Bring in Wheeler for PP2 and the middle 6 if he's bought out by the Jets. Would come in at less than DBC and would provide more size and play in the tougher areas.

I'm also fully in favour of finding a way to bring back EK.

No sir. There's a reason they're thinking of buying him out, no good in locker room and we don't need that right now.

Hamonic was no good in the locker room as well. Until he wasn't.
But...this appears different. Imagine = a team is going to BUY OUT a player who was captain and had a decent year last year. Not try to trade him and retain, buy out. There must be some shit behind that, don't you think?

I thought so too. They have tried to move him and cannot get proper value in return because of his NMC and 5 team trade list. So they are apparently now willing to simply part ways.

Interesting. Is that what it is? If true, I took people's comments in the main board thread at face value and they appear wrong.

Not certain. But with the way his contract is structured, he has all the leverage with respect to movement.

Anyhow, I'd be thrilled if he was to come in at a lower cap hit for a year or two and replace much of DBC's production. Moneyball move.

Still, you’d trade him for a bag of pucks if at all possible before having to buy him out no?

Something rotten in Winny for sure. Schieffle rumoured to be a pos as well?

Sounds like the locker room has problems.

Yeah, I still think where there's smoke there's fire and I'd keep those guys away from our locker room.

If he was strategic about the 5 teams on his list, that may not be possible.

Oh I absolutely agree, I mad more commenting on the idea that because he had a narrow NMC and weren’t getting value back that they were buying him out.

You'd think that ANY value back would be better if that’s the alternative.

Totally get it, if there is nothing coming back, or a crap contract tied to the return or something, that would make sense.

I don't think so, although I do think the Rangers will be in on him, because...Rangers.

Also, I'm quite attached to Kastelic, I might have a problem. I view him as the absolute perfect 4 C.

Kastelic has been my favourite 4th line player since Zenon Konopka. But I think the motivation to save 2.4 million in a lateral trade would be compelling to New York.

I’ve seen Lindgren’s name in a few capfriendly proposals, maybe we do a 3 for 3. DeBrincat, Kastelic, Brannstrom for Chytil, Goodrow, Lindgren.

Then send Hotsam and Joey to San Jose for some guy named Erik?

Kasty’s biggest issue is consistency. He’s young though so that’s part of the deal.

He’s a keeper, he just needs that intensity to be present in most games.

I think he was fighting some back issues this year, hopefully it's not something that will follow him around his whole career because when he's on his game I think he's an impact player (at least, to the extent a 4th liner can be).

Yeah that’s true, and those can be brutal.

I agree about his impact, and also about the concerns over back injuries.

There was talk about consistency of effort though throughout the season, and you could certainly see when he was ‘on’ in a game. I really hope it was learning to play consistently, and not nagging back issues!

Holy shit, I must have missed that, because if there's one guy who never took a shift off, it was Kastelic.

I suppose you have to do it if Kakko and Chytil are involved, let alone Goodrow. At this point, I think NY tells you to go f*** yourself though.

Playing around on capfriendly and the numbers are difficult anyways. I don’t believe that speculation from that one article but who knows.

The main thing that made me think we'd still get a good piece or two for DeBrincat was the lack of other options, whether via UFA or trade.

Calgary blowing it up changes that. Lindholm, Toffolli, Hanifin, Backlund on the market.

And if those guys are going it doesn't make sense for them to hold onto Huberdeau or Kadri (if they can find takers), Coleman, Tanev, etc...

Not great.
