I don't see the Sens parting ways with any of their core identity prospects. In my opinion that includes at minimum 2 forward lines and one d pairing: Greig-Pinto-Sokolov, Ostapchuk-Kastelic-Boucher, Sanderson-Kleven

The Sens already made a trade for their top six forward target so the only other big trade they will be looking to make will be for a top 4 d. They have plenty of other valuable prospects as trade chips that aren't as much identity players. In particular if they are acquiring a d man then it would make sense that one of Brannstrom, JBD or Thomson would be the key prospect going the other way.
For a top 4 D, I would include any 1 or 2 of Sokolov, Ostapchuk, Kastelic, Boucher, Brannstrom, Kleven; however, I want to retain Greig, Pinto & Sanderson.

Stepan trade was awful but has very little to do with losing Balcers. Galchenyuk? Sure. But ultimately, still, pretty inconsequential.

No need to drag anyone over the coals & obviously theres is a difference over what they were then vs what they are now. There are/were very fair arguments that neither move was good asset management, but also fair to say that neither move was super consequential in the long run.

Stepan acquisition happened after the Galchenyuk signing.

My theory is people loved him cuz they could call him Rudy and it reminded them of the movie and simpler times. RUDY RUDY RUDY
Sometimes -- when I'm lonely -- I still sit and think about him.... and it hurts to remember all the good times.

To me the biggest problem with the Burrows deal was the extension. That would have been a no go for me and I liked Burrows.
Dahlen well .. I liked him but .. you have to give up something

Balcers .. was not a huge loss... its in the context of who Dorion brought in that it looks worse.
I actually liked Chlapik more than Balcers but both would be 4th liners at best on the Sens right now. Easy to move on.

Who is better defensively Weegar or Chyckrun?

We need a f..ing stud stay at home RD for Sanderson

If we sign Giroux offense will be taken care of

We need to clean our GA
We need to improve both GF and GA to become a bubble playoff team. Must get closer to 3.0 GF and 3.0 GA.

Even Burns at 50% retained is gonna be rough. He is 37 and signed 3 more years.

4Million for a 40 year old Burns is alott
Burns is Too old at age 37.

I think it's more likely the Panthers open up cap space to sign Marchment than Giroux.

He'd be cheaper and is more of what they need.

Another prospect that this board was infatuated with is now gone in San Jose.
Balcers was a replacement-level player.
They'll just scream about AsSeT mAnaGEmeNt like they know the true value of some of these players around the league. But a great organization like San Jose took him so he can't be bad! But now they're buying him out so...now what are we supposed to think about him????

The number of things the HFSens hive mind have been wrong about in the last 2 months is starting to get alarmingly high. Keep telling those of us who take a more balanced view of things that we're just trolls/shills/bots for the organization/Melnyk/Dorion...it must be so deflating to be so wrong about so many things and I can understand why they feel the need to lash out at some of us.

In all cases pretty much everybody agreed they were expendable, the complaint was always about the return (or lack of). The position gets twisted into "obsessed with Balcers" or "thought Dahlen was the next coming" when in reality it was always more about the players coming in place of them.

I like Weegar. Not giving up 2023 1st rounder like, tho.
I’d give up our 2024 1st unprotected… we still need to have depth coming through the system, and given the supposed depth of the 2023 draft, I’d prefer to hang on to that pick so we have at least one more good prospect coming through that will be an ELC for a good duration of the mid 20’s while we’re further along in contending.
