I should have said that Pinto is a no-go for me. I view him as the perfect 3rd line center going forward. Might be one of the best in the league if he hits his potential as a two-way forward ala Cirelli.

IF the Sens actually agreed to give one of them up, I'd prefer it be Greig. Doing so wouldn't hurt the team now but if DeBrincat doesn't re-sign there could be a hole at the LW position going forward that Greig might have been able to fill within a couple years. Only other guy with top 6 potential at LW is Jarventie, but he's a boom/bust guy and could easily fail if he doesn't improve his effort level.

Neither should be on the table.
Agree, but I said in another thread that if Formenton is cleared, perhaps Ottawa trades Greig. I'd personally hate to do it, but you have Formenton, Crookshank, Motte, etc all trying for a 3rd line spot now and going forward.

Possible mini logjam there.

Or still trade Formenton for the extra flexibility next year

If Greig plays like Marchand and Pinto plays like Bergeron, i’m pretty sure that it would look badly in a few years, just like the Zibanejad trade.

Brandt Clarke and Jordan Spence are absolutely on fire in the Kings camp right now. Looks like they have a glut of RD. If no one steps up in camp this could be an option of a team willing to make a deal.

Those players arent like Formenton. He is younger and better than both of them have ever been.

I'd want Matt Roy out of the RD the Kings have, his salary is $4 million even though his cap hit is $4 million, but he's a good all round defender like Zub. Not physical in terms of hitting, but knows how to use his body and protect the puck.

I wanted Clarke bad... So frustrating that we ended up out of range for him, he'd have been the absolute perfect fit for our pool. I don't see them trading either him or Spence though.

That said, maybe the open up to trading Roy as a result which could be a good fit for us.

For now though, I'm willing to give Thomson and JBD a fair shake at it.

I would be happy to put all of LA's RD in a hat and just pick one.

Doesn't matter who comes out. Pretty crazy they have about 5 RD that would instantly become Ottawa's 2nd best RD, maybe best within a year.

Well no they aren't trading either of those guys. Clarke is a star. Can't believe he fell to 8.

But yeah Roy might be an option. I also agree if JBD or Thomson don't step up then they explore that.

Formenton being cleared gives us some room to make a move. Not sure how that's debatable.

Am I the only one who thinks Hamonic can be a respectable #4 DMan?

Not saying it WILL happen... but I think it could.

He just turned 32, so he's not old. He is a decent skater. This is the first year he's had a training camp since 2019-2020, and before then he was quite a good DMan... definitely someone we would have been thrilled to have. I also thought he was solid with us last season. Not a legit top 4, but solid.

He is a smart and strong player and has solid physical tools. He's not skilled, but I'm not willing to write him off as a bottom pairing DMan just yet.

I have to think that they like Chykrun due to the offence he brings. They were rumoured to be in on Klingberg and Weeger but not Marino which points to wanting backend offence not stay at home types. As fans we can disagree with what is needed but I doubt Hague is of interest.
I would like to get an offensive RD.

Who among Doughty, Roy, walker, durzi, Spence, and Clarke would you take after Hamonic?

Maybe he can be a servicable stop gap for the 2nd pairing but id sooner take any one of these guys over him.

The only debatable one is Walker coming off injury. But I'd still take Walker based on Age and higher potential.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here, because one team has a wealth of RD, Hamonic isn't a viable 2nd pairing guy?

If you read up I said that I like those 5 guys better than everyone on right side but zub.

Devilish Baffoon then said isn't hamonic top 4? Just like you. Which isn't really a response to what i said.

Sure hamonic can be top 4. I like the guys in LA better.

Ok, I guess he was just asking what's the rush. I mean, if we could get one of the Kings RD for free, absolutely, though ideally we need D with size and a lot of their guys are a bit undersized,

I do think Hamonic gets underrated though, he had a rough go in Vancouver but with Calgary he was pretty effective. He still skates pretty well and has the physical tools, I have liked how he's looked since joining the team. Until one of JBD or Thomson is ready, I think he can hold the fort, so I'm not sure it's worth the cost to upgrade on him unless we're getting someone much better.

He definitely fills the hole this year. Gives us time to wait for a good trade option to become available.

That's the key....we can't be backed into a corner to make a trade. I don't want to end up losing some blue chips in Greig/Pinto/1st if the fans and Dorion panic if we have a slow start. Hamonic can do the job this season, at least.

Pretty smart plan to pick up Hamonic last season for a brief test drive for both sides before summer.

He looks like the exact partner that the team, and Sanderson’s dad, all wanted to put with Jake this season.

Alls well ends well on that front I believe.

I think one or both of JBD and Lassi will make the team eventually (hoping for that last step of development for both). They look pretty good in their respective roles with their respective strengths so far in preseason.

If you give Sanderson to play with Chychrun I am sure Sanderson's dad would be excited.

We don't know if Hamonic is the guy that he wanted. Thats pretty much the only option we have to play with him.

I’m not so sure. He’s not a seasoned vet, and he didn’t have a good showing playing RD.

We took Hamonic for a spin to see if he could be that guy last season, and he looked pretty solid for us.

It comes down to a disagreement on that point between some folks is all.

I think he was solid, I think the price was fine, and I think he has the potential to be exactly what Sanderson needs in his first season here. There wasn’t exactly a lot of options on RD to acquire that could fill that role.

Chycrun is a lot of things, but bringing him in to mentor Sanderson while playing his weak side and not proving to be great at it so far, isn’t exactly a recipe for success either.

We put ourselves in a good potion to not have to be stuck with forcing a kid there, relying on Zaitsev, splitting Zub and Chabby, or making a bad trade.

It may not be perfect, but it was solid foresight.
