I dunno I think the guys pushing Gauthier and Brassard out of the lineup are probably Brown and Kelly, who probably shouldn't be.

I know he scored last night but I'm not sure why we even acquired Brown. He's the definition of replacement level.

If we had to trade a pick to add offensive depth it shouldn't been for a decent bottom 6er like Sundqvist that could push Gambrell out of the lineup and potentially replace Joseph at RW next season at a cheaper salary.
Brown is a face off specialist as good as Giroux I believe.

Kelly has been pretty useless. As a guy that was said to be a pest he really isn’t that at all.

He’s a JAG
He’s one of those guys that looks good as an AHL call-up because he is finishing every check and racing to the puck on the forecheck trying to earn a spot on the big team.

Then that 1-way contract hits and he slows down a bit to not injure himself, so now Kelly’s just kind of out there, flubbing pucks and taking o-zone penalties because he doesn’t have NHL speed. 4 points in 54 games, embarrassing that he’s played that many tbh

Parker Kelly sucks, ass does Auston Watson. In terms of suckerage, PK is even more useless.

Injuries resorted this team to starting young AHLers as starters towards a playoff push (uphill battle), we really need strong performances from the bottom 6 which lacks quality.

At least MJ looks good nowadays. All of a sudden it looks like he cares. He has had that taste before in Tampa.

I have pretty low expectations for a good 4th line shift:

1. Get the puck out of the zone.

2. Don’t take a penalty, but especially an offensive zone penalty.

3. Get an offensive zone face off.

4. Draw a penalty.

That’s it.

If you can do it with energy or hitting a few guys, great.

They wanted a centre, 67% on draws last night I think.

I'd have preferred a center that could be shifted to 3rd line RW if we manage to dump Joseph (should be a priority this off-season).

Brown should not be playing anywhere above the 4th line. Neither should Gambrell, Kelly, Gauthier, Kastelic or Watson for that matter.

Sundqvist would have been an excellent pickup. 28YR old 6'3, 208lb two-way C/RW that can put up 30-40P a year.

What are you expecting from a pest, among players with 300+ mins 5v5 hes 22nd in the league in penalties drawn per 60 mins and 6th in hits/60.

This hasn't been a great year for him, he's taking too many undisciplined penalties himself and hasn't chipped in as much offensively, but I find the critique of him as a pest somewhat odd, he's still getting under the oppositions skin.

Probably just to free up contract spots for Klevin, a couple UDFAs, etc.
Given that we had to give up Gustavsson to get Talbot and Talbot is injured, I wonder if we'd have interest in a ND - UFA like Ostman. Next year we'd likely be running with Sogaard and Forsberg but we have no cap space for a FA, which makes things dicey.

An undrafted free agent that could both play in the minors next season and be a viable injury backup would be pretty great. Normally the guys in the minors aren't experienced enough to be a backup plan if Forsberg or Sogaard get injured or struggle for a full season. Merilainen is great and all, but you need a ton of goalie depth due to injuries. Plus, an undrafted FA could play in Ottawa THIS season while Talbot is injured (which would also burn off a season on their future free agency).

Depending on whether details about alleged respective roles in the incident emerge, you could be right.

It's been discussed to death, but this is because there are merits to both sides of the equation.

Part of living under the rule of law is that we require courts and the rational review of evidence in order to punish individuals for crimes in our community.

While not guilty does not mean that you are innocent, it does mean that being charged with something shouldn't necessarily equate to losing your livelihood or being treated as guilty.

On the other hand, in a lot of these cases, where there isn't necessarily any physical evidence, it relies a lot on testimony and he said/she said situations do not necessarily result in adequate justice for legitimate victims.

There's no real right answer here, but what I do know, is that if Formenton does suit up as a Senator, there will be a vocal contingent of people who will demand that he never play hockey again.

These are the times we live in.

I don't envy the organization having to stick handle this situation.
I would just add that we’re aren’t really even looking at perhaps not being able to convict.

At this point there have been no changes laid, and no official accused at all.

If SJW’s are able to gain traction with this level of evidence, we’re in bad shape.

He is getting under the fans skin more then the opponents this year.

I would like to see Formenton back in Ottawa he would really improve our top 9, but what this org will do is another question. Formenton is clearly better than everyone in our bottom six right now & would improve the team. Formenton & Norris could be the start of another good line, Ottawa's PP has missed Norris shot from the right side.

They would just need to find another RW who can score & make plays & of everyone in their org at the moment I only see Sokolov capable of doing that at RW. Joseph plays RW as does Gauthier, but neither one brings enough offence, neither does Gambrell, Kelly or Watson but they all skate fast. Brassard still has some offence, but he's 35 yrs old & I doubt he returns. The other option would be to trade for an offensive RW who doesn't cost too much & fits in their budget.

I would add:
1. Score goals at the same or better rate then your opposition when you are on the ice.
2. Play solid defensively to minimize high risk shots on net
3. Contain a big tough physical player who can perform the policeman role when required.

Getting Norris back will be gigantic.
Getting Formenton back would be really big (young, speedy, pest, can score, can PK).

But we could definitely use 1-2 high character depth forwards who we could use on the PK. (yeah yeah.. Nick Paul & Connor Brown). They don't need to be excellent, just steady and competent.

Who will be some affordable FA options this summer?

anything is possible under new ownership and probably new management. If formenton is not convicted of anything there could still be bad blood between him and management with him pretty much sitting out.

Under new ownership though a lot of that bad blood should be gone. Alternatively he might want to play for a quieter market

Hopefully if he did no wrong doing he is back as we really need him

Why didn’t he take the QO. Maybe he wanted security in case he was found guilty. But if he was you would think the league would void the contract? I dono

It was a ridiculous offer wrt his production and value shown the previous year. It was an offer made to refuse and it played into the Sens hands to leave him where he is. I just think they didn't want the risk of bad news coming out re Forms. He takes that offer and the Sens do what? Bring him in. That decision was not about a million bucks.. It would have been interesting if he signed.

Yeah. I’m on their side on this one.

Not sure how he ever comes back with Dorion as GM

I don’t think there is any issue between Formys team and the Sens. Neither said said a single word besides saying negations were ongoing. Nothing negative, no frustration from the agent.

The NHL was running the entire show at that point with their internal investigation. No one was allowed to say anything, and I bet it was agreed that Formy going over seas for a year while it all unfolded was best for everyone.

The QO was just to retain rights.

If nothing comes of this then he’ll be back In the NHL, and I’m not convinced that it won’t be with us.

Yah if he signs though where does he end up? Does Dorion do a Hoffman type trade? Does he start in Belleville? Hockey wise he would have been a big help this year.
Could Honeslty be a nice little trade piece. If all is good off the ice some team may give two solid cheap bottom sixers.

I don’t know how we will afford him

Any college “free wallets” the Sens could be looking at?

We were all over those under Murray but it seems to have dried up. Was the last one Verroneau?

I’d imagine a forward would see Gambrell, Kelly and Watson in the lineup, combined with the relatively sparse prospect pool and think they’d have a decent path to the bigs.

Was there’s anything more overhyped in this markets then the Sens College free agent run under Murray - like every single player was the next great thing and except Jesse Winchester they all sucked despite’s the the headlines were like “Sens sign goalie of the future”
