If they give him an extension (a new multi-year contract that extends in to the future) before the entry draft (or June 25, 2023), does that new contract kick in right away with the new salary versus having to pay the QO amount? I'm fuzzy on this part of the CBA.
from my understanding the new contract will kick in right away

we could do a handshake agreement of giving him the QO and then the extension but that is risky for both sides

I think JBD and Brannstom would make a nice 3rd pair.
Tkachuk-Stützle-Giroux
Debrincat-Norris-Batherson
TBD-Pinto-Joseph
Motte-Kastelic-TBD

Sanderson-Zub
Chabot-TBD
Brannstrom-Bernard-Docker

TBD
Forsberg

I think the defender and goalie TBD will be brought in externally, and the forward TBDs internally.

Lots of changes I think we need a couple more but its probably unrealistic .

New GM. New coaches. Identify the core and go from there.
Chabot has been our best player .. not this year. But his play this year isn't worth the money.
DeBrincat may price himself out of trying to beef up other positions
Joseph is a question mark for me as well. I want to see improved play ... lots of fly bys and bobbles with him this year
Brannstrom and JBD will be affordable. We know what Brannstrom is. JBD needs to prove he has that spot

I really don't get the point of trading Motte. Look at our putrid bottom six and tell me we're not missing him.

He's a good penalty killer/bottom six player making barely over a million. Should be easy to resign, and would only get us what, a 3rd at best?

Keep him.

Offer him a contract if he doesn’t sign, he likely won’t before July 1, so move him.

I mean under no circumstances should Dorion be allowed to make any moves other than selling UFAs, and Joseph.
He’s a steward at this point, and has no business making further adds to this roster, committing further salary, wasting picks.

The next GM under the new owner needs the flexibility to make whatever changes they feel are necessary.

I'm fine with anyone interim who won't do anything dumb. Let ownership bring in someone with a clear vision that everyone is on board with (kinda like MLSE did with Shanahan).

Tons of smart hockey people out there. Would be nice to see the Sens look in unconventional places for some new ideas.

Europe has some great hockey minds.

So much nepotism in the NHL, seems every executive hired is the son of some other "hockey guy" in the NHL.

So no, I have nobody in mind. Someone intelligent, with interesting ideas and a new vision for how to guide this team into a contender.

Communication skills and honesty appreciated as well.

New executives are looking like ex players more and more often, which makes sense because they know the game and the league.

Guys like Shanny who get jobs with the league, then branch back into the teams, or ex players like Francis and Stevie Y who learn the job as assistants and hold position in management for years to learn the ropes.

I would like to see Alfie in the front office stat to start learning whatever position he wants to, but in the mean time I’d like to see an experienced and respected hockey mind in place.

Jbd gets caught just as much as brannstrom. I see essentially no difference in the two except brannstrom is more physical and better in transition
JBD is better in the offensive zone, boxes out and ties up sticks better than Brannstrom. JBD is just better with a better upside.

I'd keep Motte, offer him a multi year deal with a $1.5 million aav. Literally one of the only bottom 6 guys we have who is not shite
With the potential cap crunch, I think we should keep our 4th liners under 1M.

Roy or Walker would be great to have to start next season with. If Dorion is insistent on a move and pulling the trigger, hopefully its for someone like Roy or Walker. Just hoping he doesn't manage to get Durzi off the Kings. Durzi is what we'd hope Brannstrom would be production wise, but we don't need production from the back end, just some damn stability.

Kings fan coming in peace:

I think out of the three Walker is the guy LA looks to move.

Roy is a steady defensive defender that LA needs to hold onto.

Durzi is pp quarterback, locker room glue guy.

I think both would cost more than Walker.

Walker is better than Durzi in his own end and has some decent offense in his game. He is a tad bit undersized.

Not sure what LA wants from Ottawa but Holden seems to the best bet as far as need.

I'd do Holden and a draft pick (thinking 3rd), but would honestly rather just spend more to see if we cany get Roy. Walker is an upgrade on our current RD after Zub, but if we can get Roy for Holden, Merilainen and a draft pick (conditional 2nd around winning a round or something), I hope LA bites

Any chance Chabot is on the block?

The only way I see Roy going is for a an upgrade on the left?

He is their unsung defender. Provides a game the surplus of other RHD don’t.

If a good hockey deal is there to be made with Chabot, the Kings might be a team that can part with a fair collection of assets, but not sure if y'all can handle the capspace. Not sure what it'd look like though since LA would have to send back salary. Even with Roy and some depth (Iafallo, Arvidsson, or Kempe) + draft pick/prospect, I think Chabot on LA would give y'all zero cap flexibility. Unless of course Ottawa retains for another sweetener but I don't think that would ever happen

Money would be hard. He would be the most intriguing guy imho.

If a deal gets done I assume it’s a minor move.

Unless you want to do Byfield for Stutzle ;)
