That’s not necessarely true. Duclair will be LTIR’d until January. They could sign him now and they have a lot of time to deal with it.
Sorry but you are wrong.
The Panthers as they stand are less than a million from the cap ceiling. They need to sign 4 more players. Get rid of Duclair ( $3 million) and Weegar ($3.25 million) that gives them around $7 million to sign Giroux and 5 other players. Not enough money unless Giroux takes a lowball deal. To make it happen they could dump a salary but the most likely salary dump candidate, Hornquist ( 1 year left @ $5.3 million) has a modified 8 team NTC. But they also have no 1st round picks for the next 2 years to entice a team to take him.
Their UFAS include Chariot, Marchment, Accari and Hagg all of whom played for them down the stretch and in the playoffs. Also Huberdeau's team friendly ($5.9 million) deal is up at the end of next season.

Well I'm very happy to be wrong then.

Where'd you hear Jan? The only thing I've seen is mid season, as in he won't be ready for opening night. Pageau had a similar situation and was back after 4 months (originally expected out up to 6 months), that would mean Late Oct, to late Dec. Not a big difference in the worst case scenario but room for less (I guess worst case would be setbacks but you get the idea)

I would be surprised, SJS would have explored all trade options before buying him out.
be weird to claim him right now, teams are wanting to see how their kids have developed and have a bunch of UFA options that will be available

So with 100% certainty, this is the difference.

With Eugene, he wanted to be in the know for everything, and would weigh in and make requests. This was true for Hockey Operations to marketing to communications, etc. Add in hiring Pierre McGuire to essentially spy on Dorion, and add his 2 cents, and you ended up with some really bad moves last year.

Without Eugene, Dorion has been told his budget is X. Beyond that he is free to make the moves he needs to. Same with other parts of the organization.

Ultimately, Dorion is going to have to live and die by his own sword, but he won’t have anyone else to blame this time around.
Figured. Thanks for the reply.

getting a bit off topic here but receiving a 2nd to take on Paquette and Coburn was good imo. Should have immediately waived paquette tho
Good old Shitbird Paquette. One of the worst to ever don the sweater

Sens are at 54m on payroll in real dollars 50m without Brown….If internal budget is 76m. That means the sens are gonna spend about 20-24m additional dollars. Some of that is gonna go to Norris and Formenton. But there is plenty of room to get Giroux and make a trade for a top 4 right shot D.

It is gonna be a fun season

He might just get claimed.

You know all this Balcers, Dahlen hahaha you guys were upset for nothing talk is funny. Ya the players didn't trend into superstars but that doesn't mean they weren't handled poorly. Dahlen was a prospect who was doing nothing but trending up and he was traded for Burrows who I can't imagine had any value really maybe a 4th or 3rd rd pick ? Balcers was waived by us a rebuilding team and given away for nothing. I think people were upset cause we were going to suck so why not play the kid and he either gels or doesn't and waive him later, or maybe he plays good and has some trade value. To me it's not a matter of oh it didn't work out look ahahah people were upset for no reason, it was just poor asset management and a budget team cannot afford to be bad at asset management. Anyway that is just how I felt about the moves at the time, I can't remember who we waived Blacers to make room for but whatever I really don't care today about it.

All that said it's in the past. Burrows went on to a promising career in biting people and we now have DeBrincat so who gives a f***.

And f*** Paquette

I doubt the 75 mil budget rumours, at least until I see a source.

But is it $76M? I expect a budget pickup at D unless we can jettison Zaitsev.

Money this year certainly isn't going to be a problem. I'm just worried about the next two seasons.

Stutzle, Pinto and (hopefully) Zub will be getting big raises after next season. Season after that Sanderson will need a new contract.

Between those 4 guys that's probably around 20-5M in additional salary with little set to come off the books.

I don't want to trade for a top 4 D like Weegar AND sign Giroux if it means losing Zub to FA in a year and potentially not being able to throw a big contract at DeBrincat to keep him long-term. Really don't want to create a 2 year contending window with DeBrincat as a 2 year rental.

I would like to target Zach Whitecloud from Vegas. He is on a sweetheart of a contract. If we are going big game hunting for a RD with a significant acquisition cost I think we should be kicking the tires on him to see if we can pry him loose.

Spend the money to get a legit top 4 Defensemen. No need to through the bank at Giroux

This very much but I don't see Vegas moving him his contract is too good for them.

meh I wouldn't worry too much. The chip will fall where they fall and we try to keep the best peices. No reason not to spend now and atleast have a 2 year window then slowly chip away at the depth
