I thought the same about Hyman as most do with Bunting, but he's really important to Edmonton and has more than earned his contract so far. He's proven me wrong.

Not quite the sample size with Bunting, but comparable numbers and play style.

I still probably wouldn't take the risk, but I'd at least think twice if he's interested.

Bunting has shit for brains though. Hyman just appeared really overpaid for what he brought - until he wasn't.

Ya and that's where I have a hard time going any further with it. The comparable to Hyman makes me pause, because I've really liked him in Edmonton, but I don't really watch the Leafs, so I am basing it off of very little beyond the similar style and scenario.

No comparison IMO.

So did Kadri until he didn’t and got a Stanley Cup. If you have the coaching/culture to reign him in he’s going to be fine. I’d understand if you made the argument he’s not the right fit for the Senators for this reason, but he wouldn’t be the first guy who didn’t know how to straddle the line who changed his ways.

I hear you, but not worth the $$ he's going to want or the pain in the ass IMO.

We could get double retention on Karl if Dorion can get creative with a third team involved.
We desperately need Alfie to get that position and talk to him, then have Karlsson ask for a trade to Ottawa - and just Ottawa. Would grease the rails something fierce.

I think SJ should be interested in Chabot. They are rebuilding, but a lot of their young players like Eklund and Bordeleau will be playing in the league so they should try to be a little competitive. And they will most likely get Michkov and if not him it's Smith so they will have the high end forward skill coming in so tanking to secure a top talent isn't as urgent anymore.

If they get Chabot, he is young enough that when a Michkov and their other prospects are stepping in, Chabot can still be a part of their core while providing some experience.

Theoretically we could acquire both Erik and Saros and make a under the cap 22 man roster, tricky but possible.

San Jose retains 2 million on Erik and takes Chabot, Joseph, ‘25 1st & Nashville retains 1 million on Saros for an extended DeBrincat.

Toronto buys out Matt Murray saving us 1.3 million. Re-sign Pinto for 2 years at 1.95 and Brannstrom for 2 years at 1.5.

Sign an older middle six winger in free agency for 3.5 million with term (Tatar or Killorn would be my vote) and find two bottom six wingers with face off experience for 3.9 million in total. (Namestnikov, Heinen, Donato, Sheary, etc.) Bring back Hamonic for 2 years at 1.1.

Would look something like;

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
Tatar - Norris - Batherson
Grieg - Pinto - Sheary
Kelly - Kastelic - Heinen
Smejkal

Sanderson - Karlsson
Chychrun - Zub
Brannstrom- Hamonic
JBD

Saros
Forsberg

Pipe dream? No - I hit the bong.

That would be a small soft lineup. It would need more size and physicality, especially in the playoffs.

The Karlsson dream was dead soon as we picked up Chych. I don't get why people are still talking about him as a possibility. It doesn't work cap wise, as we have to resign Sanderson and Chych very soon. All of our cap will be tied up in the defence. It doesn't work as team style and fit since we already have 3 players in the top 4 who are a similar players (Chabot, Sanderson, Chych).

Karlsson won't be traded this summer. San Jose will want to trade him but he will not be traded.

From 2018-2022:
211GP
27G, 115A, 142P
-41
0.67p/g
53GP average per season

Then 2022-23:
82GP
101P
25G, 76A
-26
1.23 p/g

Why would anyone trade for him now? Even with retention. First fully healthy season since 2015-16, first ppg+ season since 2015-16, first 20G+ season since 2014-15, career high in goals in a single season, career high in assists in a single season, career high in points in a single season.

I know this is a what have you done for me lately league but I'm willing to bet he's going to be a lot closer to 2018-2022 Karlsson than 2022-23 Karlsson. And there's just no way you can make a trade work, for a defenseman of that kind, with the kind of AAV he has.

It's just a dream to think of him feeding Stu and Chuck and Giroux and Batherson and Norris etc etc etc.

It's not going to happen, but imagine...

We are going to have to be much better at team D if we want to have any success. That's probably not as popular or sexy of a topic as scoring, but hopefully our management team are very focused on this. There is no way of being successful if you're allowing more goals than you score.

Marek is saying Debincrat is likely going to Detroit.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kubalik and the 17th overall are coming back as part of the package.

Hyman is a far more cerebral player.

Kubalik is really not that interesting imo. I'd take him if its necessary for salary but dont see him as holding much value.

Dunno I like Kubalik at 2.5 mil honestly, should be good for at least 15-20 goals, incredibly good value and gives you the flexibility to add solid depth.

I also really like the idea of Comtois for Thomson. Comtois is a rugged guy that had decent upside but could use a change scenery, Ana could use a young RHD with upside that can step right in and make mistakes while they work through it.

I could see Dorion accepting two of Detroit's 2nds instead of the 17th OVR.

Frankly a lot of the player types that the Sens scouting staff typically goes for should be available around picks 42/43/44, which is where those 2nds fall.

Would definitely need Berggren to come along with those 2nds though, otherwise that's robbery.
