Pesce + Necas for Debrincat + Chabot

Extensions all prearranged.

What needs to be added to even it out?
I feel like the value isn’t that far off, but I just don’t really get why Carolina would be doing this. Unless we add another significant piece, just feels like a lateral move for them at best and them doing us a favor with the Debrincat situation.

I don't think this is the best move for them, but from what Waddell said at the end of the season, it does sound like there could be some core shuffling there, so maybe they'd be open to some form of that.

Exactly, hell of deal for a player of his caliber. Declining salary and at least the rumored 18% retention from the Sharks would be one heck of a deal based on his play last year. Can he keep it up is the only question to ask.

the Cap hit would be a problem

Yes, obviously a big piece is heading out in any of these scenarios.

The DeBrincat situation also leaves a lot of questions unanswered about our cap space until it's resolved.

I would hope we could get a bit more retention on Karlsson than the original 18% that was thrown out initially.

Agree that I'm not sure whether the Canes would be motivated to do this. Depends on how people view Pesce. I could see people thinking Pesce is the better defender.

Pesce is a great defensive Dman, if you swap out Chabot for him, our best offensive defenceman, our scoring will take a big hit. Rather Karlsson if we can get the Sharks to retain 2m on his cap, that would be perfect for what we need.

Was scoring a big problem? Or, was keeping the puck out of our own net the bigger issue? I think it may been the later, although I could be misremembering (didn't check the stats).

Pesce had 30 points last year, while Chabot had 41. Pesce is definitely the better defensive defenseman. Might not be much of a net difference if Pesce is reducing the goals scored against. Pesce is also a RD whereas I think our strength & abundance is more on LD.

Let's at least dream. If the sale was completed already, Alfie would probably push for it.

Way too many cooks in the kitchen. Especially for guy like EK who insists on being the head chef.

I love Karlsson and will always be in awe of his abilities. But there's a reason why contenders aren't lining up to add him onto their team (or any team for that matter). He makes too much, doesn't defend well enough, and he appears to get better the worse his team around him is (not the trend you want lol).

The Sens have a 3-5 year window imo. And if there's a magic window we can pick him up towards the end of his deal for an epic cup run. Then count me all in for that.

I love Erik...but man, I really don't see him living up to his contract in 2 years. If we were in the last 1-2 years of our contending window, it would be no problem, but we're not.

Lots of trade proposals or ideas these days with rebuilding teams. What kind of assets are a rebuilding team looking for? It's typically high draft picks, good prospects and good, young ELCs. That's the strategy we used for our rebuild and that's the way it's normally done.

We may want to offer an older, more expensive player that we want to move anyhow for whatever reason or reasons, but is that the kind of asset that the rebuilding team is trying to acquire and would be attracted to? Probably better to focus on what the trading partner is trying to accomplish as the first step. My two pesos.

This infatuation with Karlsson just needs to end. He just played his first healthy season since 2015-16 and had more points than his previous 3 seasons combined. Why would we assume the risk of the contract? How does he help this team get better defensively? And how the hell do you make the cap work without sacrificing more futures to get San Jose to retain? Come on guys. His time has past, we can cheer him on for whatever he team he plays for but it doesn't need to be here.

Too many cooks in the kitchen?

I guess the 80's Islanders, Oilers, 90's Penguins, Wings, Avalanche, 2000's Kings, Hawks, Penguins, Tampa

All have to return their multiple cups because they had too many cooks in the kitchen.

What a bizarre thing to say for someone who has seen their team miss the playoffs for 6 years.

And he gets better if the team is worse?? lol you realize you're punishing him for doing something that almost no other defenceman can do right? How many other defenceman do you see carrying the team, none.

And anyway he has played on good-great teams what like 3 times in his career, 2011 Sens, Sweden Olympic, 2019 Sharks, he dominated with all three teams. So what the hell are you talking about lol?
