Are we sure Weegar is that good? I only remember him from the playoffs, where he did not look that good.
Yeah he certainly wasn’t as good last year as he was two years ago, Panthers fan can attest to that. But he still would be a much better option than what we have now, not sure about trading a first for him in the offseason tho..

You originally quoted the post where I asked Benji if I should be happy or upset with the incoming trade. Now you are quoting my post that was in response to your original post out of context obviously, man you are hilarious. Bro seriously just take your L on this one.

Weegar still had a pretty fantastic season. Not quite as good as last year, but still a top 30 D in the league without a doubt.

Lol at SJ jettisoning Dahlen and Balcers. Not defending the decisions that saw them leave us or saying that the outcry at the time was wrong (I was pissed about Balcers for sure)... but I think it is fair to say we can leave any remaining angst behind.

We have heard this time and again when the Sens dump a fan favourite prospect. Shane Prince, Puempel, Noesen, Shane Bowers, etc. It's normal - fans overvalue their own prospects, and undervalue guys who have shown that they can play in the NHL every day, either on our roster or on other teams. I've gotten caught up on the hype train on certain prospects in the past, and no doubt will again...

The Montreal Canadiens would soon announce a transaction that was concluded during the draft, reports our informant Renaud Lavoie.

After an eventful draft, the work of CH general manager Kent Hughes has only just begun. Canadians currently exceed the salary cap and must exchange contracts to comply.

This is one of the reasons why the organization did not submit a qualifying offer to young striker Rem Pitlick, who could have obtained a salary too high for the taste of the leaders thanks to his arbitration rights.

Rumors continue to circulate about defender Jeff Petry. The Athletic reporter Pierre Lebrun linked him Tuesday morning to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Several teams currently feel the urgency to free up space on their payroll in the run-up to the opening of the free-agent market on Wednesday, July 13.

Petry?

Interesting summer (s) Dorion had before this one. Paid to move Murray (not much mind you, but still), paying to get rid of MDZ, 2nd round pick for Stepan.

He's making up for it, but still. It's like...someone competent is running the team suddenly, I just don't get it.
My thoughts exactly. Either PD has unleashed the inner beast that was being held back by prior owner, or someone with actual street cred's in the background helping to set up the chess board. Whichever it is, I'm liking this and I almost expect that we're not done and that some sweet moves will be coming up soon.

I think we're actually gunning for the playoffs this year!

Can someone give me a little synopsis on Weeger? Why is he the one we want as opposed to the other options? His size is meh, history is meh beyond the last two seasons? Contract status is short. Are we sure he wasn't carried by an even better defensemen on his line? Or maybe by the three headed monster that was the Barkov line?

Basically what i'm asking, is he a safe bet to continue to be a top 4 dman that we sorely need?

More house cleaning. Another acquisition and contract that should not have happened in the bring in bodies and call them something else era.
Positive for the Sens moving forward

Coyotes fan proposal:

Brannstrom
Greig

P.S. glad to see that Dorion changed his prescription or started eating his Wheaties or whatever happened. Excited for you guys!
Remove Greig and I am tempted. With Greig involved, No!

Another prospect that this board was infatuated with is now gone in San Jose.
Balcers was a replacement-level player.

Stepan was a below replacement level player and Dorion traded a 2nd for him and put the better player on waivers.

Sharks foolishly buying out Balcers because Grier appears to be an old school hockey type doesn't change how stupid that move was.

Absolutely, we're all guilty of it. It's when people dwell on it for years to come, even after it has proven to be inconsequential, that it gets a little tiresome.

Maybe Ottawa will sign him for Belleville - then you get your Balcers back!!!

Stepan trade was awful but has very little to do with losing Balcers. Galchenyuk? Sure. But ultimately, still, pretty inconsequential.
What are your thoughts @Hale The Villain on the buyout of Dahlen and Balcers. You were upset we moved both those guys
No need to drag anyone over the coals & obviously theres is a difference over what they were then vs what they are now. There are/were very fair arguments that neither move was good asset management, but also fair to say that neither move was super consequential in the long run.

Dorion gave up a prospect we had just drafted in the 2nd for Burrows, gave him a 5M/2YR contract and then bought him out a year later

Dorion gave up a 2nd for Stepan, had to put Balcers on waivers due to a lack of forward spots, and it was an absolute flop.

Had less to do with Dahlen and Balcers being world beaters than terrible pro-scouting thinking Stepan and Burrows weren't finished.
