Has the idea of Mike Green floated around?

Ideally, I would prefer to keep Girardi, Green and Stralman on the right side, but I think Stralman will unfortunately get traded with the trade for Klein.

The Caps could use a RWer with Brouwer, Wilson and Ward struggling, perhaps Callahan+ might intrigue them?

what post has the most up to date report on what sather plans on doing with girardi and callahan and what their demands are?

I'm with you guys obviously that is best case. The Rangers just can't be caught with their pants down again like they were when Kreider wasn't ready in the short season. Maybe there is a UFA vet they can sign cheap to come in and pot 40-50 points. I don't know.

More like 30-40. Brassard will put up 40-50. I don't know what Dave Bolland is looking at on the UFA market... but he again is the same problem I have with Stastny or Roy. Skating. Our centers are slow.

The Rangers still lack another 2A/1B center to go along with Stepan. Richards' contract is going to look ghastly in two years. You need to buy him out. Replacing his cap hit with Stastny isn't ideal, but the skill sets are rather similar with Stastny being five years younger. We don't have the assets to land one in a trade without giving something up that's really going to hurt unless Glen pulls a miracle trade of McDonagh like proportions.

Also, let's just say that I disagree vehemently with Stralman being better than Klein, and I love Stralman.

I'm not sure that's an almost certainty. He has 8 points in 51 NHL games so far.

Meh... players progress. His improvement on offense in the AHL is encouraging. And we can't ignore the fact that there really was no reason for him to be in the NHL last season for as long as he was aside from poor planning on the part of the front office. Makes his numbers look worse. Yes, I know he basically has the same exact stats this year... but if this were his first extended call up, then the perception changes.

Mike Green has been garbage all year and is very expensive. No thanks.

Players progress, but not enough that I would call a player going from .15 Pts/GP to top-9 production in a year a certainty.

IMO, now is the perfect time to acquire him at a low value.

1. He's signed for one more year at 6mil after this one.

2. The need from offense from the defensemen group

3. He's tied for 15th in ES points and 15th in PP points. That's still pretty good, both would be tops on the Rangers for defenders.

Something like Callahan and McIlrath for Wilson and Green.

An almost certainty. I don't think that adding 8 points over another 53 game span (for a total of 16) is an unreasonable expectation. 25 points over 82 is the very low end for a 3rd line C... But it'd still 3rd line production.

Don't think his value is quite that low.

I think both are very important players in their past and today.

I think the problem is youre going to pay them for what they did, when neither is likely to keep it up.

But, i'd say Girardi is far less likely to become an albatross than Cally is.

You can almost guarantee Cally is going to be an average 3rd liner within 3-4 years

I pretty much agree with you. No way Girardi is a top pairing defensemen in 5 years, but will be a serviceable 5 or 6.

If Cally signs a7 year deal I don't think he finished it. The way Cally is going with his injuries he will be lucky to play to his 35th birthday.

At this point yes to trading Cally, & yes to trading Girardi for the right package.

30 points in 50 games out of a defenseman is garbage? You can't be serious?

He's exactly what we need. Big, RHD shot defenseman for the PP and makes breakout passes that put MDZ to shame

Uh huh. You clearly haven't watched him this season.

He gives away the puck literally every shift, doesn't engage physically, and his horribad defense doesn't make up for his offense.

Now, all of his team sans Ovi and Backstrom have been bad, but if he didn't turn the puck over every other shift he plays, I'd give him a break.

If we could give up like a 2nd for him I'd do it. He's not worth anything of real value to me, currently.

Most offensive defenseman turn the puck over. Subban and Karlsson turn the puck over quite a bit as well. It tends to happen when you actually try and make a play with the puck instead of pulling a Girardi and going high and hard off the glass right to the other team. Green is going to put up 50+ points easily this year. More than most of our forwards most likely.

Go propose Green for a 2nd on the main board and lemme know what Caps fans say :sarcasm:

Obviously a 2nd isn't going to get it done. It's more me not being willing to give up value for him.

He's also 29, on a very expensive contract, and to compare him to Subban or Karlsson is absolutely insulting. Subban's defensive game absolutely destroys Greens, and Karlsson flat out dominates every other shift he's on. Green WISHES he could play like them.

Take him off Washington's top ranked PP feeding Ovechkin one timers, and watch him fall to 20 points, less than McDonagh. He's got a great shot, but that's all that's going right for him this year.
