Joseph and Kelly rank above Watson in xGA/60 on the PK this year.
Joseph and Kelly rank above Watson in xGF/60 on the PK this year.
Joseph and Kelly rank above Watson on SCF% on the PK this year.
Joseph, Kelly and Motte rank above Watson in HDCA/60 on the PK this year.
Joseph and Kelly rank above Watson in HDCF/60 on the PK this year,

What metrics are you looking at? Watson doesn't rank in the top 10 this year, on the PK, in the league in any of them.

Based on the metrics (defensive and offensive), Mathieu Joseph is easily our most effective PKer.
Read the post you are responding to and you will recognize why nothing you've said in your two replies has any relevance whatsoever.

Sokolov has a PPG in the AHL and we're calling up Rourke freaking Chartier?
They are both heavily, heavily reliant on PP. Apparently Chartier is playing C, though, so I guess it kinda makes sense that he was the call-up.

Not when Gambrell and Brassard are both playing on the wing in the morning skate.

I'd much rather a player with an actual chance at an NHL future get a callup.

You seem to be claiming that Watson is currently an exceptional PKer, one of the best in the league. None of the numbers back you up.

The "Top 10 in GA/60 since 20/21" you keep quoting is pretty flimsy when you look beneath the hood and dig into other metrics over that span. Even wonkier when you look at performance so far this season.

Watson is a fine PKer. But very replaceable.

Agreed, I'm just thinking of their rationale. DJ specifically mentioned him playing as a C, so it might be relevant.

Given injuries (Crookshank, Greig), I would have preferred to see Sokolov or Reinhardt up.

Disappointing that we didn't claim Tolvanen.

He's certainly struggled this year, but we're icing some pretty ineffective players on a nightly basis.

A team like Ottawa should jump on someone like him, even if he's owed $1.4M next year.

It's not like there won't be roster spots available in the bottom 6 next season. Motte, Watson and Brassard will all most likely be gone, and Kelly shouldn't be guaranteed anything.

Right, so this year, comparable to Motte, Kelly, Gambrell, Kastelic, Watson and Joseph.

Considering his age and different skill set (compared to our other bottom 6-ers), he's a gamble I would've taken for the rest of this year and next. There's potential upside there.
If I had to guess , it was the extra year, that made about 20+ teams pass.

I don't think that should have been an issue for us. We have Motte ($1.35M) and Watson ($1.5M) coming off the books for next year in our bottom 6. Brassard will be 36 and Gambrell is an RFA.

Potentially 4 spots to fill.

Tolvanen could have filled one of those spots, and there's the off chance he delivers on that upside with a change of scenery.

I think it’s next year, is our trickiest cap year, if we are re signing Zub and Cat though, and maybe promoting Greig, oh and a RD.

But like I said, we have Motte and Watson (a combined $2.85M) coming off the books next year. So you could have pencilled in Tolvanen ($1.4M) + Greig/Crookshank ($0.85M) fill those spots and still saved $750k.

Possibly Formenton, too many unknowns right now, for that commitment.
Prefer what we did, and leave more options.

This roster can no longer be built or shored up using the waiver wire. It sends the wrong message to the leadership core that was pleading for more support. If an upgrade at forward is needed, make a trade. Or bring up Sokolov.
There have been few in-season trades for years now. Don't think this is a good time to panic & make a dumb trade. Season is toast anyhow.

Sokolov or another forward from Belleville would be fine. Why not.

I’m fine with that. Can’t be worse than Watson or Kelly.

Don't think there's any clarity on the cap situation next year either (see *** below).

This part from the latest from Lebrun seemed relevant: "......but if they don't finish paying it off, and a lot of people believe they won't this year, then the cap will just go up a million dollars. However, there is a third option that's being talked [about] around the NHL. Not so much by the League and the NHLPA (National Hockey League Players' Association) ......"

The third option being discussed by players agents and GMs (versus the NHL & NHLPA) would see the cap go up next year by $2 or $3 m. The goal of this concept is to smooth out the increases so that it doesn't go up by just a small amount next year and then take a much bigger jump the year following.

NHL Network said something about the exchange rate (Canadian to U.S. dollars) was somewhat problematic. U.S. dollar is very strong against other currencies in general.

*** Just heard that the salary cap is on the agenda for tomorrow's Board of Governors meeting.
