Its unlikely DeBrincat gets signed to his QO, we either extend him to a raid deal with term (ie less than 9 mil) or he's traded. Not sure what the thinking is if we wish to add to our defense. Maybe subtract a forward?
Here's some food for thought. It's a 22 player roster for 2023-24 with Chychrun added.
The total cap hit is $84,974,000, so it's over the $83.5 m cap ceiling that was recently announced.
Zaitsev & his salary is gone/eliminated. I've kept Debrincat and his $9.0 m Qualifying Offer. Zub has been resigned. This roster includes a number of ELCs or league minimum types on defense, goal and 4th line. Signing bonuses have not been included.

Huh? If 6 teams are in the running I’d be absolutely shocked if that’s the best Arizona can get, even with Chychrun’a injury history.Yeah if we had offered Greig and a 1st it would be done. We’ve clearly not offered them what they want.
Speculation it’s Klevin + protected top 5 pick plus Zaitsev + minor piece
I was thinking of something similar. Even if Debrincat signs a long term contract at let's say $8.5 m/year, another move is required. So, that means it would likely be a player with a middle value contract. Or, like you say, if Debrincat is looking for a large payday, then they move on from him.Its unlikely DeBrincat gets signed to his QO, we either extend him to a raid deal with term (ie less than 9 mil) or he's traded.
That said, even if we add him to the club of 8 mil guys, we'd still be tight, or a bit over
Somebody will likely still be a cap casualty, Joseph, and Zub are the likely candidates
Chychrun doesnt have the best reputation either. The injuries are a real thing. There is some history there.Huh? If 6 teams are in the running I’d be absolutely shocked if that’s the best Arizona can get, even with Chychrun’a injury history.
So, simply put, you don't want Chychrun. Which is fine, there will be other opportunities.I reeeeeally don’t want to trade Kleven, even for Chych.
I think he’s going to be a super solid defender that also has the hardest shot on the team, is a punishing players, and can skate and move the puck well enough to not be a liability in transition.
Pretty much a player we absolutely need.
Not true, I like the player. The problem is that he hasn’t played a full season ever, is currently injured again, and had a pretty rough season playing on the right side last year compared to his break out season the year before. So, simply put, you don't want Chychrun. That was probably Pierre himself because "Rifai is from Beaconsfield, QC and tore it up with Hotchkiss School in Connecticut".Not a big name but Mcguire on radio today said that the sens showed interest in Leafs D prospect Marshall Rifai when he was working with them.

Sure, we all would, but if the cost of Chychrun is a 1st and Kleven, it's a no brainer for me personally. Not true, I like the player. The cost that has been floated is something I have no interest in paying. I don’t want to trade both picks and prospects that we actually want to come in a few seasons down the road when we’ll need that ELC role player.
I think guys like Boucher, Kleven, Grieg, and obviously Pinto, will be important players on our team, and won’t be guys that command huge salaries.
I would trade Jarventie and one of the two RD kids, and a pick personally, but I’d rather see another DBC deal where only picks and B prospects are sent. Shamelessly I want to buy low on a guy who had a rough year, wants out, and is currently injured.
Eh, they absolutely have to move him, it’s just a matter of where and when at this point.Sure, we all would, but if the cost of Chychrun is a 1st and Kleven, it's a no brainer for me personally.
Pinto and sanderson are off the table and i think greig is too, so that leaves very little to entice Arizona to move a top 4, young dman on a good contract.
That similar package is huge though. 7th overall is a major pick, waaaay bigger than Kleven. And arguably bigger than a mid round 2023 1st.Eh, they absolutely have to move him, it’s just a matter of where and when at this point.
As I said, he’s been injury prone and seems to be best suited for LD work. Which is fine, but none of that screams throw assets at him. Our first next season carries a lot of value all on its own, I’d rather give them guys from a position of wealth in our system.
Anyways, it’s all good, I like the player, I just have a lot more concerns about him than say DBC for instance. I would feel better trading a similar package.
7th OA in a very weak draft compared to likely a mid first in a very strong draft. I think they are closer than the numbers would indicate to be honest. It’s also a pick that is very important to us I’d think as we need to keep filling the cupboards. That similar package is huge though. 7th overall is a major pick, waaaay bigger than Kleven. And arguably bigger than a mid round 2023 1st.
It's in the eye of the beholder right now. Does Dorion want Chychrun that bad?
I think you’d probably be the passenger….I’d drive Kleven to the airport myself and pay his ticket for Chychrun.
I'd rather keep JBD over Thompson, but if that 1st is Top 10 protected I'd do it.1st 2023

Assuming Chychrun is really the key to solidifying our defense for the next couple of years, it's a matter of competitive window. I'd rather go for it now while we have D-Cat (this year and possibly next?), Zub (maybe only this year?) and Giroux (next 3 years, and probably steadily declining every year), while Klevin, assuming he really is all that, would probably only join the team in a couple of years and reach his potential even later than that.I'd include Klevin in a trade for Chychrun, but among prospects of his tier he is probably the guy I'd least want to include. His skill set is unique and if he hits his potential there will be nobody else on the roster like him.

I would be ecstatic as a Sens fan, Armstrong likely hangs up the phone.
Not sure what the thinking is if we wish to add to our defense. Replace a forward with a large (or larger) contract with another forward with a smaller contract? Which one?
