That decision would rest with Giroux. Even with the cap space opened up, Ottawa could offer him significantly more than Florida, and it sounds like their plan is to go very high on AAV (like $7M) but on a short deal (ie.2 years). Give him the same money over 2 years that other teams would give him over 3 or 4.

He may be deciding between $14M/2 in Ottawa or $12M/3 in Florida (or something like that).

I dont know for sure that we will need to replace his roster spot, unless you mean AHL. MDZ was never gonna have a roster spot here and we still have 7D.
