Malkin's contract must set the blueprint for a Giroux contract now? Ballpark of 6M x 4 years? Not sure how I feel about 4 years for a 34 year old.

I am not sure if it does, how many rings and goals Malkin has?
I think production typically drives the pricepoint more than previous team championships.

Malkin is a 60-80 point guy - so still a 7M guy. But is old and injury prone so the team doesn't want to give him a long term deal. They compromise on both sides and he gets a long deal but lower cap hit and if he hits that 70 points for 1-2 more years, great for Penguins, and he still gets 6M for the last two years. If he ends up being a 50 pt player/injured the rest of the contract, Pens have their lifetime guy retire with Crosby and Letang in 3-4 years and do basically what Senators should have done with Alfie at the end.

In that same vein, Giroux is currently likely tracking to be a 60-70 point guy, but age factors in. We give him that 3rd-4th year that is major risk for any team to expect production from a 36-38 year old, and he lowers his cap to that 5.5-6M range.

Or we sign him at 2 years for 8M per.

Highly doubt Giroux will be getting paid that much.

My money's ono 6M x 3 years. We learned from Murray that 4 years is a bit of a gamble, 3 won't handcuff us for Sanderson's next contract. Other team will offer 6M x 4 years, but we'll max out bonus money and he can retire after with happy wife, home camp here, and get ready for a gig in player dev.

Total guess.

Yeah this is about right imo. I think it might be closer to 6.5M though.

That's one heck of a forward group if you ask me. Scoring, toughness, speed.... I just wish the young guys were a bit older but solid group nonetheless.

Ottawa should go hardcore after Chris Tanev or Andersson(would be dream acquisition).

I would without question trade 2013 top 10 protected for Andersson + Brown + Sokolov/Jarv

I may, may even entertain Greig. That's how highly I think of Andersson. Would be absolutely unreal.

top 10 protected 1st, Greig, Brown for Andersson + 4th line C is max I'd do and wouldn't hesitate.

We'd have a top 5 D in the league if Sanderson comes in and plays as expected(not even lights out).

But I think Petry is going to be our guy. Friend of mine told me Petry is our target, even with all rumors of leaving Canada.

Best top 6 in the league is a little over the top. Norris, Stutzle and Batherson don’t have even 2 full seasons in the NHL and Brady has more development coming. It’s a dangerous top 6 and it’s above average but there are better groups.
Which ones? I expect Tkachuk, Norris and Bath to take steps forward and Stuetzle to take a lead. If that happens, Cat and G just need to maintain to make a VERY good top 6.
