Before careful of Zipay. In a chat last week or on twitter,he suggested the Rangers re-signing Richards after amnestying him. He thought the Gaborik stuff was nonsense when the Rangers had already discussed trading Gaborik with other teams.

Ok, then we must be reading different threads.
The Nashville trade was agreed to by more than 1 fan.
The Ottawa trade was offered by one of their mods.
There was a disagreement about the pick, they wanted it to be a 2nd not a first, I asked them to keep the pick and include Ceci, they refused, so it is Zibby, Greening and a 2nd rd pick as agreed to by more than 1 sens fan. I am sure there are many who disagreed, but it was an open thread and I did not read a lot of pushback on either trade.

After the fact, when the rumors of Gaborik being available and the tons of Gaborik for sale threads popping out that I stared reading about Gaborik is not worth the packages offered.

Edit: I believe Zenith was on that discussion as well.

Search "greening" in all of the Gabby threads.
Search "hornqvist" in all of the Gabby threads.

There wasn't agreement.

If we could work out some sort of deal to get Brassard and Foligno out from Columbus, I'd be all over that.

Boyle, Pyatt, Gilroy, St. Croix

for

Brassard, Foligno

Need a 3rd line. This team lacks that. Top players are great, but we knew going into the season that the 3rd line would hurt due to losing Dubi and Anisimov. Kreider has not produced or been the player we thought he could be. Boyle has severely been terrible. Pyatt has not been a 3rd line player, more of a tweener between 3rd and 4th. Powe, Asham, and Halpern are fine for depth, but should be on the 4th line. Same for Haley.

Last season the team has depth. Tons of bottom 6 players that were essentially 3rd liners. It is what the team is missing. Look at the stats. Nobody beyond the top 6 is producing. Tough to rely on the top guys to score all the goals.

Can Fasth and Lindberg come over and play 3rd line at this point? Is MZA a viable 3rd line option or allow someone to move down to a lower line?

Boston won the cup making two moves at the deadline: Chis Kelly and Rich Peverley. 3rd line players. They traded for Horton in the same offseason. Both were good 3rd liners for them and added depth to a team lacking it. We need to find a couple vets that can play on the 3rd line and produce enough to spell the top guys.

i assume thats still not allowed right?

isnt it 10 teams he won't go to? I'm confused.

yeah you have it right...friedman said it wrong on HNIC and then corrected it on twitter

Got something backwards in Hotstove: Gaborik has 10 teams he cannot be traded to. I said it backwards because I am an idiot.

Let's not forget Zipay's infamous report that Brad Stuart had been traded to the Rangers last trade deadline. :p:

As much as Sather is a wizard, I hope we are all resigned to the fact that the return for Gaborik will probably not be what we expect or want it to be. With any luck I am wrong and Sather gets someone to overpay.

"Sather is a wizard??" Excuse me while I fall on the floor dying of laughter!! You must have hit the pubs early for Saint Paddy's day dude.

The Rangers have liked Brassard since his draft year. He's young enough that he could develop with the younger core, and, to me, would signal that the Rangers are likely to amnesty Richards...meaning the Rangers are pleased with Stepan's development, and consider him a #1, while Brassard slides into the 2nd line center spot.

Backstrom is on the decline? I'll take my chances with a declining Backstrom...best player on the Caps right now.

I'd be satisfied with a Fisher/Blum/#1 pick for Gaborik and a 3rd.

as terrible as richards has been thats a pretty big downgrade to brassard...as a 3c depth guy maybe, as a 2C not a big fan.

gotta think if we amensty buyout richards, this summer the #1 target to replace him would be stephen weiss as a ufa. and if you wait to buy him out next summer the 2014 ufa class is a lot stronger (granted most of those guys will be resigned before then). but a guy like stastny could be available

lol every trade the initial reaction to any move sather makes is that he's a wizard and robbed the other team...then 6 months later we are hearing talking about how the guy he acquired in that wizard move blows and we should trade them for a 5th round pick

You rarely win a trade when you trade a star for some role players and picks.

The Rangers are in win-now mode.

If I'm trading Gaborik, I'm trading him for a guy who can score goals who is available but needs a change as well.

Pominville, Iginla, Marleau etc.

For the record, i dont advocate trading Gaborik at all. He's still a star who'se recovering from a really tough injury. He's been the team's MVP in two of his three seasons.

I have no problem saying Boyle sucks. But Trading Gaborik for scrubs and picks accomplishes nothing for the team and pretty much gives this season (which is far from over) a death sentence.

Are you sure you're not drunk? How was it we got McDonagh again? And Nash? And (when they were actually useful) Gaborik and Richards? Must have been the allure of playing so close to New Jersey.

You are killing me, in order to fit Olsen, we may have to trade Staal?

Come on man. I'd rather go get somebody else, simpler.
We just disagree on this one.

The issue is not what is simpler.
Don't be afraid to do the hard work.

Best return for Boyle period.
If that is Olsen +, and we flip him, or keep him, and flip somebody else, which ever the follow up is, fine.

WE MUST INCREASE TOTAL TALENT

stop ignoring this reality and telling me to come on, man,

On this particular subject --- whether or not we need to maximize talent as a priority in our development strategy --- this is something you have to admit, and you have to yield to. Give it up.

If you don't want Boyle for Olsen, find me the better option.
I don't care if it's one step or multiple.

Also, YEAH, I brought up moving Staal. Whether it is now, or in 2-3 years at the last minute when return is minimal, at some point that has to be done unless there is an alternate way to have diminishing cap for more key guys.

We also need to quit with the merry go round #6 dman (Eminger, Hamr, Gilroy, etc). We have 4 very good defensemen, a good #5 in Stralman, but we need a sure #6, not a position where we have to rotate.

We need a LW, 6th D and 3C.

hopefully mcilarth becomes the guy that fills that spot for good

That makes more sense. What do you have in mind? and please keep it short, tough to read an essay when you have alcohol in your system.

1. It is ok to discuss something around Skjei for Clendenning
2. It is ok to consider if, having first made a determination that basically Boyle for Olsen + pick is your max return, then to view if it is useful for flexibility purposes to be included in a larger deal.

I posted something with detail, so the complexities of the deal were adequately addressed.
I suggest you read it.
It appears we need an expansive deal to get something balanced with all the parts both sides want and can live with.

People want simple solutions to complex problems. This is usually fantasy.
The world usually requires complex solutions to actually address complex problems.

Do the homework, come to a consensus which is thorough.
THEN, knowing we have the figured out what is the best option, that is the one we can get behind (until a new better option develops).

THEN have that drink. I'll buy the first round.

But put up the homework to do a fully informed critique.
Or don't be informed, and by extension the legit basis to be critical.

Now tht Jarmo has taken over the reigns in Columbus I wonder how familiar he is with either Fast or Lindbergh? I think he GM a Finnish club but im sure he got a look at these two. Rangers scouting the Jackets recently.

Kesler is not even playing. He broke his foot. That guy is damaged goods. He isn't close to the player he was before getting hurt in the 2011 playoffs.

Not in dispute at all.
Only ? is does this mean he can/should be acquired cheaply now as is for a lot less on the hope he returns to form?

Is this a worthwhile opportunity?

This is your "death sentence". Always look to the best deal. Actively. Always.

Besides, this team is too weak, it can't stand pat.

Kreider has 5 goals in 7 games since being sent back to CT. I think its about time to bring him back up.
