Its simply easier to play your strong side. His best play has come playing his strong side not the right. Thats why it matters.
Ya I get that, they can go hand in hand. What I was meaning is I'm only interested in acquiring him if he will play the right side here more so than just worrying about his handedness in a bubble.

This is correct. We may need a few (ELCs or league minimum vets) on defense and in goal as well if we want to keep Debrincat at his Qualifying Offer next year, and extend/resign Zub.

If you plan to resign Zub and keep Debrincat at his Qualifying Offer, all these ELCs/league minimum vets will be needed just to meet cap without Chychrun unless there's a substantial increase in the cap ceiling.
Friedman is reporting Cap projections for the next 3 seasons

2023/24. 83.5
2024/25. 87.5-88
2025/26. Approximately 92M

Next year will be TIGHT but we will be in good position after that.

Likely more of Friedmans speculation, unless he said Daly told him that, even though even the league itself only projects 6 months out.

He said it’s from teams. The league has provided all teams with the projection for planning purposes.

I don’t know why we as fans care what chychruns handedness is
Because he ‘sucked’ playing RD last year, and that’s the position we’d like to fill. We need a #4 RD.

Personally I’d rather give our young D a chance to shine while we still can, and I’d rather Kleven be given a shot to make our bottom pairing nasty.

I don’t really want to give up a lot for a defender that we don’t really need. I’m not against trading for him, but I’m not interested in trading Grieg or Pinto, that’s for sure.

If we’re chasing him we either A beleive he will be fine off side. B. Believe one of our current lefties will be fine on the right side. C. Plan on having him Sanderson and Chabot each in different pairings.

Let’s see where our D is at by Christmas and evaluate what we need if anything on the back end.

That increased cap helps out teams like us so much more than some of our rivals. Teams like Toronto and Edmonton will have to re-sign elite superstars that are central to their core, meanwhile we just have to address our depth roles!

Well, that is good news starting in 2024-25 and beyond.

For 2023-24, based on fiddling with the spreadsheet, I saw things as really difficult with some potential adjustments/subtractions if the cap was below 86 m. Contracts are for multiple years, so we still need to get past the 2023-24 hurdle.

We still have a hurdle to meet in 2023-24. See #1912.

How about we don't wait until we're potentially too far back of a playoff spot before addressing a very obvious need.
Lots of things to figure out cap wise for next year. If we can get Brannstrom, Sanderson and JBD some good experience this season then I think it would be great as a way to get through next season. I want a shot at the Cup in 2024/25 and beyond.

Would be nice to have both Zub and Chychrun playing on their strong sides. That would be "optimal". At the NHL level, Chychrun's only year at RD was last year, and he didn't have a great year. But yes, have to place faith in our scouts and coaches evaluations. Maybe it boils down to the price we'd pay versus the alternatives? I guess we can surmise that so far they haven't liked the price they would pay because the deal hasn't been done.

If the cap exceeds 90 million we may actually be able to re-sign Batherson once his contract is up.
2023/24

Pinto
JBD
Neither have leverage

Brannstrom if he sticks

Debrincat - signing means bye bye Talbot and Formenton IMO

Zub

2024/25

Sanderson - There goes the cap increase

Expect to pay Pinto, especially if they want another long terms deal.

To me he's going to be the next Havlat. Playing down in the lineup due to strength at a position but every bit a top talent.
I see a cheap 2 year bridge for Pinto.

You don’t think offensive guys need to play both ways, and part of a structured system on defence?
That makes no sense.

The question is wether or not DJ has a good system, or can properly get guys to play it.
Jacques Martin had a very soundly structured team that played great team defence and far from hindering offence, it allowed us to be the highest scoring team in the league. We were devastating on the counter attacks. Etc.

This isn’t the 80’s. All players who want to win are expected to play both ways, play within the defensive structure, the use their offensive genius and freelance when they have the puck.
The second paragraph is what I was hinting at. It was a quick post. Sorry.

I’d love to see a Chychrun - Brannstrom pairing.

I feel like they’d have great chemistry.

Are you guys praying hard enough for this to happen?

I feel like I’m going to pop a blood vessel in my eye I’m willing this into existence so intensely.
