

The odd thing is the blues have more than one type of player. Cody beach is similar as is Veilleux

Mashinter is easily as good as Veilluex and Cody Beach yet was overwhelmingly hated by the loudest voices on this board. 4th line scrappers that can play a little can be found anywhere. AV doesn't seem to have any interest in dressing that type.

No he wasent. Mash was really not very physical for his size. And he didn't even fight often.

Vellieux I would take over mash 10/10 times.


As for AV not wanting a 4th line scraper, what is Carcillo?

The handedness shouldn't be a fixation, but there is a legitimate point that there are two distinct defensive positions that are not interchangeable.

Come on, Carcillo? Undersized agitator. Disagree on Veilluex and Beach over Mash.
