And what about redden, drury, holik, lindros, jessiman(when could've had Parise), Montoya, etc

I don't know of any GM with his record that still has a job. Nice to have Dolan as your buddy.

Jessiman was actually Tom Renney's call...

If the Rangers and Tampa are to make a deal then Malone is coming back 110% guaranteed and Salo might come back as well (righty shooting D). It makes sense for the Rangers needs and also for TBL for cap reasons.

That being said, I'd like to expand this hypothetical trade and try to include one of Boyle/Asham/Pyatt and a 3rd for either Namestenkov, Koekkoek, or Vasilevsky.

So it would go something like;

To TBL; Gaborik, Pyatt, + one of the thirds
To NYR: Malone, Salo, prospect.

TBL get the scorer they need because they're gonna buy out Vinny L and they move two contracts who aren't part of their future.

Rangers get a righty shooting DMan, an injured yet gritty LWer who might be useful next year, and a prospect like a Vasilevsky who can be the heir apparent to Henrik or Namenstenkvov, etc.

It's crazy and I know Malone is captain injury and old but thoughts?

Why do we need him as GM then? Tom Renney..another great Slats hire..or was that Don Mloney's call?..oh, how about Bryan Trottier?..who's call was that? Slats has done nothing here except collect about $5 mio a year.

my thoughts continue to be the same, the Rangers are not trading Gaborik unless it makes the team better. this doesnt, not by a long shot.

In Sather's defense (and you wont find me defending him often), all those acquisitions were via the free agency or drafting -- besides Lindros, which I dont think was a disaster trade or anything.

Sather's trading is literally the only thing hes done in his 13 years here that I could give him anything approaching credit.

Ok but drafting, hiring coaches and signing FAs are significant parts of a GM job description? No? Why this guy still has a job with a $5+ mio salary is beyond me. I know..it's Dolan.

Not feeling Malone.

Only realistic guys I want from Tampa are Purcell, Thompson, Connolly (doubtful at best), and Bergeron.

I'm all for packaging Pyatt with Gabby though.

Why does Tampa want Gabby?

FWIW I remember reading that Clark was really high on Koekkoek who is a Tampa prospect.

They don't. It's just a baseless pipe dream that I've seen suggested seriously like twice. Somehow that's still 3 too many times.

My guess is that Tampa would want Gabby to replace Vinny L in a top 6 role. That dude is getting bought out and might happen this summer not next.

Salo would help and I like Koekkoek who was a teammate of Yogan's but the guy has been very injury prone the last two years. He does play that gritty game that Gordie likes.

I'm more interested in Vasilevsky personally to get a true goalie prospect.

Malone would have to be a throw in. I think he can still be useful and work in this system but he's hurt again and not gonna help until next year. He's the kind of vet who you play with two kids like a Fasth and Lindberg and can be the "bad cop" on that line.

I think he could really help Yogan develop as well.

Just a thought of course.

The fact that it's been reported Tampa's been following us doesn't help.

I also happen to think Tampa has some good (available) pieces that can help right away, as opposed to most of the other teams that have been thrown around.

I really don't know why Tampa would want to add ANOTHER offensive player.

Malone hurt his should so no idea. They said he might need surgery.

Tampa would want an offensive player to keep their "Big 3" thing going. Vinny L is being bought out and I don't know if Connolly is ready for prime time yet. Conacher as a #3 option? Naw.

Just all assumptions of course plus Gabby has speed which is something the Bolts always seem to like.

This will be my one and only blockbuster trade proposal... possibly ever.

Gaborik, Boyle, 2nd (2014), one of Thomas/Fast/Lindberg/Hrivik

for

Vanek, Ott

I don't get it because Tampa has the 2nd best offense in the league while their goal tending sucks and D isn't too great either.

im guessing its Benoit Pouliot from the Bolts... he seems like a Sather type player.. replacement for Boyle maybe.. brings more offense on the bottom 2 lines.. only 26 and as Joe says he is long and rangy.

he would bring more grit on this team... Pouliot and BJ Crombeen 4th 2013 for Boyle Pyatt and 3rd (FLA)???

I'd make that trade for Vanek alone. He's a consistent, elite goal scorer, and he's a RH LW.

I hope the Rangers either get him through trade of FA, he's been something this team has lacked for years.

Has anybody watched Jerome Gauthier-Leduc play? He is a prospect on the Sabres, this is his scouting report
Birthday: 1992-07-30
Position: D Shoots: Right

Height: 6-2 Weight: 194 lbs.
Acquired:
3rd round (68th Overall), 2010

Strong on his skates with excellent vision, Gauthier-Leduc has the ability to quarterback an NHL powerplay one day. He has excellent vision in the offensive zone and has excellent puck-moving and shooting ability. However, the knock against Gauthier-Leduc is his lack of size, and some scouts are still not completely sold on Gauthier-Leduc’s potential.

Slater Koekkoek is damaged goods. He missed most of 11-12 with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Had the surgery. The player suffered the same injury to the same shoulder again in January. Out another 4-6 months.

Pat Verbeek scouts for TB. There is no match between the two teams. Malone is another guy with injury issues.

The Vanek proposal is interesting but you can't include either Fasth or Lindberg. You absolutely have to hold onto those two;

If Fasth reaches his full potential, he has the chance to be the best homegrown offensive prospect this team has had in nearly 20 years.

The organization also doesn't have much center depth outside of Lindberg (other two guys are still in college and a long ways away) who has proven he can do it all in the SEL and he may become more than just a Swedish Blair Betts.

Plus they're young and on entry level deals.

Vanek is a very good player but like Gaborik he's streaky and another guy who seems to get banged up and miss time every year.

If Koekkoek has shoulder problems then go for either Vasilevsky or Namestinkvov. Bur yeah, doubtful Gaborik to Tampa would in fact happen.

No offense but that is terrible

No offense but that is terrible

None taken, at least you didn't attack me ;)

It's not based on what I'd do, it's based on what they can get for Gabby and might have to take back in a realistic market.

I'd much rather trade him to Detroit with one of Tatar/Nyquvist/Jurco coming back or to Nashville for Wilson +.

With the cap coming down if the Rangers do find a taker for Gabby, they're going to have to take back some kind of underachieving contract if they get prospects or picks.
