Chabot for weegar

I really don't see a team with aspirations to make the playoffs trade a core piece like Chabot after they just added a Dman. Pure concept standpoint it makes sense to trade Chabot for a RD but looking at what he means to this team and how he's respected in the locker room it would be a huge blow to the morale of the team at this point. You don't do such a drastic move IMO.

I think regardless of what happens in the future Chabot stays with the team for the next 2 years. They will have a big decision to make when Sanderson and Chychrun will be up for contracts though so I could see Chabot traded at that point if he doesn't bounce back. I assume he will bounce back though.

I think it's more likely Sanderson shifts to the right side and plays with Chabot or Chychrun.

When it comes to Debrincat trade...Do you think he would have more value last year or this year traded with an extension? let's say 8 x 8

Definitely with an 8x8. Why would a player with 2 years of term be worth more than a player with 8 years of term?

Boots on the ground at Montreal GP this weekend and I can report that Formenton was there with Mete. Seems like he may have had a baby too, not 100% sure.

1. Add whatever is needed to Debrincat/Debrincat's trade return + Brännström to land Keller. Perfect age, perfect player type, perfect contract.

2. Mathieu Joseph for Andrew Peeke (both underperformed and CBJ has Werenski, Severson, Provorov, Bean, Boqvist, Gurbranson signed to big contracts).

3. Sign Formenton for 2.75M x 5 years, C. Brown for 3.5M x 2 years.

4. Swing and miss on Hart, Ullmark/Swayman. Gibson makes too much $$ for his recent performance. Hellebuyck won't play in Canada again. Vejmelka will cost a REALLY solid asset. Pray that Forsberg is healthy (he's not bad when he is) and that Sogaard can find his groove in the NHL.

Tkachuk - Stützle - Giroux
Keller - Norris - Batherson
Formenton - Pinto - C. Brown
Smejkal - Kastelic - Kelly
Greig

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Peeke
Chychrun - JBD
Kleven

Forsberg (how good would Gus look here?)
Sogaard

PP1
Tkachuk - Stützle - Norris
Keller/Batherson - Sanderson

PP2
Giroux - Pinto - Keller/Batherson
Chychrun - Chabot

Home run on Keller. It would make so much sense. It's a perfect storm for it

To Carolina: DeBrincat RW/LW, Zub RD, Joseph LW/RW & Brannstrom LD
To Ottawa: 2023 2nd rd pick (62nd OA), Andersen G, Pesce RD & Martinook LW

- this is a hockey trade where both teams get what they need at an affordable cost
- Car gets a prolific point producer which they need in DBC & a RD replacement for Pesce in Zub who may be slightly better defensively while Pence is sightly better offensively & fits into Ott's top 4 a little better & Brann gives them depth at LD
- Ott gets a #1 goalie, a top 4 RD & a LW player who can fit into the top 6/9. They also get a late 2nd rd pick for the 2023 draft. This trade addresses four areas of need for Ott, but the downside is that they have to assure that Andersen comes with a deal in place & Pesce & Matinook are willing to re-sign for a little longer after next season. Ott gets bigger, tougher, better & harder to play against while still being able to produce about the same amount of pts.
- this also gives Ott some breathing room with their budget & potential to add another player if Formenton doesn't return.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux - 175 pt plus line
Martinook - Norris - Batherson - 150 pt plus line
Formenton - Pinto - Sokolov - 125 pt plus bottom six
Jiri - Kastelic - Gauthier/Kelly - 50 pts = 500 pts @ $47 mil

Chabot - Chychrun - 80 plus pt tandem
Sanderson - Pesce - 60 pt tandem
Kleven - Hamonic/JBD - 10 pts = 150 pts @ $21 mil

Andersen - Forsberg/Sogaard - should be a decent goaltending tandem @ $7 mil

I'd love Pesce here, but I'd rather not put Zub in the deal.

Isn't Andersen a FA?

Mayfield or Soucy to round out defence with some size.

Or Gudas. But yes.

Bring in someone to play the "Kleven" role next to Brannstrom until Kleven is actually ready.

Trade one of Lassi/JBD away this summer as part of a package for a middle-six F and keep the other one on a very short leash at the #7D.

A bottom pairing defenceman is far from the priority this off-season, but if the team is going to run it back/go cheap in nets they better have the depth on D to defend on all 3 pairs. There's also a bunch of options this off-season and (presumably) some cap open with DeBrincat on the way out.

Andersen is an FA, but this allows them to make a deal with him now before July 1 & who knows if he would pick us after July 1. Zub's contract is starting to look expensive for a defensive D, I like the player but not sure he brings enough offensively for that cost. Fitting everyone under the cap is going to be a problem given the dead cap this yr.

I see, you should have put rights to Andersen then.

The problem with your deal is that it creates a pretty big hole on LW. Martinook is a 3rd/4th liner. He would not fit in the top 6. Formenton is a pipe dream. He's never playing for the Sens again. I'm not sure who Jiri is.

Jiri Smejkal LW, they signed him recently & he will likely be fighting with Kelly for that 4th line LW spot. Martinook had 34 pts last yr in Car & with Norris & Batherson could be a decent player but losing DBC does create a big hole there. I even think Formenton would be great in that spot but who knows what will happen to him. It's likely that Greig is forced to play on LW, I'm just not sure he is NHL ready just yet but it's likely he could be that 2nd line LW of the future. It's not ideal but regardless what happens not everyone is going to be happy, I was just trying to fill a few holes with one deal.

I agree. They need to figure out who can play with who. They have to figure out the pairings and who the key RDs will be. Hopefully its Chychrun but I think they played him on both sides with different partners after the trade to Ottawa last year.

Plus, they need to have a decent enough 3rd pairing so that the top 2 pairs don't have to play excessive minutes all year long.

Keller isn't being traded, but I do find it amusing how quickly HF opinion shifts on players.

A year ago DeBrincat was viewed around here as a superstar 40-50G threat and Keller was only one season removed from being considered a bad contract.

One season later and no one wants DeBrincat and everyone is thirsting over Keller

agreed

Middleton is an option imo

Minnesota is tight on the cap, need to sign at least 5 players (Gus and Addison should get decent raises)

Middleton+Foligno for Joseph+Kelly+pick

Saves Minny 2.5 million, allowing them to go the term route with either Gus/Addison while being able to add to the team

Sens get size on defense and a protocol bottom 6 player in foligno

A defense of

Chabot-Chychrun
Sanderson-Zub
Middleton-Brannstrom
JBD

gives us a proper well rounded group. JBD will get at least 40 games to play just due to injuries

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that guy. Yeah, he could be a 4LW option.

I disagree though that Martinook is a decent option. He's a bottom 6 player. He's a good bottom six player, but still not a good option for top 6. Maybe Greig could step in, but that is a big gamble. He was inconsistent last year. Which is fair for such a young player.
