If a big package goes for weegar, it’s gotta come with an extension, no?

DeBrincat didn't come with an extension. Not even a conversation to gauge interest in extending apparently.

Maybe it's different with Weegar given he's 1 year away from UFA whereas DeBrincat is 2 years away.

I don't know what that is but he's been a legit top pairing DMan for at least 2 yrs now. And a successful #1 for extended stretches. If anything, I feel like some bad play in the playoffs + a Florida implosion have made him underrated.
I watched a lot of Panthers games this year, and he struggled throughout the season, but fair enough I understand he has been great prior to this year, that's why I wanted to watch more of him.

Defensive liability is perhaps an exaggeration, but he has poor pivots to go along with poor speed, so can be beaten easily when out of position, and this year, he had quite a few clueless Ceci moments during the season (per game sometimes), but they were capitalized less upon due to the strength of the team.
they are moving him cause they can't keep him due to the cap. Other than that it seems like they actually would want to bring him back

Why are we trading CBrown? Cause we can't sign him. Doesn't mean he isn't a warrior
So apparently Zito is on record stating that they want to resign Weegar, but there is a sizeable contingent of the fanbase that wants Weegar gone, and that's more what I'm referring to. Might even be 50/50.

I do feel Connor Brown is different because he told the organization he likes the idea of exploring free agency(?).

its possible (depending on who we add) but I suspect we carry an extra due to injuries and depending on how Sanderson looks early. i think adding a RD just means that Zaitzev is gone

I also don't think they start Sanderson as a 2nd pairing guy
I’d keep Brannstrom as a rotational piece with Holden. He brings something we don’t have a lot of on the back end. If another team wants him in a trade then move him but I wouldn’t move him just for the sake of it.

Weegar would be a great complement to Chabot/Sanderson and would allow us to ice a pretty nasty top 4.

Manifesting Anna & Olivia #BossBabe energy, taking birthday pictures in front of the big gold numbers balloons, GymShark attire shopping spree and Aperol Spritz selfies on the f***ing Gram. Really kicked Pierre's arse into gear
I don’t really know what some of that means but F*** Yeah

What makes that trade so bad was that there was no "hindsight is 20/20" shit. Zib waas just as good as Brassard and 6 years younger when the trade was made. The only explanation was that Brassard was cost-controlled and Melnyk didn't want to pay Zib, which would explain the 2nd going back to the Rangers for paying the bonus.
Hometown boy
PD can't get enough
Worried he's going to overpay for Weegar

I watched more Panthers than any team besides the Sens this year and I found him very solid. I definitely dont think he has poor speed, although I can get behind him struggling with pivots. I think you might have an inflated view of what a top pairing DMan does, though, because having some warts and making mistakes doesnt override the fact that he's an excellent producer, excellent possession player, and has excellent defensive results. I am sure those are partially a product of his team, but he also plays a big role in their offensive and defensive success.

Only reason to stay away from Weegar, IMO, is that he will get paid like a #1/2 UFA D, and UFA contracts rarely work out.

I just need to know when things are good enough to buy a ticket to a game again.
Probably when the roster is good enough to win at least half the time at home, and not go 15-26 at home like last season, when some apologists thought that should trigger a string of sellouts

We have to spend 1.5M on the buyout to save 750K.

Not really a money saver since we'll have to replace his roster spot.

I'm glad we didn't have to throw away an asset to dump his contract though.
You don’t have to replace his roster spot as it was buyout, trade or AHL.

Sellouts ? I don’t think anyone thought that was realistic … maybe just comparable attendance with teams like AZ or BUF ?

Hopefully they improve this year.

Dorion when he trades for Weegar but then Florida uses the extra cap space to sign Giroux:

Frank Seravalli thinks the Flames will be forced to trade Matthew Tkachuk if Gaudreau walks. Probably too late now that we traded for Debrincat.

interesting that we have been linked to DeAngelo Weegar Chychrun and Burns (and to a lesser extent Klingberg)

Burns is an interesting name. Much older but he can still get around and with his size and physicality his game could age pretty gently and he’ll be useful for a while.

Sens would definitely need to include Zaitsev.

The goaltending we are starting the season with is scary
It will be interesting if Forsberg will play as well as he did to end the season for a full yr & also interesting if Gustavsson can be a good backup next season. The goaltending once again will be the big question mark for the Sens going into next season especially if PD fixes the D with a top 4 RD acquisition.

Burns is interesting obviously lost a few steps but if SJ retains and we send them Zaitsev maybe its worth it? One thing for sure Burns hasn't lost is his physicality.

Having said that, hes not my first choice that would be Chychun personally for me.

Chabot - Chychun
Sanderson - Zub
Holden - Hamonic

that's pretty solid if ya ask me.
