To cup contend we would need to add a Cernak or Gudas or Severson and another insurance goalie like Quick or Andy (lol) at the TDL

On top of Giroux and Weegar that said

I don't think any additions could make us cup contenders. Adding Giroux and a top 4 D like Weegar would place us squarely in the wildcard mix. But to cup content, we need:

• Tim Stützle to cement himself as a point-per-game center
• Jake Sanderson to come in and have a Charlie McAvoy/Miro Heiskanen-type impact
• Josh Norris, Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson to repeat, or improve, on their seasons last year without injuries
• Shane Pinto to take hold of the 3rd line C role and be a poor-man's Cirelli
• Thomas Chabot to get back to being a 50+ point guy

Hard to top our 06-07 rosters tbh...
HOFer goalie, HOFers in Chara, Alfie, All stars in Heatley, Redden, Spezza, depth down the middle with Fisher, depth on Do with Phillips. On paper that WAS a cup contending team, so much so the media outside ottawa agreed
I liked the 2003 team just as much, maybe just a tad more. NJ Devils tripped us up, but I thought that team had the talent to go all the way.

ROFL. I should just be ok with giving up substantial assets to get out of an albatross contract Dorion signed him to and traded a second round pick for ?
Especially when buying him out is an option

Man how clueless and sad are you ? You showed me past posts of mine saying Murray is awful and his contract is terrible. I stand by those posts. You at no point hurt my feelings.

The post I made was if I should be happy about the potential deal or upset about the potential deal. The deal happened and I'm perfectly fine with it. I even @ you and said Pierre did good.
I bolded the part of your post that shows your reaction to something that hadn't even happened yet.

You guys spend so much of your time putting people down and when you're proven wrong about something you said you double down with childish insults. But I'm clueless and sad? Cool story bro.

Going over to the Sharks board, they've narrowed in on Ottawa as the perfect trade partner for Burns. Seems like it's not a question of if he's traded, but when. He's apparently already working with Grier on a move. If we could only get him to waive to come here... that'd be unreal.

I've heard a few things about Brent Burns also.

Not sure he's really what we need.

In any event, 3 x 8M in cap hit but $16.5M in real dollars.

We sign Giroux and maybe Burns considers us a potential contender and decides to waive his NMC.

Only makes 13M over the remaining 3 years of his deal. He's already 37 so there's going to be a decline in his game, so I wouldn't want to give up any kind of decent asset to add him, but it could make sense.

You originally quoted the post where I asked Benji if I should be happy or upset with the incoming trade. Now you are quoting my post that was in response to your original post out of context obviously, man you are hilarious. Bro seriously just take your L on this one.

One Sharks fan proposed Brown + Zaitsev and a 3rd. That one shocked me. Maybe Burns sucks now...
Might as well add MDZ ;)

burns fits if they retain a lot on that cap hit
Even at 25% retained, Burns at 6M fits pretty well as our veteran 2nd pairing guy to go with Sanderson. The prblem with Burns is that defensively, he's not what we need. He's basically an elite offensive dman turning into PPQB, because old, and slow.

I don't know how we get rid of Zaitsev though

At least with Arizona it would make sense he goes back for Chychrun
