Get worse and more expensive?l, expiring contracts?
I am a big fan of Konecny so I likely rank him higher than most. I think Konecny is the best player in the trade. 5.5 million for two more years seems reasonable to me. Tippett a 24 year old powerforward scored 27 goals last year and makes 1,5 million at seasons end he will be RFA.

Someone will regret a Karlsson deal, shouldn’t be the Sens.

Maybe before his explosion last season you could have convinced SJ into retaining a big chunk but with the season he put up they’ve got decent leverage to refuse now.

No interest in that contract.

I don't see a world in which San Jose doesn't retain some salary to get a deal done. Very few teams who would be interested in acquiring EK would have the cap space to eat the full $11.5m. Probably just means the price went up a bit, but I don't think they'll be getting out of that contract without some salary being retained.

SJ GM has publicly said he would retain 18%.

Oh I agree they’ll have to retain something. Question is how much. Before this season it could have been a lot. Now… I don’t know. I wouldn’t be interested in him if he’s making more than Tim.

Was scoring a big problem? Or, was keeping the puck out of our own net the bigger issue? I think it may been the later, although I could be misremembering (didn't check the stats).

Pesce had 30 points last year, while Chabot had 41. Pesce is definitely the better defensive defenseman. Might not be much of a net difference if Pesce is reducing the goals scored against. Pesce is also a RD whereas I think our strength & abundance is more on LD.
41pts in 68 games, in a down year. He's a 55-60pt defensemen with more upside, it's stupid to argue that there isn't a significant gap between him and Pesce, who's a 30pt type dman at best. And offence is generated and starts from the backend with the D-men, so yes, scoring will take a hit, especially with him being anchoring the PP as well.

Keeping pucks out of our own end is a defensive structure issue, it's a systemic problem, Pesce alone wont fix that, it will need to be a team effort and that requires an experienced coach that can teach it and implement it. Won't come with DJ still in charge.

If you get SJ to take 18% and have another team eat 10% it could be viable. For the Sens to do it, we'd probably have to move Chabot which doesn't seem very likely. Personally, I'd give Chabot one more season before looking to move him. He really hasn't been living up to his contract, but he's also been playing a lot every night. Hopefully with Sanderson's continued development they can start splitting ice time up a little more evenly.

I see one 55 point season in 2018-19 (70 games), and then 39 points the following year (2019-20) in 71 games. So, he hasn't hit 60 points in his career, and hit 55 points just once. Pesce is a RD that could anchor a pair and make that pair solid. I think the comment about systems is valid, but I'm not sure we have our pairings worked out and a large part of that is we need another good RD to accomplish that goal. Those good RDs can be unicorns and difficult to find. So, it's not really "stupid" to value a defenseman that is good at defending and keeping the puck out of your net versus making big defensive lapses at key times which we've seen Thomas do too often over the last couple of years. A team needs just one more goal than its opponent during a game to be successful. Try to be a little more respectful when you post.

I was calling your insinuation that there isn't much difference in the impact on offense stupid, not you. Dont take it so personnaly, but it is a dumb argument to make that they are close. Chabot is also pivotal to pp success, Pesce wont come close to making up that gap. You replace Chabby with Pesce and offense will suffer significantly. The RD argument is valid, but swapping them will be a net negative for us, not positive.

He hasn't been charged. Wearing a pride jersey is a choice. Heatley was a hockey player who drove drunk. Maybe he should have but Quinn's family forgave him & wouldn't press charges. The world is full of horrific stories, GW Bush lied to the world murdered millions of people & is living like a billionaire on his Texas ranch.
I'm pretty sure that Heatley had one beer in his blood stream when that accident happened. He was not drunk. That would have been vehicular homicide

Actually he was charged with vehicular homicide and plead to 2nd degree vehicular homicide

On the booze front

Heatley had consumed alcohol but was not impaired during the crash, as tests conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation showed that his blood-alcohol level was well below the state legal limit

Goal scoring was definitely the bigger issue 5v5, but the pp made up for it. All situations it was actually pretty close, we were 18th in scoring and 20th in goals allowed.

I would like to see Saros, Helly or at least Varlamov in net for us 😎

Next sign me up for Marcus Foglino from Minny or Reeves. More sand paper on the bottom 6 please.

Mayfield or Soucy to round out defence with some size.

Forms has to be back next year and maybe take a flyer on Brown return of Foglino from Bruins on a cheap one year deal.

Just for here...

Which kind of brings me back to my point. It's not like keeping the puck out of our net isn't a concern for us. We could definitely improve there being that we are in the bottom half of the league. The poster I was communicating with I thought was placing a big emphasis on the difference of about 10 points between the 2 defensemen in question (the single 55 point season was the high water mark and an outlier from what I could see). It's not as if defensive blunders that lead to goals against couldn't erase all or most of that differential. That's without considering the far greater availability of a LD versus a RD. The Canes have been one of the NHL's top teams for several years. I think a lot of that is due to their defense.

I imagine adding Chychrun will already address the goals against, since it brings much better balance to the backend, as should finding a starting goalie who can stay healthy. Hopefully we also won't be running with a rookie as our 2nd line center too, which should help.

That seems obvious to me. IMO he's done in Ottawa and parting ways is likely a mutual goal, if he is allowed back in the league.
With new ownership and management I wouldn't totally rule him out coming back. However I do think it's highly unlikely and there is 0 chance he plays in the NHL for anyone this upcoming season.

It'd be hard to have a similar level of inconsistency in goaltending next year. We used 7 starters with about 25 games started by someone that likely shouldn't have been playing in the NHL. League average for starting the AHL developing guys is probably 5 to 8 games. Lots of teams only used 2 guys last year.

Having Chychrun right out of the gate should be a huge boost. We've got 4 legit top 4 guys and 3 of them are legit top pair guys.

Hopefully all that shows up in the goals against column

Yes, this is what I am hoping as well. Got to hope Chychrun will be a key component on the right side of our defense. That's a big opportunity for improvement for us, so I hope it's realized. I think we have four good defensemen now, but my concern is that we need to have two good top pairs and placing defenders in the right slots so that they play well together as a unit and compliment each other.

Goaltending is another issue to be firmed up and addressed as well. Having Norris healthy will help as well.

Dorion or the new GM will have some work to do this offseason.

I wonder if andlauer will want to make a big move this summer to announce his arrival. Could be something big that we haven't thought of

Shane Pinto for Arber Xhekaj. Nobody has thought of that.

Sens are deep at C, but small and soft on D. Xhekaj played for Andlauer's Bulldogs in the OHL. Makes a lot of sense.
