So, I'm going to admit my complete ignorance on Chychrun.

Be honest:

1. Is he generating so much interest because defencemen are always in demand and he happens to be the best one available right now? I remember Darius Kasparitis and Bobby Holik earning massive contracts because they were the biggest names on the list at the time.

2. Or is he the legitimate article? I hear "top four defenceman" but then I see the kind of packages put together that I think should bring back a legitimate top pairing guy.

3. Icetime-wise, at ~23 minutes, that could be a lower end top pairing guy - but on Arizona he probably has less competition. That's good for 36th (T) in the league or so. That gives me a fair amount of confidence.

4. He has a plus minus of -20, which is 3rd worst on the team, but he played more minutes than the others in the vicinity and the team was not very good.

5. I hear smooth-skating but defensively sound. Offensively, he's sort of middling, but I'd say second pairing numbers. (61st in P/G)

I can't pretend to have seen him or remembered seeing him play.

Best comparison I’d have is Marc Methot who can put up 10 goals and 35-40 points.

I'd much rather have Weegar than Giroux. Both would be ideal.

I think if you’re in Sens marketing or sales you’re probably salivating at the idea of Giroux signing for more than just what he’ll do on the ice. One of the top NHL stars of the last decade coming to play for his honetown is good business.

He is a 2nd tier top pairing guy or a high end 2nd pair. Solid defensively, doesn’t get pushed around, offensive is streaky but he has a cannon which we are severely lacking on the PP.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the Panthers take a bigger swing than Giroux if they clear space. Like Malkin. Russians love South Beach.

They need to clear a lot of cap space to sign Giroux, Malkin or anyone else.

I mean, to me he was always a possibility no? I was a lot more impressed with getting DeBrinkat, and I'd be more surprised if we managed to get either Chychrun or Weegar tbh.

Not to say it wouldn't still be amazing to get Giroux, but it wouldn't stun me or anything if he was a Senator this time Wednesday, especially with all the positive news surrounding the org these days.

The fact that G is still on the table even after getting DeBrincat, I think, is what's especially surprising. I'd figured the ship had sailed once we went in on Brink.

I wonder if the Sens target him on top of whatever top 4 d they have been targeting.

It’s a good proposal, I think it’s fair. Not sure I do it though, it’s a lot to give up for a team that hasn’t made the playoffs yet, and probably wouldn’t have the cap space to keep him down the road. Feel like it’d make more sense for a team contending now, though Chychrun obviously gets us closer.

Does Chychrun play RD? I keep seeing mixed info about that so I’m curious.
