I think the issue is that the system is asking Gabby to hunt down pucks like Hagelin, and thats something Gabby isn't doing out there consistently enough. Its a very simple system, collapse, block shot, clear the puck, and have the speedster chase it down and create offense... Or grab it and move as a 5-Man unit up the ice, and that isn't suiting our mercurial sniper who likes to get lost in coverage.

Team is built from the back end out, and is missing Marc Staal, once he gets back, it eases matters out there, but the lack of depth, and push back needs to be addressed for said system to work. Players that don't buy in night in night out are likely to be moved. I think the Rangers are going to fill their roster up like Boston, Chicago, Washington, LA, and NJ. Which is why the hunt for the right handed D becomes imperative. Outside of your skilled wingers, all defensemen and checkers play their strong side, two righty centers, two lefty centers, and multiple wingers that can take draws. Methinks the Rangers are experimenting with it in the minors, but someone who watches closely can better tell you if that's the reason for their recent run.

That's why I changed my process to only if Gabs is dealt. If Jagr is brought in, you MAKE it so he's on the RW.

Well, had we been the team trading for Gaborik this season, I'd have said the same thing

Let's say, perfect world, Gaborik is traded for an RHD, a LW Prospect, and a draft pick.

Then, to Dallas goes Pyatt, a prospect like CT, MSC, McColgan, Bourque, Hrivik (you know, a mid-tier guy) and a third rounder for Jagr (at 41 and as a rental, he can't cost more than that, if he does, **** it).

Rangers can roll:

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Kreider/Zuccarello - Richards - Jagr/Callahan
Zuccarello/Kreider - Miller - Callahan/Jagr
Asham - Newbury/Boyle - Powe

That's a pretty balanced lineup, IMO. But in reality, that's not a TORTS lineup. Reality has us adding a 2nd/3rd line LW/C with "jam" at the deadline. Especially if Zucc's comes over.

It's the same kind of lineup we have now. Too many RW options and not enough consistent scoring in the top-six on the LW or down the middle. Tortorella loves what Callahan brings, so Jagr isn't going to come in and take his ice-time away. Especially when pairing Richards with Jagr would create puck-possession confusion. Two guys who need the puck on their stick and want to dictate the play.

This team needs help down the middle, on the left side, and on defense. That's where we should focus our efforts. I'm not crazy about rental players at this point either. This team is going to need a lot of things to go right if we're going deep into the playoffs. Rentals are for filling clear, smaller holes. We have big holes to fill.

it is not appropriate to explore.. thats been our MO of the rangers for the longest time.. trade talented youth for proven players and have it back fire... gabs+futures for kesler fine but NO WAY do i trade youth and proven players.. you have to build a team not trade every good young assets for an often injured talent.. we made our big trade by getting nash.. now start to rebuild bottom 6 and light a fire under the ass of richards and gabs..

But remembering I said it had to be HUGE coming back, what IF it is something like:

Stepan + Girardi + Gaborik + Biron
for
Kesler + Edler + two 1sts +

potentially
Kesler >> Stepan
Edler >> Girardi
2 firsts --- upgrade for us, vs. Van. best chance to extend for Cup (w/Biron, they deal Luongo for added help)

All of the 20 something year old Ranger fans with their Jagr fetish. He is 41 years old. Let's bring back Rucinsky,Straka and Prucha to reunite the 2005-06 Rangers. Jagr will always be a Penguin. The Rangers need Richards to wake up. Thankfully Richards only cost the Rangers $$$. Dolan has plenty of that. I remember there was one guy here proposing trading Roszival,White(for cap reasons),McDonagh and #1 pick for Richards. This was before McD was called up because the Rangers really didn't need him. Miller ended up being the pick. They really need to figure where they are going as an organization. Last season looks like an aberration. This season is the same as all of the other years since the 2nd lockout. Battling for 8th. Maybe finish 6th or 7th. Lose in the first round. The Garden makes a ton of money. They will raise ticket prices again. The players makes an enormous amount of money. The team still stinks. Everyone gets paid. Slats and Torts. They don't work for cheap. Team still stinks. Same old song every year. Its the same issues every year. Goal scoring. Size. Toughness.

With Staal, we have the defense. We have the goalie. We have sick RW depth with Nash Gabby and Cally. What we can use is a 3c upgrade and a bottom 6 guy. But as others have stated we will only go far if Richards and Gaborik start to get their **** together

And its been the same coach..

Love you as a poster RB, but sometimes you are just wrong.

22 (going on 23 year old) Rangers fan here, so you nailed it there. You're good at that.

Take a look at Jagr.

His 13 goals would lead the Rangers this year. Five of those on the PP (would tie him for first on the team). He's averaging 18 mins a night. He's not slowing down at all, as he is absolutely on FIRE in his last three games (6 points, 3 goals).

Last year in Philadelphia, he played with Giroux. Compared to last season's point production, Giroux's has fallen mightily. He's having a good year, but it's not what it was last season with Jags.

As Trxjw noted, by itself it's a bit of a redundant move, replacing Gaborik with Jagr. But as part of a greater good, IF AND ONLY IF GABORIK IS DEALT, it's a solid move I think.

That's a lot to digest. I understand you are frustrated with the team at this point, we all are.
Let me just point out that something has changed recently, the quality of the draft picks has improved immensely.

We need to keep stepan mcd hags as rfas let kreider develop and nash get more comfortable and stick with the plan. Henrik has about 4-5 great years left
Just keep building

WHY THE **** DO YOU KEEP DOING THIS ****!??!

It will NEVER happen! Biron has no trade value, and the Rangers would never trade Stepan, Girardi, and Gabby in THE SAME TRADE.

The amount of facepalm in this proposal is monumental. Lay off the Acid and NHL 13, it's ruining your brain.

This team has been building since the trade deadline of the 03-04 season.

"It's a process"

Should have been harvesting the crop for years now. Management continues to misread the team. After the emergence of Lundqvist in 05-06, the Rangers have always seemingly been "one piece away" instead of continuing to build.

Bring in Shanahan, doesn't work (even though I maintain that 06-07 team had the best shot of any at a Cup post-lockout)

Bring in Gomez and Drury, doesn't work.

Bring in Redden, doesn't work.

Bring in Gaborik, hasn't worked yet.

Bring in Richards, hasn't worked yet.

Bring in Nash, ________________.

That's not to say some nice pieces haven't been developed hese recent years, because they definitely have "harvested" some solid talent. I'd list the names, but we all know who they are.

I'm ranting a lot today, so I apologize for that  I think I'm making sense though.

Kessler has been injured like crazy lately.. gaborik is a main piece in a trade so is stepan and so is girardi. Putting all 3 of them in the same deal is horribad

Gaborik has done just fine here. Jury out on Nash but he seems like he will fit in just fine. But I get ur point

Can we please stop replying to him? Seriously. He hates Stepan for some reason, and had a love affair with Anisimov. Never takes the other teams' needs into account, or ours for that matter. Likes to stick his nose out and play "I told you so" when his boys, like JT Miller for example, have good games. These trade proposals make my eyes hurt.

Is smugness the only human emotion you can experience?

Jagr is 41 years old and producing. He will always be a Penguin? What does that even mean? He hasn't played there since us twenty somethings were in middle school, and he gets heartily booed every time he visits.

Obviously Richards improving his play will greatly help this team's chances. There are many ways to skin a cat, though.

Admittedly, I do have a man crush on Jagr as a younger fan. He was instrumental in restoring my faith in this team during my childhood.

But I know when to remove my rose colored glasses because Jagr would instantly help this team on offense. He may be old but his effectiveness has not wavered.

If you don't think Jagr could help this team I don't know what to tell you. He's 41 but produces so much more than most players 10+ years younger than him. The guy is a machine and while his skating might not be the way it once was, his shot sure is. He would improve this PP and he's been a leader here once before.

Watching him play in Dallas has reassured me that he would help this team greatly. And guess what? When he shoots the puck, it goes into the net. Last I checked we could use a guy like that.

Is this what we are headed towards if Gaborik is traded to the Sharks and Staal is healthy?

Kreider - Richards - Nash
Hagelin - Stepan - Callahan
Miller - Sharks Center - Zuccarello
Asham - Boyle - Powe

extras: Pyatt, Fast, Newbury

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Boyle
Del Zotto - Stralman

extras: Eminger, Hamrlik, Gilroy

And what gives you the idea Gaborik is getting traded to the Sharks (especially without Boyle coming back)?

What would Jagr cost though? Morrow is not as valuable as he is per this season and still fetched a good prospect.

Whose spot is Jagr taking on the right side? Nash? Nope. Callahan? If Gaborik can't bump Cally out Torts' favor for a top-six spot, Jagr sure as hell isn't going to do it. Where does he play on the PP? Nash has his spot on the #1 unit, and even if you give him that spot on the #2, you're essentially cutting his PP time in half, and nearly 1/2 of his current points have come on the PP.

Adding Jagr to this team is just another move that doesn't address the real problem. Adding scoring is great, but adding scoring that doesn't fit the team is a waste of assets.

Boyle is on my D chart

and i said IF he is traded to the Sharks
My attention to detail is amazing.

But still, I don't see the Sharks wanting Gaborik. Mostly because I proposed a trade offer and the Shark fans threw stuff at me. I've been pumping a three way trade where Gaborik goes to the Kings and Dan Boyle and Justin Williams go to the Rangers, though.
