I read all this stuff and I keep coming back to the same question. Why are the Leafs interested in Murray? They obviously don’t look at him like 90% of the people in the Sens board. I guess they want him to play for them. And I’m also guessing they think he can get his game back to a high level. But they also want to minimize their risk by paying him less. Since it’s only money and they seem to have lots of it, they can send him to the AHL if he doesn’t work out. But if he is healthy and gets his mojo back ( you know, what the Sens thought he would do) then they got themselves a playoff experienced goalie with 2 rings entering my his prime years.
I wouldn’t bet on it myself, but if that’s what they think, I would not be adding any sweeteners at all at this stage, never mind solid NHL players like Formenton or Brown or top prospects.
Leafs need a goalie. Cheap.
Sens have one to spare.
Don’t sweeten with retained salary without getting something of value back.
PD has to enter these talks like he’s doing them a favor, not the other way around.
