I've heard a few things about Brent Burns also.

Not sure he's really what we need.

In any event, 3 x 8M in cap hit but $16.5M in real dollars.

Burns could be a pretty good partner for Sanderson. I'd expect Sanderson to start off playing a safe, defensive minded game, and the offensive side will come later. His skating ability to to get the puck away from forwards could benefit Burns and Burns' size and the respect he commands could benefit Sanderson.

I think it's a pipe dream though. Odds are on Dallas.

So I’m out of the loop. I assume we are going to run our current goalie tandem? I looked at the free agents and yuck. I will say I’m not a big Kuemper guy. Seems like a lot of teams have extremely weak goaltending though.

No thanks on Burns.
Too much term and $$$ on that old beard. They'd have to really retain for us to entertain that

Rather Marino please and thanks. Cheaper younger less gross beard.

Personally I think Sanderson will be more reliable defensively than Brannstrom as a rookie.

Going over to the Sharks board, they've narrowed in on Ottawa as the perfect trade partner for Burns. Seems like it's not a question of if he's traded, but when. He's apparently already working with Grier on a move. If we could only get him to waive to come here... that'd be unreal.
Honestly, I could warm up to a trade for Burns for the right price, but I have my doubts we're on his 3 team ok list.

Stay far away from Burns, please. He'll burn the team with his age and contract.
His contract is really affordable, we probably have to do some due diligence to ensure the cap implications don't bite us down the road, but only 3 years remaining, I think he can be a serviceable top 4 D for that period.

We'd be paying him an average of $5.5M a season.

I doubt that - it’s a big ask. Branny has developed a lot since his u20 days … I’m not even sure Sanderson will outplay Lassi in the fall.

Sanderson will be a undersized/thin 3LD until he gets his legs under him. When he does, he should take off.

I agree that it's a lot to ask.

I guess my perspective is that Burns and Brannstrom may share many of the same strengths and the same weaknesses.

No thanks on Burns unless there is a ton of $$ retention from San Jose, he's old and his play has really deteriorated

Brucey is on it. Must be reading this board.

I get why Burns would target the Stars (he lives in Texas), but weird fit for them. They're a team that should care more about cap hit than salary. They already have almost $20M in cap space allocated to Seguin and Benn for at least the next 3 seasons.

Were really getting Giroux and Weegar aren't we
As a Florida fan, I don't see how Weegar is traded here: everyone is talking about next year's cap hell without noting that this is a year that Florida can compete well. Hornqvist will be off the books and it will be easier for us to move Bob next season.

The only way I see Weegar being moved is for some package for JC from Arizona (but I don't see how Ottawa pays for Weegar but not JC) or to move Bob
