I mean he did trade assets for Murray and had to give assets to get rid of him and retain. Lets get some perspective here.
True, but there are a couple of encouraging things here:

1) He recognized a mistake and fixed it without making a worse mistake
2) No roster players to sweeten a deal
3) No cap dumps or plugs coming back

All things considered, idk if he could have done much better to sort this out.

Dorion turned the combined 11m caphit of White and Murray into 2.45m obviously because Murray back loaded contract it will eat a little bit more of our internal budget but still amazing. Obviously dorion put himself into these situations but I am happy to see him grow a little here and find ways out of these contracts similar to how he got out of Daddanov
Absolutely a growth moment for PD, nice to see

They have a back up goalie. Gustavsson is good just needs reps and not to be sent up and down like a yo yo and play in front of a terrible D core. Murray was a big reason why he had a tough year I think. No continuity. He moves very very well.

I am a big fan of Gustavsson, I believe he has a lot of talent for a goaltender. One thing that makes me nervous is when he doesn't have confidence it can take extra time for him to find his game. I'm not sure the club has time to let him play through those struggles anymore. That said, the point of him going up and down could be a factor during previous seasons. I'm torn because I want him to reach his potential in Ottawa but I don't think they have enough wiggle room if he struggles out of the gate. A contingency plan would be nice, That could be Sogaard but I'm not sure you want to put him in the same situation Gustavsson was last season.

Could have been worse. He created a mess and he cleaned it up pretty cheaply all in all. Still paying 25% but he wasn't going to get less than that.
Now he has a couple other messes to clean up

Hey sens fans, coyotes fan coming in peace. A guy from Hockeybuzz Kevin Francis tweeted a rumor that the sens are trying to trade for chychrun. Would include a 23 1st, JBD, Sokolov, Brown and Zaitsev

Is that guy for real or is he full of shit? It sounds a little steep for you guys.

He is a young goalie put in an impossible position. He was the best of the three of them at the start when Ottawa was the worst team in the NHL. He barely got to play when they turned it around.

I think adding at least one solid defensive defenseman on our blueline would go a long way to resolving that situation. We gave up one hell of a lot of high quality scoring chances last season.

I still think Malkin is going to return to Pittsburgh. One side is going to blink first and they'll get it done. Seems like both sides are just being stubborn, when they see the grass isn't greener on the other side they'll get it done.

And I think it's Hextall that is going to give him his 4th year. But one way or another, if Malkin leaves they'll have to replace him, so they are going to spend anyways. Marino isn't out of the cards yet imo

Kevin is full of shit

he's the kinda guy who brags about his girlfriend but then always mentions "she goes to another school"

in saying that though, Ottawa is still in on Chychrun according to CJ and Dreger

A dozen ways it could have been worse, not many that are better unless we rewrite history... I'll take it!

A first, 2B prospects, a cap dump and a trade deadline chip for Chych. Sign me up.

Gotcha, just checking because following chychrun trade rumors has been driving us mad and this guy’s tweet seemed to gain a little traction.

Hope you guys make a good jump next season!

Dorion might screw things up, but he seems much better at fixing some mistakes.

If he can get a decent backup goalie, turn Zaitsev+ Brown into a a respectable RHD, sign the RFAs, and sign Giroux, I promise to delete 80% of the things I said about him.
