Presumably DJ has and the player hasn’t committed to change which has lead to his rumoured displeasure with Formy’s game.

I don't think anyone has soured on him at all but it might be a good time to move the player if it helps you achieve other plans. If the team is after a player like Giroux and you have Tkachuk/Debrincat down the left side, Formenton becomes more expendable. He's going to be limited to that third line with a player like Ridly Greig nipping at his heels.

Kerfoot has positive value.

1.5 in salary for a 50 point scorer.

Holl isn’t impossible to move either since he is a right shot making only 2M.

Other than Mrazek - the Leafs didn’t have a bad contract on their books.

It’s going to hurt to move Murray.

Yeah, no chance Kerfoot or Holl are traded as camp dumps. Holl could return at least a 4th, if not more, and Kerfoot at least a 3rd but most likely more.

Where is this rumour that DJ is unhappy with Formenton coming from? His icetime progressed as the season went on, not really seeing the usual signs of a player not being liked by the coach.
It's coming from the guy you're asking the question of!
where is this from?

I would lmao if we traded Murray to the Leafs and he was injured all the time and the Leafs had to play their backup goalie for most of the season.

Mrazek @ 3.8M (zero retention) only cost moving down about 12 spots in the draft from 26 to 38, which is probably around a 2nd in value.

If we're retaining anything significant on Murray it certainly shouldn't cost us a good young player like Formenton or Greig to get rid of him. Maybe a 2nd/3rd.

If the goal is to cut salary to open up room to sign Giroux and add a good D, we should trade Hamonic before wasting assets to get rid of Murray, Zaitsev and MDZ. 3.25M in salary and if we add a decent D via trade he'll be our 6th defenseman and would probably push Brannstrom out of the lineup. Trading for him was so stupid.
If Hamonic pushes Brannstrom out of the lineup and keeps JBD and Thomson in the AHL that’s awesome.

Buying out Murray and trading Brown still gives us enough space to sign the RFA’s, Giroux, a top 4 d-man while staying under a 70 mil budget.

If the 75 mil payroll rumour being thrown around is true I don’t see why we’s be under much pressure, unless we plan to go on shopping spree on Wednesday.
Buying out Murray gives the Leafs the opportunity to sign him for peanuts so they do have a little leverage. It would be funny if we put him on waivers to buy him out and Buffalo claimed him.

Sweatred

with all this goalie talk should we target talbot . he is unhappy that they signed flower
Ya this is something I'd do, I suggested Reimer both he and Talbot have 1 year. I'm not sure if Talbot wants out cause he wants to be the guy and if he'd be happy here being a 1a 1b with Forsberg. I feel like we owe Forsberg a shot at being a starter he has been great for us.

Well that Tavares kid is making 11M.

Assuming Joseph elects for arbitration, Ottawa will have a second buyout window starting July 17th.

I said it before but I genuinely don't see why we even traded for Hamonic if we would be looking for a top4 D this summer.

Well that's debatable. Tavares at $11 million is about $3-$4 million overpaid for what he brings. And they have that for 3 more years. Also Muzzin and Brodie at $5.6 and $5.0 respectively are not the Dmen they were when the contracts were signed. But the biggest contact issue with the Leafs is that Matthews has only 2 more years to go until he is a free agent.

It would seem something may have changed between then and now.

Brodie has been great for them.

Why are we trading Murray?

Toss him in the kitchen with a pile of frozen chicken or something and let nature take care of itself. Dude sneezes the wrong way and gets put on the LTIR. And even if we do trade him, we don't need to bring in another goalie. (Especially Kuemper...we has horrible during a big chunk of the playoffs.)

And why would we even entertain 'helping' the laffs?

Brodie has been great for them.

Would have been an ideal pickup for us and he makes as much as Hamonic and Del Zotto combined.

Naturally it's impossible to say if he would have come here but a little foresight could have prevented so many salary problems.

I’m scared about this deal because if it’s awful then I’m going to be even more scared about any deal coming after it.

Colin White is gone.

He needs another marginal player to hate on.

With how much we want to move him, odds are decent his contract isn't insured and we have to pay him in full even on LTIR.
