I'm tryna think what kinda of deal would be fair. Not sure if Vegas would deal with us especially if they're still salty over them mishandling the Dadanov trade from us but they have some pieces that might make us better if management decides to move Cat

Whitecloud, Dean, and a 1st would have to be the start but I think Vegas would want to send more cap over. Maybe Nic Roy, in which case we better be getting another prospect like Chayka thrown in for taking on a bottom 6 centre making $3million for 4 more seasons.

I highly doubt we'd get much more than Whitecloud and a 1st, assuming I'm correct that Whitecloud is considered a solid 4/5 D on a steal of a contract.

Also if Roy is coming back the other way we'd probably need to be adding at that point. He isn't a cap dump at all. He's like their Nick Paul - a big two-way above-average 3rd liner that can play center or wing,

I know they were interested in Formenton so he could be thrown in but I don't know if that would be enough.

Not sure if they'd have the capspace to extend Cat if they didn't send salary back the other way. Marchesault and Smith are key vets from their original team, Stephenson is on a steal given his production, Martinez would be the only other player that would make sense to send to us but we don't exactly need a $5million vet LD. Their 4th line centre who is versatile is probably a fair piece to ask for, but we have loads of C. You're right tho, he's not a dump by any means

He isn't based on skill/vision but he's been a solid fit for Brady and Timmy.
Sometimes coaches play players higher in the lineup than they deserve (have shown capability), hoping that they can play with top line players and thus spreading the higher skilled players onto other lines (e.g., lines 2 and 3). I see Jospeh as potentially being that type of player. I actually like that approach and hope it works out.

Motte was a more effective player on the 3rd line.
I don't think I agree with that. Maybe if you'd said "Motte looked better than Joseph did running around accomplishing nothing" I might agree. I don't think Motte can play on a quality 3rd line whereas I think Joseph can. We haven't really had an ideal 3rd line centre so to me it's kind of hard for the line to be effective.

I also think Joseph looks good with the Tkachuk Stuetzle duo whereas I don't think Motte would.

If they can offload Karlsson or Martinez in the off-season OR if Stone/Lehner are finished and will be LTIRetired they'll have more than enough cap space.

Freeing up 5.75M by trading Whitecloud and Roy would likely free up just enough to keep ADB on a 7.5-8M long-term deal, but it would be very tight.

I doubt they'd want to trade Roy though. 26YR old excellent defensive 3rd line center capable of 40+ points that is locked up for only 3M for 4 more years.

You seem to ignore that
He is not really effective on the 3rd line and that numerous players could play that spot with Stutzle and Tkachuk and be more effective.

Not only more effective but more effective cheaper.

So they are hiding him despite being effective as a line.
Well we had Batherson on the line and it was a minus 7 in 200 mins together. Apparently we couldn't hide Batherson there ...

Hopefully Stone being out until the playoffs makes a DeBrincat acquisition for Vegas more likely, since they can now fit him in without needing to offload cap.

Still think Whitecloud is the perfect finishing piece for the defense and while it's unlikely he's ever put on the block due to his age and fantastic contract, maybe he could be made available in a deal for a talent like DeBrincat, especially if adding him could mean saving their season.
I feel like our management won't trade Cat before this offseason unless he flat out tells Dorion mid-season that he has no interest in re-signing.

I always wonder if Vegas would move Karlsson, Smith or Marchessault, they're the OG's from the expansion along with McNabb and Carrier. Wild Bill really is falling off though, his defense is fine but he isn't producing nearly enough to be worth his deal

we need games!!!! Let’s go!
I didn't realize how much I need Sens hockey to function normally. At first it was a nice having a couple of nights "off" to watch other stuff and spend time doing other stuff, but as much as I like watching random games, I need my team playing so I can complain about something lol

Joseph is going to chip in here and there with two players like Stutzle and Tkachuk. He is not a top 6 player full stop. I agree balancing the top 3 lines was overdue because of the huge gap between the top 2 lines and the 3rd line for 1/2 the season. Motte outplayed Joseph pre injuries. Joseph has been the biggest disappointment re players on the team this year imo. He has some decent bottom six energy tools but is not a very high IQ player.
To try and make the PO he's ok with Stu and the captain
On a cup contender he is absolutely bottom 6 (on pace for 7.9 goals lol)
That's why we need to keep Debrincat imo

Since the new year he isn’t moving the puck as well, he’s getting pushed around and he has become an icing machine.

He has played 46 of the Devils 49 games.
I’m reading 33 games played.

But I don’t watch much jersey. If you do I’ll take your word. But he was good for pens. And good for …most of his time with jersey so far. So this may be the anomaly.

Motte was a more effective player on the 3rd line.
Motte looks pretty good playing with grinders in the fourth line. You can tell he really makes a difference

I was talking Graves not Marino. Somewhere there was confusion.

I think I found where it all started
I’m not sure if you’ve been following the Devils but the bloom has been falling off the rise in terms of Marino. He had a great start but is looking more and more like a 3rd pair Dman as the season progresses.
If you meant Graves there, ok, but this is where people started thinking you were talking about Marino

Motte isn't as fast but has a higher IQ .. He is better at reading the play , If anyone ran around and accomplished nothing its Joseph. He could be the poster boy for that.

Jospeph is faster .. younger... maybe even more fun but he isn't better. Have to see how Motte would do with them or Brassard for that matter,

Damn. I meant Graves but looks like this was 100% my fault. I was replying to a post about Graves, Marino and Toews. Mea Culpa.

Oh shiiiiiit.
Yup. By the way I’d still like Graves but he’s going to get paid like a top 4.

Ottawa already has the pieces for a good top 9 if Formenton returns to the team, this would be a decent top 9 when everyone is healthy. I assume that Joseph, Thomson, Brannstrom & some other prospects & picks should be able to put a package together to get them a top 4 RD.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - DeBrincat
Formenton - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Giroux
Ostapchuk - Kastelic - Boucher/Kelly

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - ??? (Hamonic)
Kleven - JBD/Zaitsev

Forsberg - ??? (Talbot)

This team needs to sell if they have any takers.

Talbot, Hamonic, Motte, Holden, Brannstrom, Watson should go for whatever they can get. No point in bringing any of them back except maybe Hamonic if he is willing to take a massive pay cut.
This team should 100% sell on any UFA's that they have. Even though they are just 6 points out right now, they are going to need approximately 96 points to get into the playoffs. This means that they need to get 45 out of a possible 64 points available to them in the next 32 games. That's a .700 clip or 23 wins out of the remaining 32 games. That is pretty steep ask for a team that has struggled all year to get to .500. That said, I am 100% expecting PD to be a buyer at the TDL.

There are a lot of players that could play that spot and do it at least as effectively for a lot less $/pt than Joseph,
Joseph ranks 493 in cost per point league wide. Just a factor. He can play with Tkachuk and Stutzle as could many players and be a "pretty effective line"
I would like to try other players too including Formenton, Kelly and Kastelic. You never know when a player will establish chemistry with others.

We need more physical players if we want to become a playoff team and SC contender. The recent game between NYR and the Flames was great!
