Would anyone do this? From either side?

Keep our 2023 1st.
Trade :
2024 1st
2025 1st
Joseph
Thomson
Zaitsev

For:
Chychrun
Vejmelka
Why does everyone want vejmelka. I can nearly guarantee you he will be a bust. And whoever tries to trade for him will need to trade his inflated contract that they gave him within 18 months.

Part of me says give the reins to sogaard. Just to see what he’s made of.

And I don’t mean see if he can win a bunch of game. I mean emotionally, mentality wise. Can he come in and stabilize. He’s gonna get shit pumped no doubt but all goalies do at one point or another in their career

906 this year 898 last year sounds like every other goalie. And they won’t cost high assets to acquire.

most of that return is for chychrun and also have to consider dumping Z and Joseph...

Husso as a ufa went for a 3rd so I assume Veggie goes for a bit more due to his cheap contract.

They’re asking for a first for vejmelka.

Maybe ndelkovic (or whatever) from Detroit

I think you need to ask yourself if you'd trade Greig or Pinto plus for Chychrun. The plus would probably be less than a first, but there's where Arizona can wait and force the Greig/Pinto thing.

As long as its not our 2023 1st, I'd do it.

Gets rid of Zaitsev's contract which lets us address other holes with cap space. I'd top 10 protect the 1st rounder though

"The initial negotiation failed" is what I get here.

A strange and I think silly decision. Why would he stay?

Our roster is not good enough and DBC is a quality asset. Why refuse to trade him?!
Our GM hasn't learnt from Stone? If he can't sign DBC he's toast as GM - I mean he's already toast after this season anyways, but he can leave it to the next regime to handle. Sale of the team literally can't happen soon enough.

On the plus side, I can see a loss to the Flames and Islanders followed by a tailspin, and I for one cheer this on. It will make cleaning house so easy to stomach.

I can see Hamonic at 50% retained (1.5M AAV) getting a late second from a contender looking for depth.

If there is a qualiy dman available we should be all over it
So you'd do Greig/pinto plus a 2nd for Chychrun?

I have a hard time letting go of either of them personally.

Why would he stay? Because we're a top 4 dman and a new coach away from competing and being a pain in the ass to play against.

May not have the ability to sign him within the organization and that big contract decision has to be deferred.

I predict either DBC takes his 9m plays the wait and see game we have seen before and is moved or he is dealt in the off season.
I do not expect what was sent out the door to get him to be recovered whether its in the off season or at the 2024 TDL.

Probably his value in a trade only drops from here. I like DeBrincat and the idea of having that kind of scorer added .. I am not convinced its the smartest way to allocate the $ as we still lack a good top 4 D , we lack quality depth and we could upgrade in goal.

Even with Norris healthy this team could BIG maybe have snuck in but I don't think they have the coaching, depth or D to be a playoff team that can win series. The DeBrincat acquisition looks like it was premature to me and looks like a group think kind of decision where the group in this case felt they were more ready than they were which included a lot of over achieving optimism out of parts of the roster.

He started off the year as our #7, so for the first 7 games he was absolutely in a lesser role and very much sucked playing about 11 mins 5v5 a night and being a pk specialist. He then went down to Belleville but since his return he's averaged 15 mins a night 5v5, pretty much in line with last year, maybe a touch lower, except instead of playing with Holden on the second pair, he's played with Chabot in a more offensive role.

I'm not seeing the lesser role as what resulted in him playing better, a different role would be more accurate, as he's mostly stood in for Zub as the stay at home counterpart to Chabot while Zub had been injured.

I'm not sure how getting scratched is supposed to be a positive for his confidence, seems a bit counterintuitive like your starting from a conclusion and rationalizing things with that in mind.

Isolating his time since his recall, he has still been playing ~1:15 less than last season, and ~4 mins less per game than 20-21.

He’s playing a career low TOI/G and ESTOI/G.

He has clearly gone from top two D in his first years here to top four last season, to bottom pair/Zub injury replacement. The fact he’s often healthy scratch shows how the team sees him.

The job he’s been asked to do hasn’t changed, his first two years he was deployed in the defensive counterpart to Chabot, 2021-2022 DJ tried him as a shutdown pair with Holden when not paired as the defensive counterpart to Chabot. This season he’s been bottom pair or Zub replacement on top pair. Even when playing top pair, they seem to have Chabot playing more shifts with others than they used to in-game.

His job is the same, he’s just got less of it. Hence why I see him as playing a lesser role.

If that’s not how you see it, fine. In my view, less deployment seems to lead to better results, I’m definitely less frustrated with Zaitsev this season and glad for it.

If for Chychrun and Vejmeka I put Pinto in a package. And if Arizona willing to take Zaitsev, Pinto a no brainer

I believe that outside of probably moving Zaitsev, this will be the quietest trade deadline for this org in years.

No reason to acquire any quality player since it'll just lower our chances at drafting in the top-10, and there isn't really anyone else we can ship out who would return quality assets. Maybe Talbot if he gets back to health this month but that's all I can see realistically.

If we sign DBC to his QO for one year we lose a ton of value on the asset. That is not a desirable outcome.
