I expect Gaborik to most likely be dealt at the draft. The two teams that most interest me in being a trade partner are 1) Nashville, as I'd love to get either Blum or Ellis, plus a #1, (and maybe Austin Watson, please?), or 2) Winnipeg, with Burmistrov and a #1 coming back the other way.

Zipay saying tbay following nyr lately. No idea who

Seeing they have a dire need for a goaltender... and I don't mean Biron. I don't think that'll happen; though the Rangers would get a lot for him. Problem...they'd need a goalie coming back; not necessarily from Tampa Bay, but would have to acquire one from somewhere. Biron playing the rest of the season would be hard to watch.

If Lundqvist has thoughts of leaving as a free agent, the Rangers need to try to get something in return for him. Must prepare for the future.

Why does everyone seem to want old as dirt players all the time?

MSL is still an incredible hockey player. It's just that this ridiculous Gaborik for St. Louis trade concept makes 0 sense.

We all know that there is a high probability that as soon as a older player dons a NY Rangers jersey they tend to go into early retirement mode. I wonder if.. and this is pure speculation, if the way they are catered to by upper management makes them kick up their feet and go on vacation.

ehh, it's been a long weekend..bare with me

I'd take Purcell and Thompson for Gaborik.

Sadly Thompson just signed an extension so I doubt they're moving him. He'd be great for us though. And Purcell would finally give us that RH LWer.

Makes too much sense to happen.

only glen sather can pull off a st louis for gabby trade, this is the same man who dumped gomez and gained mcd

Gaborik scored 41 goals last year and he's been playing well lately. You can argue against that statement as much as you want, but he's been playing great on both sides of the puck. He just can't score. Just like Higgins when we had him. He's snakebitten and a change of scenery will definitely help him whether that entails changing the system by firing Torts or trading him. I don't think trading Gaborik within the conference for a bottom-six player and a winger that benefits greatly from playing with the best goal scorer in the game is the wisest decision.

However, I do think a trade is necessary if we want to win now. He can't score, but no one on the team is scoring. I believe he's one of the more valuable pieces of the team, and subtracting him can benefit the team only if we get depth back. There are better suitors for Gaborik such as Nashville, Winnipeg, Detroit, and somewhat St. Louis that can offer quality depth on defense and offense along with futures to bolster the farm.

That's my two cents. I agree with trading Gaborik now, but only if we get what we need to win now. Purcell and Thompson aren't going to change anything.

Knowing our luck, we'll probably end up Lecavalier and his monster salary

All jokes aside, It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the following happen:

1. Tampa amnesty buyout of Lecavalier
2. Signs with Rangers

Not saying I want it to happen at all (I don't), but it seems like a typical move

And what about redden, drury, holik, lindros, jessiman(when could've had Parise), Montoya, etc

I don't know of any GM with his record that still has a job. Nice to have Dolan as your buddy.

In Sather's defense (and you wont find me defending him often), all those acquisitions were via the free agency or drafting -- besides Lindros, which I dont think was a disaster trade or anything.

Sather's trading is literally the only thing hes done in his 13 years here that I could give him anything approaching credit.

First off, I'm entertaining trade ideas bases around Gaborik because I think he goes before Torts does, my opinion.

Secondly, I think Purcell and Thompson would be great here. Purcell wouldn't benefit from playing with Nash, Richards, or Stepan? Definitely more so than Hagelin, Boyle, or anyone else on the roster would/has. Purcell is a solid scorer.

And Thompson really isn't just another "bottom six guy." He's a sparkplug that's pretty damn solid on faceoffs. He's also real physical and never backs down. He could possibly have a Prust-like effect like when we received him from Calgary. Pruster wasn't just another "bottom sixer."

I think if we move Gaborik this is the type of return we should expect, and I think it's a good one that could help the team now. His value isn't that high, and we need help now. Hank's not getting younger, and our cap situation is only going to get tighter. Even if a team does offer a solid prospect or two, I'd still take this hypothetical trade. We got prospects (Fasth, Lindberg, Miller, and heck even Kreider still). We need NHLers.

And you said it yourself. I don't give a **** about how well Gaborik's playing. He's not a kid or prospect, or even a Higgins-level player. He's a 7.5 mil a year player who's paid to score goals. When he's not scoring he's not playing well. He's not a Nash that brings other positives to the ice. He scores goals, and that's about it.
