Malkin can be a UFA at the end of next year. Will he leave? Probably not. But if they can't get him signed would they move him rather than lose him for nothing? Maybe.

Malkin's not going to leave for an extra million dollars a year over the chance to be a part of a dynasty with Crosby. Then again, you never know

I would love to have Jagr here. Guy is a horse. I have watched him a lot this year. He can still bring it. I know he has slowed down and isn't exactly world class on the defensive side of the game, however, he still has that great puck possession and so his shifts are spent more in the offensive zone than the defensive zone. He is as he always been very hard to knock off the puck. I would not mind him here. But his cost will probably be too high.

Imagine him on a line with Nash and Stepan? Geez..

Rangers should offer the moon if he hits FA and then we will watch as he deteriorates.. lol

I disagree. But I think the pens will find a way to lock him up. If I'm Malkin, my best years have been without Sidney. I'm thinking about trying to build a hall of fame career for myself, getting a lifetime payday at a prime UFA age, and getting out from Sidney's shadow. He's won a cup with Pitt, go be the big cheese somewhere.

If I'm him, I'd rather win a cup 2 or 3 times then win it once and be remembered as the big cheese somewhere.

Hello Malkin as a Ranger

ummmm and some wonder why the Rangers claimed Hamrlik on waivers and signed Zuccarello

that's a little crazy for a guy some Sharks fans wanted out for nothing

Starting to wonder what Gaborik really would fetch now. Penguins jacking the price on rentals big time, and Gaborik isn't even a rental...

The Rangers don't have enough talent in that we are going to benefit from a 3rd line grinder like Brendan Morrow.

With the prices being paid for guys like Morrow and Murray, we should seriously consider selling guys like Gaborik, Boyle and Stralman.

There's no player available that increases our odds of advancing past the first round, let alone make it to the Finals.

If I'm the Rangers, I stand pat, or sell.

We should NOT be buyers over the next 8-9 days.

Any chance Sather works his magic and gets us a Gaborik for Bobby Ryan swap?

Not a chance.

:pout:

One can wish right.

edit: Actually, now that I think about it, why can't that happen? Ryan has fallen out of favor in Ana, no longer plays on their top line, has a clear rift with general management. They get a perennial 40 goal scorer for the next year and a half. With Selanne and Koivu gone thats added experience next year. Ryan gets a fresh start somewhere else.

Would you trade Bobby Ryan at his sweetheart contract for Marian Gaborik? Really? C'mon, put yourself in their shoes.

No but I also don't know what sorcery Glen Sather wields! Would you have taken Scott Gomez's contract and given up your top prospect in return? How about taking on another aging overpaid player and given up Jaromir Jagr with many miles left?

Dude is a baller with trades.

Totally different circumstances. Jagr was bad in Washington and considered a malcontent.

its crazy we we're getting ripped apart on the main boards for gaborik trade appraisals..but yet morrow (rental) went for a top prospect and a pick and now murray (rental) went for 2 2nd rounders.. i mean come on now hahah.. gabs value is high..

i can see him being traded now, not bc i want him to be traded but only bc rangers are bringing in MZA and trying to bring in fast.. so they must think fast is ready.. and MZA they know his skill and know he can play lw and rw.. trade deadline is going to be interesting to say the least...

i would be ok to trade gabs+Stralman(if staal is close)/or.. a prospect not name mcIrath/thomas/fast for Clowe, Boyle Prospect and 1st..
boyle certainly isnt done and still a top 4 dman, he can mentor MDZ and show him true PPD is.. clowe brings toughness and then we have futures..

i would love to see what the asking price would be for yandle..

Just saying that he's opportunistic and knows how to work trades in his favor. Ryan was an example. From what I understand he's unhappy there too. Would they get equal value to him in the offseason? They'd get a 40 goal scorer now is what i'm saying.

Oh well. We have far more pressing needs than a top 6 winger. Need a crease clearing defender. Need a legit 3rd line winger/center with a lot of grit and passion.

Fast is not cleared to play in the NHL . He is allowed to play in the A and then must return for WC camp by mid April

Craig Custance on the Rangers

On Brad Richards

"He's not playing well," said an Eastern Conference scout. "His legs have left him."

On Dan Boyle. His skating has declined. Tons of miles.

"If he was what he was, he wouldn't be available," said the veteran scout.

He mentions the Rangers kicking the tires on Yandle but no serious talk of any deal. Have you seen his contract? :shakehead

Custance mentions Ian White an option. He is a rental.

The scout on Torts

"Their coach wants them to play a style that is not conducive to the players they have," said the longtime scout. "Torts is so intense and so intent in his ways. In the process, they have a lot of skill on that team and they dump and chase, they bang and crash. That's why they have trouble scoring. They don't utilize the skill people they have."

He spoke to a scout on Fasth. Skates like the wind.

Mark (Erie, PA)

Are the Rangers still looking at trading Marion Gaborik?

Katie Strang (3:33 PM)

Yes, they are definitely open to moving him. Not sure how much interest he has garnered, though. Despite coming off a 41-goal season, Gaborik is as streaky as they come.Could be a real gamble for a team hoping to add some speed and skill on the wing

Keith (NYC)

The Rangers are so frustrating. Can't seem to play a full 60 minutes and then don't have the guy to put one in when necessary. They no longer have an identity, they are no longer tough to play against. All they seem to do is played scared, try to defend, and then try to counter when the other team makes a mistake. There is little aggression, little confidence and little results. Not sure how we all bought into the hype. If things continue this way Nash would have been better served staying with CBJ.

Katie Strang (3:40 PM)

Understand the frustration, Keith. Their struggles this season have been mind-boggling, no doubt. I honestly think part of the problem is everyone compares them to last season, and they are a markedly different team now. Wonder if there has to be changes to team's style of play now that personnel has changed. Think the Rangers need to think more long-term this trade deadline and off-season

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/47486

Last year is last year. Last season was an aberration.

Agree about being sellers. This season just looks wasted. Get rid of the player we can easily replace for picks and prospects. Look to dump dead weight in the Summer. Build for next year, a full season.

That being said, there seems like no way the management would ever surrender, they will fight until the end to get into the postseason. They will trade a 3rd rounder for someone, just a matter of who's left. Ray Whitney probably.
