We don't need to trade Murray, Leafs need Murray.

We should not retain a single dollar unless they send us a nice asset.

We are not in a cap crunch and have to unload him. We can carry 3 goalies or send him to the AHL.

We also could buy him out during second buyout window and not pay the Leafs to take him.after Leafs overpay for the leftover goalies.

If we are serious about the playoffs we don't need to pay a division rival to take on Murray.

Worse comes to worse we keep him just in case of injuries.

I am not going to help the Leafs unless they want pay, Murray still has value and I know is hard to see and I want him gone as bad as anyone but not passing him to division rival and pay them for it.

Dorion needs to win this trade and fleece the Leafs!

I think a deal with Murray and Zaitsev to Arizona. After Arizona ship Murray to Toronto could be a possibility

Well that Tavares kid is making 11M.

Murray + Zaitsev for Tavares ???

10.75 AAV vs 11.0 AAV

Everyone is happy :sarcasm:

Well aware it may be an overpayment. But, our window with all these high end pieces is limited and I am willing to go all in for a thing we have never seen in Ottawa, and this would do it. :stanley::stanley::stanley::stanley::stanley:

I understand the sentiment but we most likely don't win the Cup this year even with Kane and Murphy (minus Formenton and Brannstrom)

Also, wait to see Greig as a regular NHLer, I doubt you'd be wanting to trade him anymore

I said it before but I genuinely don't see why we even traded for Hamonic if we would be looking for a top4 D this summer.

Do you see why we signed Del Zotto? I still don't

Muzzin and Brodie at $5.6 and $5.0 respectively are not the Dmen they were when the contracts were signed.

Brodie is still very good and only has 2 years left. He would actually be the exact D-man we'd need to acquire. A great veteran RHD buying us 2 years for JBD and/or Thomson to become a Top-4 D

Matt Murray + Alex Formenton + Erik Brannstrom (then traded to Seattle for example for their 2nd round pick)

for

TJ Brodie + Pierre Engvall

With Liljegren and Sandin coming into their own, maybe the Leafs could afford this. Brodie has a 10 teams NTC though but maybe he would consider...

We have 76M in real dollars apparently.

59M so far on 8 Fs 7 D and 2 goalies

Add Norris, Formenton, Joseph 9M.

Add Kastelic 1M

Add Giroux 7M

That’s 76M with 13Fs

Remove Zaitsev -2.5M

Add Marino 3.5M

Add Thomson, JBD or Brannstrom 1M

That’s 78M 13Fs 8D

Add Gus 1M

Remove Murray (buyout if necessary) - 4.5M

That’s 75.5M

Tkachuk Norris Batherson
Debrincat Stu Giroux
Formenton Pinto Brown
Joseph Kastelic Watson
Gambrel

Chabot Zub
Sanderson Marino
Holden Hamonic
Brannstrom
Del Zotto

Forsberg
Gus

Likely lose a player or 2 to acquire Marino so costs go down as Kelly would be up with the team.
Brown is gone as well, third line is Formy Pinto Joseph.

Cash is less…

Win

Lol ya I feel bad. I hope everyone knows I want to like their comments but I can't atm. If I post like or ask people to like them for me too often well that got me banned from here for 3 months last year. SO EVERYONE I LIKE YOUR POSTS AND IM SORRY I CANT LIKE THEM !!!!
Oh behaaave….

It's so obvious Dorion should just eat a chunk of Murray's contract, ship him to TO and call it a damn day, but Mr. 4D chess is probably slowing the deal down by seeing how he can f*** it up by adding assets on his side.
Still at it I see…. ;)

I went absolutely nuts when we got DeBrincat.

I don't know my reaction if we get Giroux. One of my fav players ever and still an elite talent as we saw from stint in FLA and playoffs. Embodies the game we want to play and mentorship for everyone.

No brainer to make this happen.

Matt Murray is as good as gone. Worst case we buy him out and save 10 million in cash next 2 years and 5 million total.

Pls no.

I can totally see it now... We finally make the playoff this season, meet Toronto in the first round, Murray stonewalls us, and the Leafs go on win the cup....

Murray don’t do Stonewalls, Murray do Stoneholes

I wonder if trading Murray is a priority because that's the money they would like to free up to pay Giroux (or for a RD)? So, in essence, getting Giroux requires moving Murray and his salary.
This and I think he want to remove Murray to can try to go after Kuemper

Na… that isn’t “so obvious”. He don’t really have an idea what the parameters were to increase the budget to pay for Cat. He’s influenced by that decesion where most fans just want to maximize asset value (other then cash).

I think it's a priority because we've decided to buy him out, and that puts a deadline on finding a better alternative.

Likely - it may also involve moving an asset that costs significant dollars but plays lower in the lineup … like Formenton or Brown. DJ loves brown …

That could be another event that is driving this as well.

Having said that, I'm still looking to the money side of things as being a prime factor for almost everything that happens.

Its the same for all teams, but for different reasons. Many teams have to stay under the maximum cap allowed by the league. Others, like us, have a self-imposed team cap. As they say, money is the root of all ......

Hockey Buzz throws shit at the wall and hopes it sticks. Would take anything they post with a grain of salt. Also, Kevin Francis has a bot username on Twitter, doesn't exactly scream professional.

Ya, I’m not a Francis fan… but he’s pretty spot on most his calls in that article.

Player coach issues aren’t going to be discussed with the local media or Freidman here -
