Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | 4 Nations Break Edition

Tuch would look great on this team, but only one year left until he's a 30 year old UFA.
A fast, 6'4, 215lb top line winger - that guy is going to get paaaaaaid and is going to looking for a giant retirement contract with a contender.

As far as I'm concerned that's a point in his favour if it brings his cost down. Two years is a lifetime with this management and signing 30-year-old power forwards long term is a poor investment.

So if you break down all the recent wheeling and dealing--OUT J.T. Miller, Desharnais, Brannstrom, Heinen and prospects Fernstrom and Dorrington, along with the protected first rounder from the Rangers.

IN Mancini, Chytil, Marcus Pettersson and O'Connor. If they re-sign O'Connor, all the guys they acquired now have contracts for next season.

It really doesn't look that bad when you step back and reflect on it.

If Boeser is "playing hardball", just get whatever you can for him.

Can't afford to have a player trying to extort us for top dollar at this point, when you see a guy like Marcus Pettersson taking a market discount to play here.

I suspect the issue with Boeser and the Canucks isn't AAV, but term. I'm guessing Boeser wants 8 years, and the Canucks may want 5 at most.

I'd rather we keep him - but if the decision is ultimately that we are going to move on from him, I think letting him walk as a free agent is bad long term planning.

It's essentially

A very good JT Miller and trash

for

3 good players and a prospect

So according to averages... we defiantly came out on top

Boldy should have been the pick at the time.

I understood the logic of drafting Pod as a player with a different skillset the Nucks didn't have. If he hit, it would have been amazing.

But he didn't for numerous reasons.
I never understood the sense of Podz being drafted at that time by Vancouver, not because of any lack of skill or talent, but due to the fact he wouldn't be coming over for years when the team needed a player sooner than later. The fact he flamed out was just barf icing and that shit sandwich. ho ho

Weren't there rumours back in the day that he wasn't too keen on Vancouver?
Any rumour back in the day about him is bullshit to me, I cant believe how many times I heard his misquote "It is what it is" [how does it feel being ranked top 15 and falling to 25?] people saying he hated Vancouver, or f***ing Matt Bartkowski's mom calling him a little shit. Like f*** off, he had no business being in the NHL that year even though he was very good, it was all Benning's drama

McCann showed well enough during preseason to warrant a couple "cups of coffee" games before being sent down.

But because they drafted McCann after the legendary Jake Virtanen, it would look bad if Virtanen didn't stick around as well.

It was a complete mistake and if they had to do both or neither, it should have been neither.

Instead, they made a huge production out of them staying and it turned to shit.

The fact he was traded for RealGud made it even worse.

If I recall, he was upset that he wasn't being given a chance in the top six, or really being played at all. Which, to his credit, he was 100% right, and proved it. But we had Willie D back then, so hardly a surprise.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat if the price isn't too high. He's more of a left winger now from what Seattle fans are saying. Which fits exactly what we need on the second line.

I actually watched this clip recently because I had misremembered it (similar to how you describe it)

There was some commentary about him slipping in the draft, but that was presented to the TV audience, not to McCann.

The dialogue between Duthie and McCann was:

"alright Jarred McCann sits down next to me,....you've represented Canada twice internationally and now you've been drafted by a Canadian team, what does this moment mean to you"

"It's amazing, you know I've never thought of being a Vancouver Canuck, ahhh, but it is what it is, and I'm very excited and very honored to be part of the organization...uhhh yeah.." laughs at himself for being a bit scrambly...nerves.

he seemed happy with the outcome IMO

2:15 in.

If I recall right, there was a guy who was only involved with the team in a very limited capacity - I want to see Andrey Pedan? Or maybe Nikita Tryamkin? - who said Jared McCann had an "attitude".

Other than that, I think there was some horrific quote from Benning about Florida calling him to offer Gudbranson and Benning immediately offering up McCann or something stupid like that.

All of that is to say, I don't think there was any issue with McCann in Vancouver other than Benning being Benning and just shitting away assets for garbage.

EDIT: I'm giving myself a gold star, it was in fact Andrey Pedan who had an issue with McCann. Interestingly, the article also has a quote from Matt Bartkowski's Mom, and it begged the question - McCann or Virtanen?
