People over here trying to say all of Dorion's bad moves have been erased. Not so fast.

Would definitely be protected, and if we pick high enough that the 1st isn't transferred, after all these moves, Dorion will be gone anyways.
True, but the pick from the Duchene trade was protected and we still wound up giving up Byram. And even if Dorion gets fired, we'd still be the ones that could potentially suffer.

If Dorion keeps this up he'll eventually be forgiven for his disastrous start as a GM, but I think it's silly to pretend previous errors were due to Melnyk's interference.

He made some really bad decisions and the team has paid the price for them. Hopefully getting more experience in his role is going to mean better decisions going forward.

Dorion could make that DeBrincat trade 5 times and that still wouldn't redeem Zibby.

Never forget.

I mean I agree in principle that we shouldn’t forget the bad moves, but if he acquires 4 more 24 year old 40 goal scorers without trading any prospects or unprotected picks I’m good with PD.

Yeah fair enough.

I'll say I'm cautiously optimistic.

Yeah, you can make as much of a correlation with Melnyk as you can with Bowness (or, as you mentioned, increase in time).

What makes that trade so bad was that there was no "hindsight is 20/20" shit. Zib waas just as good as Brassard and 6 years younger when the trade was made. The only explanation was that Brassard was cost-controlled and Melnyk didn't want to pay Zib, which would explain the 2nd going back to the Rangers for paying the bonus.

Ottawa should not trade Greig, Boucher or Ostapchuk, these three guys are really going to help this team some day. There are plenty of other options & ways to get deals done without moving these guys. They still have trading chips in Brannstrom, Thomson, Kelly, Joseph, Gustavsson & a number of other prospects/picks/UFAs/RFAs.

For a top 4 D, I would include any 1 or 2 of Sokolov, Ostapchuk, Kastelic, Boucher, Brannstrom, Kleven; however, I want to retain Greig, Pinto & Sanderson.
The Sens wouldn't. At least in my opinion I don't think they are interested in parting with those players other than Brannstrom.

I doubt that - it’s a big ask. Branny has developed a lot since his u20 days … I’m not even sure Sanderson will outplay Lassi in the fall.

Sanderson will be a undersized/thin 3LD until he gets his legs under him. When he does, he should take off.
And you will never admit it when Sanderson outplays him.

I like him but the asking price seems steep.

He’d be another Joseph / Formenton type.
He’d be a today type upgrade on both those players but combined they will cost less than Mikayev

I've advocated trading for Giroux for years and I would still take him on this team, but I'm not so anxious to lose Brown. He and Formenton are our best penalty killers. He's an excellent forechecker and a versatile player. If I had to choose between him and Giroux, I would lean towards him. If we know for sure he is leaving as a UFA, then it's a different decision, but I don't know that for sure and he brings stuff Giroux doesn't.

I'm hoping Joseph can fill in for Nick Paul at least.

I think Giroux is a much better PP player and has better hands. He's also no slouch in the defensive department IMO.

I like Brown but he'll be paid too much to be a 3rd liner and he's not good enough on the PP to be a 2nd liner.
