DBC extended to WIld for Marco Rossi. The wild get a much needed scoring threat in DBC The wild should have cap space with Dumba 6 million a year contract expiring. The Sens get a great prospect in Rossi while saving some money to eventually sign Sanderson long term.
MN has nowhere near the cap space to afford DBC, and they need C's, not wings. DBC is not a fit for MN.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that guy. Yeah, he could be a 4LW option.

I disagree though that Martinook is a decent option. He's a bottom 6 player. He's a good bottom six player, but still not a good option for top 6. Maybe Greig could step in, but that is a big gamble. He was inconsistent last year. Which is fair for such a young player.
I think Formenton would be a good option for that 2nd line LW & push Martinook to the 3rd line but who knows what will happen with him. I think Greig would be the long term solution when he is physically & mentally mature enough to produce consistently. I think Ostapchuk is another potential future bottom six LW solution as well as Jarventie, but who knows with these prospects at this point.

Huge Bruce info dump.

On DeBrincat...
If DeBrincat really wants an eight-year deal, then the Senators would be willing to table one today, but he won’t have those discussions.
Dorion has spent the past couple of weeks working on a deal to move DeBrincat before the NHL draft and, at the very least, before free agency opens July 1.
There’s a number of layers surrounding DeBrincat’s unwillingness to sign with the Senators. First and foremost, he’s not sure he wants to spend the next years of his career in Canada and there’s a belief he knows he’ll never be the No. 1 left winger here ahead of captain Brady Tkachuk.
Dorion knows his best bet to get a good return is to do a deal with a team that will sign DeBrincat to an extension. That’s why the club asked his agent Jeff Jackson for a list of places where he’d sign earlier this month.

It’s believed DeBrincat’s list includes the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights and the Detroit Red Wings.
The Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, Seattle Kraken and St. Louis Blues are all looking for scoring, so they are possible destinations, too.

“The issue is the market is flooded with forwards right now and some of the clubs don’t have the cap space,” a league executive told Postmedia last week. “This won’t be an easy deal to make.”
Last year, the Minnesota Wild were in a similar position with RFA winger Kevin Fiala. He was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick and the rights to prospect defenceman Brock Faber.

Fiala then signed a seven-year, $55-million deal with the Kings. This is a two-time 40-goal scorer, so it would be nice if the Senators were able to get a little more in return.
On RFA's...

Dorion said earlier this month he hasn’t made a decision forward Julien Gauthier, who was acquired from the New York Rangers at the deadline in exchange for veteran forward Tyler Motte.

It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the organization decided not to keep Gauthier.

Then, there’s centre Dylan Gambrell. He has done a lot of good work in a fourth-line role, but he’s on a one-way deal and that money may be better spent elsewhere.

The talk is the club will move from on prospect Victor Lodin and it’s hard to believe goaltender Dylan Ferguson will be brought back.
On Formenton...

It should be noted that the Senators don’t need to make a qualifying offer to winger Alex Formenton.
Dorion tried to trade him before the deadline, but couldn’t get what wanted in return, so the club held onto his rights.
He’ll either be back here next season or there’s a strong chance he’ll be traded. Formenton is currently on the club’s reserve list and can’t play anywhere other than Europe.

The expectation is he gets moved.
On depth...

The Senators didn’t get nearly enough scoring from their third and fourth lines. That’s an area that has to improve, which is why it makes sense to move on from Gambrell. You can address those areas by giving up future draft picks or signing unrestricted free agents.

On toughness...

The Senators have decided to move on from Austin Watson. They need to replace his hard-nosed style, plus he scored nine goals last season and killed penalties. You have to think they’ll look at veteran winger Corey Perry. He makes sense. This club is ready to be a contender and he can help. The Senators could also use a guy like Philadelphia’s Nicolas Deslauriers. He won’t be traded, but he’s one of the NHL’s toughest players and he can contribute.

On goaltending...

Let’s get this out of the way: Don’t expect the Senators to acquire veteran Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets. If he doesn’t want to sign an extension there, he’s likely not going to want to come here.

The options are limited, but there are some goalies available.

The club could look at UFAs Frederik Anderson (Carolina), Semyon Varlamov (Islanders), Adin Hill (Vegas), Tristin Jarry (Pittsburgh) and Joonas Korpisalo (Los Angeles Kings).

Philadelphia’s Carter Hart and Anaheim’s John Gibson are available for trade.

Ahaha, and there’s a belief he knows he’ll never be the No. 1 left winger here ahead of captain Brady Tkachuk.

That was already known, if I recall we were asking for a 2nd Rd pick.
That was prior to the Dec. 1st signing deadline for RFA players. I wonder if that's the deadline Bruce is referring to here?

Man that's such a bloody waste. Frig
It's worth noting that they couldn't even get that for him at the time. If he is traded he will basically be given away.

So I am already penciling Perry on the 4RW spot based on Bruce’s article.

Formenton would be a sick piece to add to the roster next year but that bridge has burned.

With hindsight the sens could have had him all last season since no findings of the investigation came out. Maybe Formenton could have been that spark on the third line that helped the team squeek out another 5-6 pts on the season?

Don't want to see Greig play on the 4th line, it will stunt his offensive develment prematurely. If he can't crack the 3rd line or higher, he should stay and develop one more year in the AHL before making the jump. His upside is higher than a 4th line grinder. I'd like to see Sokolov on that 3rd line first though.

He was qualified and could have signed and played if he wanted to…. Unless there was more going on behind the scenes of course.

We have Smegal from Europe to fit in aS well. He has a shot to make the 4th line.

Debrincat for Duchene?

1M in cap savings, Duchene scored 40+ the same time Debrincat last did it. Bigger and faster player too.

I know I am going to hear that Duchene is a small one dimensional forward and we don't need that etc. Still think he would slot in nicely as #2LW. He has a 7 team NTC tho but I think Ottawa without Melnyk left a good impression.

Would want the Oilers 1st thrown it. No way that's a fair straight up swap.

Duchene's NTC kicks in in 2023/24. Assuming that means the start of free agency, shouldn't need him to waive.

Even if the Preds are trying to get younger while still going for the playoffs, not sure they they'd dump Duchene.

They should have enough cap space to fit DeBrincat in without that being necessary.

We need to bring in a goalie. We must not be going in expecting miracles from Forsberg . Priority should be using DBC for that imo.

Hard pass. Don't think he's the type of player we need. Don't want him near any of our guys.
