Would think they will be adding a Center, rather than a winger, if they’re clearing room for somebody.

They use Duchene strictly as a winger, and are currently rocking a Center lineup of:

Cody Glass
Colton Scissons
Thomas Novak
Mark Janakowsi

They have Duchene, Forsberg, Tomosino, Evangelista, and Parssinen looking for spots in the top 6 next year.

Could absolutely make a play for DBC, but I’d think they will be looking at a guy down the middle if they’re looking to retool.

That we know.. but this is giving him away at 1/2 price literally.

Some hopefuls speculating this clears the path to acquire DeBrincat. The really hopefuls are saying for Saros.

But the return is just .. get him out of here.... Not even a 7th round pick .. weird.
I guess you don't really clear cap like that if you're not planning some followup moves? They also have 7 additional picks in the first 3 rounds over the next 3 years. So they have a lot of draft capital to maneuver with.

Saving 8 million bucks is a win, even with nothing back.

Nobody was talking Johansen at that contract. 50% teams were willing to take it without sending cap or money back. That’s about it.

Very few teams likely wanted to take a chance on a 31 year old, who was already slowing down, coming off a ruptured Achilles tendon.

I actually thought RyJo at 66% or so could make sense in a return for Cat. Kinda surprised they felt they had to give him away for free at 50%
What else do we get though? I like what Colorado did, but if it's DBC, it has to make sense for us - and I doubt Nashville is excited about that prospect.

From The Athletic trade board article:

The list of preferred destinations Alex DeBrincat (No. 2 on the trade board) gave the Senators has expanded in the past week as more teams are getting involved in trade talks. It’s believed Detroit, Dallas, Vegas and Nashville were on the initial list

Wonder who else got added to the list.

I wonder about Washington. Could be a fit there, especially since it has been said Dorion doesn't seem to mind if a 1st is in 2024 and isn't demanding a 2023 1st.
I thought that too. That and NYR are 2 teams I would expect to at least poke around a bit. Especially NY, because they always do.

Teams I could see being interested..

Carolina
Columbus
NYI
Seattle
Pittsburgh
St-Louis
Washington

I think a few of those teams I could see DBC interested in. The Rangers also have the pieces to make this trade happen quite easily.

That there has to be a heck of a plus along with RJO - which makes little sense for Nashville.
Why is that? That only really makes sense to me if you think Nashville wouldnt have interest in Debrincat to start with, which is a whole other story.

They just traded RyJo at 50% for zero value, so I assume that any package involving RyJo to us at 66% would be better value than trading RyJo to Colorado + trading whatever "positive assets" they are willing to trade to us for Cat.

Hopefully the Blues, they have some nice prospects that I would love (but not expecting) Dorion to pull off.

Maybe Neighbours + one of their late 1sts.

Not sure if DeBrincat would re-sign in St. Louis though, and I don't know why Armstrong's focus seems to be on acquiring another top 6 scorer with how poor the Blues' future is on D. They should be trying to get someone like Hanifin IMO.

If it helped facilitate a deal we should absolutely take on Scandella's final year, even if there's not really a spot for him.

Wonder if the preds are gonna add Karlsson…lots of cap space and if they absorb the full bit, probably get him for much cheaper too

Maybe you're right. I think they might be at a place where they're not gonna be very good for a while, but then again, we've seen re-tools with lesser talent than they have.

Plus, my buddy just texted me thinking it might be a fit - and he's usually pretty astute.

Who on NYR? Lafrenniere?

Is he though? From what I have read he’s pretty slow now.
Toffoli is too old. I want a younger player or a high draft pick.

I see where you're coming from but, as you said, they do have some talent. I also just dont know if its in Pred DNA to do a full rebuild. They are always competitive and I think that's a big part of their identity.
