Solid post there, Monkey D. Luffy. I think it still might be tough to get either Weiss or Kulemin. I'm expecting another surprise, left field trade(if one happens) where Lou thinks player X is perfect for our system even if it isn't an obvious choice.

I figured that was obvious  Lou almost never goes for the guys we think/want him to, or he is in on someone we never expected to be.

It seems Weiss might be possible with all the drama brewing down there with him plus Florida being in the gutter right now. Becomes hard if other teams are in on it.

A Zids type trade would be the best bet for a top 6 talent like it has already been mentioned.

Also think despite everything it would take another injury for Lou to move before he is ready. Trying to figure out Lou is impossible but my guess he figures the current team is perfectly able to right the ship to make the playoffs and thus he will look to beef up the potential playoff roster, not the current regular season roster just to break a slump.

I'm not saying he'll be our first line center for the next nine years.

My point is that having an acquisition readily penciled in ahead of the guy that committed the majority of his to the organization is wrong.

And if we talk on a production level, Grabovski only has 2 more points than Zajac in the same number of games played. Grabovski is also a -3, whereas Zajac is a +7.

We don't have to treat Zajac like a king for his whole stay here, but we have to at least give him some wink-wink preference. In the aftermath of the Parise situation, Zajac took a stand and committed to the club. IMO, he deserves a little special treatment for that alone.

You won't believe it but Zajac and Grabovski share more similarities than differences. If you think Grabovski is overpaid, so should Travis. Grabo like Zajac are terrific players at ES.

I'm fine with both players and both contracts.

Zajac's contract is fine for now. Towards the end it might not be pretty though as he gets older.

Question :

May someone remind me why would Toronto trade Kulemin ? He'd probably be my first reasonable choice for a trade. But why Toronto would do this, they're a playoffs contender.

HF Answer:

Who cares about Toronto's needs... we want Kulemin, period, so they'll have to ship him over regardless of their seeding in the standings.

The issue is that Toronto's going to have to move somebody before next season or they're gonna be screwed cap-wise, and posters believe they should move someone early. They feel that once their team is in cap hell, it's gonna be harder to get a good return because every GM will know they NEED to trade someone. Kulemin is an average winger making a good bit of money, and he's more expendable now with JVR breaking out.

Leafs fans want a trade now but when a team has a chance to make the playoffs they don't trade a decent player for picks and prospects. I don't see Kulemin traded unless they're getting a rental player in return (to fix their cap issues in the off-season).

Not a single chance we get Kuls IMO.

We lack top 6 forward and he's a decent, reliable 2nd line winger that could be available (but not for us imo).

this stuff i already know, i just don't get why it has to be him. hes really nothing special and i want a legit scoring threat. not decent. we have enough decent already. parise still needs to be correctly replaced.

We don't have the pieces to trade for a legit scoring threat at the moment. Kulemin is one of the best players you could reasonably get. He's nothing special but he's a legit 2nd line material, and we need that, a lot.

I still can't see how we could get him.

How much would Fleischman cost? Would u guys want him/do we have the assets?

I'm not sure. I'd prefer Weiss, but who knows? Tallon might try to squeeze whatever he can, and make this a rebuilding process. I've watched plenty of them this year. They aren't scoring consistently, their defense is REALLY bad. Their PP ain't so tough without Garisson. And their prospect Jacob Markstrom has been their best goalie this season after only 2 games played. Theodore is okay, and Clemmensen is back to looking like the practice squad goalie he was for us 7-8 years ago.

That team isn't really going places I don't think. I feel bad cause I would have liked to see them build on what they did last year.

A scoring threat isn't what we're going to obtain, if we do obtain anything.

Finding the right forwards to fill in certain lines like puzzle pieces is what's going to have to happen.
Putting 4 lines together that can run seamlessly, posses the puck well and create chances.

This team scores goals off the cycle - holding the zone, winning board battles and wearing down the opposition is how this team wins games.

Anyone who can help fulfill that mission is going to amplify this team, whether they strike fear into the hearts of HFers or not.

I think I'd be comfortable with giving up a second round pick for Weiss. Of course we would need more than that, but we aren't giving up the first this year so it won't kill us I don't think. The amount of picks we have though are getting lower.

I'd also be comfortable with giving them a prospect like Urbom or Burlon. One or the other. We have so many defensive prospects that there simply won't be enough room for all of them to get a chance to play for us at the NHL level.

I also have this feeling that to get anything of value we can't get much for Tallinder. I fear that we'd have to use Fayne to get anything of significance.
