Based on....?

We suck so much, I'm not even sure shipping out Zaitsev would improve our team (since no one is going to give anything of value for him)
I am curious as to why Dorion is super eager to get rid of Zaitsev at this stage. He will be much easier to move after the bonus for next year is paid. And won’t cost as much

Wow, hard to believe. Who in the world wants him?!

nah if someone wants him now get rid of him before he starts sucking again

even if it costs a 2nd+

the price won't change much imo

Getting rid of him for just a 2nd would be fantastic as long as we don't have to take another bad contract.

Kind of doubt D'ohrion can pull it off but here's to hoping.

With any Zaitsev trade you just hope Dorion doesn't give up too much to make it happen.

Given where we are with the sale of the team, it would be nice if management got told to sit on their hands, outside of moving pending UFAs.

At this point, I'm thinking we might just hang on to Zaitsev. He's not a good defender by any means, but he is NHL caliber. I doubt we want multiple rookie defenders in front of our #53 depth backup netminder.

He’s a scratch lol. I doubt he gets the chance to start sucking again. He’s always sucked too a good 3 games doesn’t change shit.

Probably the right move, any return you get for him now is going to be purely futures based and cap relief to make room for him on the acquiring team.

The time to move him is at the draft, either get him signed or send him off this summer.

That said, it's a shame we don't already have new ownership and a gameplan for moving forward already in place, in an ideal world you should be listening to all offers and seeing if they help you achieve your vision.

To be fair to Nikita, he has been much better this season than in past years. DJ deploying him in a much more limited role has helped.

It’s not his fault be’s been played in a role far above his ability.

He could be a decent depth add a team wanting a 7th D, his salary just doesn’t make that feasible.

Is he really playing a lesser role, 2/3 of his icetime is with Chabot on the top pair, last year he played half his time with Holden as a shutdown unit.

But why.

Interesting that they said again
because situations change in the summer and other teams may be looking to dump salary to teams

If its a 2nd do it now

no need to keep Z for the rest of the season

we cant go into next season with his cap

He’s paired with Chabot to try to compensate for his issues. The difference from previous years is that while Nikita plays many of his shifts with Thomas. Thomas gets a lot of shifts with other D even when Nikita is dressed.

It’s undeniable that his tole is lesser.

He’s playing a full 2 minutes per game less than any other season on the team. Definitely in a bottom pair TOI category.

He’s also regularly scratched which avoids him falling into a confidence tailspin.

He started off the year as our #7, so for the first 7 games he was absolutely in a lesser role and very much sucked playing about 11 mins 5v5 a night and being a pk specialist. He then went down to Belleville but since his return he's averaged 15 mins a night 5v5, pretty much in line with last year, maybe a touch lower, except instead of playing with Holden on the second pair, he's played with Chabot in a more offensive role.

I'm not seeing the lesser role as what resulted in him playing better, a different role would be more accurate, as he's mostly stood in for Zub as the stay at home counterpart to Chabot while Zub had been injured.

I'm not sure how getting scratched is supposed to be a positive for his confidence, seems a bit counterintuitive like your starting from a conclusion and rationalizing things with that in mind.

would not be surprised if DBC wants to see what happens with ownership and direction of the team. If he wants to commit to 8 years he probably wants to know what he is committing to
