That's an interesting factoid, why would they sniff around Yandle?
I would take him and his contract for Gaborik, but then what do you do with McD, Staal or DZ?
Just to follow this logic and dream a little, if you trade one of them for a stud RD, Blues are interested in a trade around Shattenkirk-Staal, the D becomes

Yandle - Shattenkirk
McD - Girardi
DZ - Stralman
Eminger

Not too shabby.

One can dream.

Too much turnover on this team. That's why we're struggling so badly this season. If we put Rick Nash on the team we had last year we'd be in 1st place by a land slide (presumably) right now. Instead we lost like 7 players from the squad last year and the team has struggled to find its identity or any chemistry.

Staal is an integral part of this team. If we can get Shattenkirk/Yandle without losing a key piece to the future you do it. It doesn't make sense losing Staal in place of Shattenkirk.

This team is not going to be a seller. They've always opted to make a move to bolster their weaknesses and go after the cup, they're not going to stop now. It may be dumb, but it's what's going to happen.

Love Staal, but if I can trade him for Shattenkirk + Perron, I would do in a heartbeat.

Next season
Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Perron - Richards- Callahan
Kreider - Miller - Fasth
Asham - Boyle - Powe

Yandle - Shattenkirk
McD - Girardi
DZ - McI
Stralman

Hank

Looks good to me.
Buy out Richards next summer, with Lindberg ready to take over and you are looking at the future.

Again, this is predicated on a speculative report that the Rangers were sniffing around Yandle for Gaborik.

There's no reason to be a seller... What assets would we move at the deadline that we couldn't instead trade at the draft? Also, with no 1st round pick, they shouldn't ever get to the point where they throw in the towel.

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Zucca-Miller/Newbury-Callahan
Pyatt/Powe-Boyle-Asham

What i'd have done. Maybe swap Richards and Stepan.

so we are all on the same page.

Torts is not going to tweak his system.

He's a professional coach that has a Stanley Cup Ring. He's a head-strong individual that believes in the system that helped get him that ring.

Sather is more likely going to have to tweak the coach.

Torts isn't changing jack squat about his approach to the game.

i mean yeah he might need to tweak it.. but i think he just wants his players to be engaged and be physical, a lot of our bottom 6 players arent that way.. however im not a big advocate of firing coaches.. i think players, being grown men need to be held accountable and buy into the system the coach is trying to convey.. in the work force we do what our bosses tell us to do or teachers tell us to do in school and dont deviate that.. i think the turn over int he roster hurt us a lot, and thats on slats for not getting some players that fit our style of play.. we have some of the same fwds.. and nash can fit into any kind of system it doesnt matter.. but guys like pyatt, halpern, powe dont play that kind of game... our system demands depth and physical play and its up to slats to build our team off of our coaches style.. so with our depth guys that i listed either gone or still here arent helping.. plus with richards sucking and gabs not being to effective most of the year.. i really dnt think drastic measure need to be taken outside of getting rid of the names i mentioned..

get a torres, ott type players etc.. reestablish that bottom six.. with either those guys or young players like fast etc so they can learn how we play..get gabs moving which he looks a lot better out there and we'll be a better team.. i dont panic this year.. but if this team plays like this next year then i panic and bigger moves may have to be done..

You don't honestly believe that the Blues would trade Shattenkirk and Perron for Staal, do you? That's a pipe dream!

Again, that wasn't the criteria you laid out.

yes it was, I asked for names of players that would increase our odds of advancing past the first round of the PO's.

If you blieve adding one or both Boyle and or Ott increases those odds, then we have watched two very different teams over the last 2 months.

This.

Season is done. The players think so too.

Elliot Friedman on the Hotstove last week said that the players on the Rangers squad 'don't think they can win with the current depth on the roster.'

Season's already done, no cup in New York this season. Failure.

Ship off all players 28+ except Lundqvist and Nash. Callahan, Gaborik, Girardi. All three will single handily replenish the prospect pool with the sellers market. Looking at a top prospect and first at the very least for each three.

Seasons done, therefore we must do the only rational thing and assure that the next 8 seasons are done too.

This 'Hartford Core' isn't gonna cut it, Dubi and AA already are gone. A culture change to give Hagelin, McDonagh and Stepan bigger roles on the team. The reigns should be passed to them since they are already the best players on the roster.

But your previous idea had them being shipped off with everyone else. Apparently, we are going to have a team consisting of Nash and Lundqvist.

You want to avoid a Hartford Corps yet you're creating the brand new CT Whale.

I don't see any of the three listed players (with the exception of Gaborik) to be effective players later in their career. Strike while the iron is hot and sell them while their values are at their highest, especially in a sellers market. Dan Girardi and Ryan Callahan are complimentary players who play a very aggressive grinding type game which I see slowing them down eventually. The movement of these two hopefully sparks a change in the dreaded shotblocking era of this franchise. Two players who are the very best at this league-wide.

And as a Rangers fan, I never want the team to pursue older high price FAs again. Build the team with trades and drafting.

I wouldn't go eight years, but I would be thinking three... The Rangers rode a Vezina goalie last season and blocked shot after shot after shot.... They found a way to win the games they're losing this season. No way last season was going to happen again... Nope, nada, no way. The Rangers STRUGGLED to make it to the ECF squeaking past the lowest two seeds, taking 14 games to do it...

The fix - ease the pressure on Hank and pot a few extra goals (Nash). Well as we've seen it's not the answer, well not at the moment anyway.

Our defense is spotty at best, especially with Staal out. Girard and McD can't skate 60min a game. Scoring ? lol, I'll leave that alone, pretty self explanatory. We need three defensemen and 5 -6 FWD's... Out should be Boyle, Powe, Pyatt, Asham... One of Richards or Gaborik should be gone, maybe both...

Stralman, Eminger, Hamerlik, Gilroy, (insert scrub name here). Consider trading one of either Staal or DZ.. If anyone isn't starting to see a pattern with Staal, well you should...Might want to make a move before it get's to late. Carolina anyone?

Roster needs a major overhaul with Nash and Callahan as focal points of the future, need players to compliment Nash, Callahan to lead.. Team needs skill, JAM doesn't put points on the board...

Seriously, our defense is borderline pathetic...If not for Hank our GAA would be around 5.... I'll mention names again, Stralman, Eminger, Hamerlik, Gilroy, (scrub name here).... Castaway's for a reason, but they've somehow ended up on our blueline... CRAZINESS... Team so lacks depth and experience, we're actually hoping two or three KIDS can help (Miller, Kreider)...frickin joke, rant complete :help:

3 more seasons would bring Hank to the ever lovely age of 34. He's a butterfly goalie. He won't last forever.

Girardi and Callahan are two leaders on this team, who are symbols of the culture that the team has been trying to build for years. They're worth more to this franchise than their market value. You want to destroy that culture in exchange for what exactly?

And as a Rangers fan, I never want the team to pursue older high price FAs again. Build the team with trades and drafting.

The Rangers have a huge advantage in the FA game because they're made of money and an original 6 team in one of the best cities in the world. It'd be shortsighted not to make use of that advantage. They have to be more careful with it, for sure, but I want the team to use their leverage with free agents when the timing is right.

It depends. You have Kipper who is going strong at age 36, and then you have Giggy who declined before 30. I suspect he was just over-valued however.

I'm not going to try to set an age for Henrik to retire until it happens. We should build teams not around Henrik but around what is the best move for the franchise at any given point.

And as a Rangers fan, I never want the team to pursue older high price FAs again. Build the team with trades and drafting.

The Rangers are a team that will (usually) put out a team that will not finish low enough to acquire a top pick. Acquiring 1st line forwards is pretty difficult when you constantly draft at >15 and packaging up your youth for a player of the caliber can usually come back to bite you.

Dipping into FA is a must (even sometimes for older players), but the problem with this organization is that they can not do it wisely.

And I'm not saying that Hank will be over the hill by 34 if we are going to set an arbitrary number for seasons needed to recover from a hypothetical blowup, but we have strong pieces now. We may not be able to compete just yet but I think we can fix this team without removing 98% of it off the surface of Manhattan.
