Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | 4 Nations Break Edition

I'd be extremely surprised if the Canucks spend any type of premium asset (i.e. 2025 1st rounder) on a winger. I could see them doing another double move, however, and flipping whatever the return on Boeser is for a replacement winger if they end up moving him.

I think they'd move quite a bit for the right centre.
I've seen mentioned a few times that the 2025 draft is not particularly strong after the first dozen or so picks. Perhaps someone more well versed in the upcoming draft class can comment on that.

If it is true—I think we'll see the Canucks and a lot of other teams move their 1sts this year.

It's been reported a bunch that the Canucks are really trying not to move their 1st round pick, I'd suspect it would have to be a pretty specific deal (i.e. a top-six centre, preferably right-handed) for them to do so.

All of that is to say, I don't think there was any issue with McCann in Vancouver other than Benning being Benning and just shitting away assets for garbage.

EDIT: I'm giving myself a gold star, it was in fact Andrey Pedan who had an issue with McCann. Interestingly, the article also has a quote from Matt Bartkowski's Mom, and it begged the question - McCann or Virtanen?

Oh ye of little faith from 2014, little did you know~

Cap space is not important now but it will be next year. Just like every year when we run out. Some people continually underestimate that imo. To be honest now is uncertain and not worth wasting money on. Several posters have done up the projections for next year and we are tight as heck like usual. If we want to upgrade some type of tweener has to go or we just roll out the same team again. I know I don't want that. Hogs is the logical guy to upgrade on as he doesn't even have a defined role on the team and makes more money than he returns.

Trying to force Hogs into providing utility at the cost of a desirable addition just feels like a waste of effort and cap space. I would trade him for cap space, a roster spot, and whatever we get back. I couldn't care less if we don't get much, a second or third would be awesome. I would have traded him before the extension too.
We hear lots of optimism about the cap here. Take a step back.

If we sign Boeser, probably about $2M more. OEL goes up by $2.4M. Hoglander goes up $1.9M. MPs goes up by $1.5M. And we have advocates of signing Lankonin up to $5M. Great the cap is going up. we have at least an increase of $8m if we ignore needing a goalie. but if we keep our core and the group listed above, we are looking again at being in Cap trouble.

You don’t extend Lank if it’s more than 3.5M. Also probably not a good idea to extend Boeser at 8.5M especially when he’s probably asking for like 7 year term.

Wonder if the canucks would trade Boeser for assets, then acquire Lindholm from Boston with assets coming from Boston (2026 2nd?). That short term solves a winger replacement and gives flexibility at C.

Spend those assets this/next year to acquire youth.

Lindholm is now a negative value contract.
For sure. That's I why think it's Lindholm+ for nothing (do we have a bad contract to dump?). Gives you Boeser assets, Lindholm trade assets, and existing assets to acquire youth.

Huge lack of quality UFA centers in the upcoming years, only Hughes needing major raise I think, Chytil risk, etc. Risky move for sure though.

Maybe save space for McDavid???

Exactly. So $9.5mil at least with a good and necessary backup goalie ($3) with a projected cap increase of $7.5 ($5.5 dead cap). Basically no cap above replacement level coming off the books besides Boeser. Do some tinkering around Suter, Hoglander, and Soucy and we basically bring back the same median team with little cap space to do anything constructive after that. It's definitely not as rosy as some are claiming.

If we don't re-sign Boeser that money will be needed for 2 lesser players or a bigger swing and big $$ to replace his production, unless Lekkerimaki is ready to play a whole season. That's completely unknown at this point.

I know Petey off the block and all but I wanna build a contender with the best D core in the league.

Bo Horvat, Noah Dobson and Future Considerations
For
Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander

- a little early for the T.Linden arc but Bo gives us a quality faceoff winning top 6 centerman for the forseeable future.

Joel Armia, Christian Dvorak, David Reinbacher and Future Considerations
For
Noah Dobson

- after 3 years of calling around for defenseman we now we have dpetey, kudryatsev, mynio, willander and reinbacher in the pipeline and refuse to include them in any and all trade proposals.

Debrusk - Horvat - Armia
Oconnor - Chytil - Boeser
Joshua - Dvorak - Garland
Suter - Blueger - Sherwood

Hughes - Hronek
Pettersson - Myers
Pettersson - Willander

Lankinen, Demko

Resign Boeser 8 x7
Resign Oconnor 3 x3
Resign Suter 3 x3
Resign Lankinen 5 x4

Offseason, dont sign anyone new. Instead cash in those two FC's above.

Jp Pageau retained to 3,000,000 for a 7th

Josh Anderson retained to 2,750,000 for a 7th

Let Dvorak and Armia walk. Pageau and Anderson take their spots.

Final trade becomes;

Pettersson, Hoglander, 7th, 7th
For
Horvat, Anderson, Pageau, Reinbacher

Plus the services of Armia and Dvorak for a playoff run.

Seems like not enough for a 100 point centerman and a former 24 goal man but fills out the 12 man forward group nicely without needing to rush Lekkerimaki while stashing Reinbacher away on D.

Just a team of double digit goal scorers just roll the forwards 1-2-3-4 willie D style.

Debrusk - Horvat - Anderson
Oconnor - Chytil - Boeser
Joshua - Pageau - Garland
Suter - Blueger - Sherwood

x Raty, Lekkerimaki

The f*** is this

If a deal is not in place with Boeser by the TDL, you only keep him as a "rental" if:
  • EP reverts to 100pt EP after the 4 Nations
  • Hughes heals enough for the home stretch and playoffs
If one or both of these are off the table, you have to deal Brock.

Not getting any assets for a legit Top 6 F who is a pending UFA is idiotic.
1st one.. highly unlikely.. he needs a full offseason to do some training and healing. 2nd one maybe. but still trade boeser anyways. dont want him to go to ufa and lose him for nothing.
