I heard Bennett lives in T.O in the off season. No brainer IMO if he's willing to come here for same money Tavares wants. This core is stale as it is.


The article also questions it because JT is not going anywhere else. They need to get the AAV down somehow so they can upgrade the bottom 6. Clearly being top heavy with these 5 does not work.

I don't see why you don't shoot for both. Give Tavares an extra year to bring the cap down into the $6.5 million range, extend Knies on a bridge deal, then sign Bennett as an FA and clean up your roster around the edges, featuring a couple extra ELCs.

Maybe the injury thing brings the price down? I think he's the type of guy Tre and Berube would like

Agreed I would empty the cupboards even if only for one glorious run

At the end of the day if they run the core back and lose early in the playoffs again, the serious fans don't need to take the team seriously anymore.

A lot of serious fans will continue to support the team regardless. Perhaps it is the less than serious fans who won't be taken as seriously.

There's some risk but if we're not going to raid the farm in a big way it may be one of the better options

He would only be someone that you want to LTIR until the playoffs for a very low price. Getting someone that won't help you until about a few weeks before the playoffs start is just not good. He doesn't know the team, he will be some form of rusty and will need to catch up. He could be good but the risk is not good.
