As much as Sather is a wizard, I hope we are all resigned to the fact that the return for Gaborik will probably not be what we expect or want it to be. With any luck I am wrong and Sather gets someone to overpay.

Gaborik has 10 teams he can't be traded to. The Rangers don't want to retain any salary. Taking back a player with a decent cap hit would alleviate the salary concerns but it doesn't appear the Rangers are looking at that. We know VAN is not one of the teams on the list. Kassian had to be in deal. The Rangers like his potential and contract. $870,000 cap number for next season. He is not arb eligible in 14-15. Rangers sign him to a 2 year bridge contract. They would get him for the next 3 years at a good price. No fit with VAN.

I think that type of player is bang-on for the Rangers plans moving forward. Physicsl guy, potential top 6 guy. Makes a massive difference in today's NHL, like it did in the 70s particularly with the NY Ramgers.

How can you play a physical grinding style of you don't have a big bodied forward that will Impose his will on other teams better players. Rangers clearly don't want a tough guy to play 5 mins a night. Evidenced by the numerous scrapers that were either waived or available for peanuts. Evidenced by the Rupp trade, a trade that sent the only legit tough guy packing for a PK grinder.

I think the Rangers have also scouted Tor or vice-versa Maybe they are looking at Tyler Biggs? Is Tyler Biggs available? 1st and Bigs, maybe Komisarek for salary dump for Gabby and a 3rd?

Again, I doubt he is traded within the conference. NYR have limited leverage, which is why a trade may not be the best move.

I see what you are saying, normally it would be unlikely to trade within conference. But... What do we have, 16 days to the deadline with 9 games from now until then. If the Rangers don't go on a good win streak too you have to think as seller rather than buyers they will be open to the highest bidders. If that is an eastern conf team I would bet it drastically changes things

I don't think we'll sell if we're anywhere within reach of the playoffs. Sather might go for a desperation coaching change to turn things around, like he did with Renney, but I don't think we'll go firesale.

Those airline sandwiches can be damn good. If you ever fly Delta, get the grilled chicken sandwich with Russian on a pretzel roll. **** be delicious.

This thread title actually gives Gaborik more value.

Yeah I mean look, ultimately the Rangers need two bottom six forwards, and a no 6 that can help the pp. They would like a top 4 offensive RHD, and premium bottom six players that add toughness.

Is the gap between that the guy that has the 6th most goals in the NHL since he signed here? No, not in my opinion. Let's keep in mind next year is a walk year and he will be firing full force.

See that's the thing. When Renney went I think Sather gave him every opportunity to turn it. I think they lost 10 out of 11 games or something along those lines. I can't see this team losing that many games. Plus...Who's available as a head coach who would be better than Torts? Maybe Lindy? I just don't think Torts is on the hot seat yet despite the fail of this team so far.

torts isn't on the hot seat at all.. not many coaches out there that are better.. he knows what hes doing.. the players need to elevate their game.. plus sather will make trades before the coach is fired..gabs i think is far fetched to get traded at deadline.. off season for sure.. sather will pick up a few pieces bottom six guys, a vet or 2 and well ride this season out and see where it goes.. this week is huge if we go on a streak we'll make it out a live.. but if we struggle, we're deff in trouble.. we're 3 points out of 8th with 1-2 games in hand of most teams, which helps us.. this week makes or breaks us.. 4-5 games..

You can't worry about trading Gaborik in the new NHL realignment conference set up. Make the best deal. The Rangers don't trade with the Devils and Islanders. They have made trades with Philly,Pittsburgh and Washington. Being afraid to trade with the other 13 teams really limits the options.

I don''t know how it can happen, but somehow the Rangers need to get Pyatt-Boyle/Halpern -Boyle/Powe as the 4th line. In order for that to happen though we need to bring in a 2nd line LW because the only LW we have worth a damn is Hagelin.

If the Rangers do trade Gabby to Vancouver they'd have to take back a big contract like Jason Garrison or David Booth.

Washington is another candidate but once again, either Green is Backstrom would have to come back and both are on the decline. I wouldn't mind that so much if one of Johannsen/Orlov/Forsberg and maybe even Chimeria could come back in the deal.

Best option for restocking comes with the Wings if they'd be interested. Take your pick of Tatar/Ferraro/Nyquvist/Jurco/Frk. I'd even be willing to take back Bertuzzi or Samuelson.

Once again, I'm not supporting the idea of trading Gabby just to trade him, but if they can restock the forwards in the system (once Fasth/Lindberg/St. Croix turn pro the only one left with any real offensive potential is Nieves and he's 2-3 years away) then it might be worth exploring.

I'm willing to take back Dubi too if CLB would do Boyle/Asham one of the 3rds for Dubi. They'd save 1.5 million in cap and for us Dubi+Miller+Pyatt>Boyle+Miller+Pyatt.

Feel free to yell at me

Dude...if Gaborik gets us Niklas Backstrom, I pack Gabby's bags, buy the airplane tickets, drive Gabs to the airport, and carry his Christmas trees to his home in Washington every single year.

Wonder if a Gaborik pls MDZ move could land Benn plus salary dump in Dallas? I'm sure the Stars aren't looking to move Benn but if the return was of significance?

LOL...just "stuff" I'm throwing to a wall. I know Backstrom isn't playing like he used to, and has had injury problems and has a very long contract.

Most likely Washington wants to dump Green or someone else making a lot of cash. Laich?

Rangers will have to take back some cap hit or years if a Gabby trade were to go down.

Also, I fully expect Ovi to be traded in the next 12-24 months, I'm not saying it will be here but that team is going to be nuked soon.
