Agree about being sellers. This season just looks wasted. Get rid of the player we can easily replace for picks and prospects. Look to dump dead weight in the Summer. Build for next year, a full season.

That being said, there seems like no way the management would ever surrender, they will fight until the end to get into the postseason. They will trade a 3rd rounder for someone, just a matter of who's left. Ray Whitney probably.

I think if they had a lottery pick waiting around for them, they might be more inclined to let this season go and try and focus on next year. Hard to justify being sellers when the real payoff is that higher draft pick and it's a hard asset to recoup.

Recoup it at the draft, thats one idea. If we trade some players at the deadline we could gain multiple picks or players, trading up into the 20's not out of the question.

Either way, the delusion that this team gets in the playoffs and they have a chance is laughable at this moment. Torts can't mold this team into something they are not. These games down the stretch are going to be agonizing, remember I warned you;)

NYR don't regularly tank, and they won't a season after the 8th seed won a cup.

If we trade, it won't be to tank.

I been saying to be sellers for weeks for Richards to be bought out sooner not later and to move a bunch of cap and players and can the coach .
This is an ill conceived group and it was pretty obvious from jump street . If pro scouts are saying what every one here says a out Richards is true then the writings on the wall .
I know roster turnover scares some people here but look at
PITT
BOS
ANA
CHICAGO they are the first tier

Mon
Det
St Louis
LAK as the a little behind second tier .
We are 3rd tier bubble team and showing no cohesion or concept or identity . Rip if the band aid blow it up . Do like last season come in as picked to suck and under promise and over deliver with a bunch of youth and speed and add a little toughness and defensemen who can actually hit the net and walk the line on the PP .
The End

Players that need to be shown the door:

Boyle
Pyatt
Richards (buyout)

Players that have a good chance at the door:

Gaborik
Del Zotto

Our bottom 6 cannot be a plug-fest, or a retirement home. You need youth and hunger there.

Why? Rangers need to add players like DZ, not subtract.

Who would you put on the block at the deadline? I mean, outside of Gaborik, what useful assets to we really have to deal that we'd be willing to give up? Boyle? Pyatt? Zucc? Some depth defenders? I dunno. It sounds good in theory, and I agree with you that this team shouldn't be buyers, but selling is a tough call when there isn't much to sell.

Building for next year sounds good to me though. I'd like to see Tortorella get sent out as well.

I wouldn't be totally in favor, or totally against, but maybe inconsistency? The dude has great games, followed by **** games. Also, not exactly the PPQB we were all looking for. Sather offered him for ROR, didn't he?

He's 22 years old. Most 22 year old defenseman are inconsistent.

Like I said, I would be on the border about this. He did have a great season last year. But, does he seem to have great hockey IQ? I don't see it. However, DZ would definitely not be a priority to trade. In fact, I would trade Girardi in the hopes of upgrading at 2D 1st.

My list wasn't all for the deadline either.

No he didn't, Avs asked for him and Sather declined, not sure if he is said no before hanging up.

I like this option.

This is an interesting situation because I'd really be okay with what the Rangers decide either way. If they decide to sell, then I hope they go hard and do it the right way. Clear some dead weight AND the coaching staff. Bring in a fresh team both on the ice and behind the bench and start instituting next seasons system to work out the kinks now, come out of the gates flying with a new look. I'd only be okay with selling if Tortorella and Sullivan are part of that process. Also if this happens I want Richie bought out this off-season.

So, since I think the last thing that's going to happen THIS season is Tortorella being canned, I see the Rangers being buyers.

Get into the playoffs, and hope Henke gets hot.

Fast is not cleared to play in the NHL . He is allowed to play in the A and then must return for WC camp by mid April

yeah but a report says that he can opt out since he was signed to a nhl contract he was on loan to swed... his first priority is NYR, then swed..idk if hes ready but seems like rangers want him bad right now.. if we take him on then i am sure with him and MZA a Gaborik trade is possible..who knows whats going down..going to be interesting week..

"Fast is a candidate for the Swedish national team for the world championships, however, which would require him to opt out of that invitation in order to play in New York."

Fast is under NHL contract, but has been on loan to Sweden for the year. To forego his obligation overseas, Fast and or the Swedish National Team has to "confirm he has no intention of participating," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com via email. Fast's agent, Kurt Overhardt, doesn't foresee that as a problem.

"Their coach wants them to play a style that is not conducive to the players they have," said the longtime scout. "Torts is so intense and so intent in his ways. In the process, they have a lot of skill on that team and they dump and chase, they bang and crash. That's why they have trouble scoring. They don't utilize the skill people they have."

I'm completely on board with this thought process now. Torts really needs to tweak the system and open it up to utilize the types of players he has. It doesnt have to be drastic or reeking of desperation.

Problem is, you need to keep Gaborik then. If the Rangers are going to do away with this type of system, even if its next season - then a guy like Gaborik will be needed.

Is Slats and Torts on the same page? If Gaborik is being shopped then it seems like there isnt a willingness to change things up on Torts part... or is there?

Some internal discussions are definitely needed. They need to get a ****ing plan together because **** is starting to fall apart really fast.

Im thinking about this long term and I'm starting to believe its not a great idea to hastily trade Gaborik. Sure he and Richards have been putrid. Get through this year, and try again with a full camp. Switch some things up. 40 goal scorers dont grow on trees.

I think it's still possible to be a "seller" while keeping the team competitive. The deadline isn't just for buying and selling rentals. Mutually beneficial moves can be made. Deal some guys for some guys who you can build around, or deal players for tradeable assets and flip said assets for the guys you want.

The problem is that the current coaching staff wants a certain kind of lineup. Does that jive with the philosophy of the new coach? You won't know until you know who that coach is going to be. That move needs to be made first, IMO.

DZ?? are you kidding me no way they trade him, unless they are blown away by the package.. hes got a future here.. he took a sweetheart deal too.. for his production he way out does his contract.. why trade a 22yr old, thats turning into a solid all around dman.. unless we're getting crosby stamkos kane toews or the moon and stars i wouldnt trade him..

No it's not.

Name the one player that is available that can push to getting out of the first round?
The statement was:

"There's no player available that increases our odds of advancing past the first round, let alone make it to the Finals."

There are many players who fit that.

There are no players who can guarantee us getting to the second round, same with Pittsburgh, Boston, Montreal and every other team.

Nash
Callahan
Gaborik

Same position.

I asked for names.

I think the Rangers could get assets for:

Gaborik
Asham
Pyatt
Boyle
Maybe Powe as well

I would look to move them all. All of them are signed for 1 more season. None of them really fit this team all that well. The team needs an injection of youth with a touch of veteran leadership. Fasth, Lindberg, Miller, Kreider, Hrivik (when he comes back), Thomas, MZA and Haley. They have players who will push for spots. I see no reason why they can't leave 2-3 spots open for those players to grab next season easily. Go out and augment them with players like Tootoo or Prust who can drop the gloves and grind and stick up for their teammates to make the younger players feel more comfortable (see Montreal).

That would be my goal this deadline.

you cant tank when we're the 8th seed in the playoffs.. we still have a game in hand and i wouldnt bow out or give up.. we go on a streak we can crawl up the standings still to close to call..

but your right with the trade scene being the way it is.. id love to try and unload gabs for the right offer.. only for the right offer, if not keep him..

does anyone have any sources or links or heard any rumors of us trying to get yandle and what price would be..????

so we are all on the same page.

Torts is not going to tweak his system.

He's a professional coach that has a Stanley Cup Ring. He's a head-strong individual that believes in the system that helped get him that ring.

Sather is more likely going to have to tweak the coach.

Torts isn't changing jack squat about his approach to the game.
