Idk, this seems a bit reductive, Pinto was overwhelmed in the #2 slot and didn't have anyone to help out with the defensive side. Kane had an experienced vet in Sharp on the other wing, and both Handzus and Bolland were very capable at both ends of the ice.Agreed that typically it is a center but wingers can drive lines. The ones that get paid 8 million in this league are capable of doing it. While Pinto wasnt an ideal #2 yet there are way worse ones out there. Chicago won a cup with Handzus/Bolland as a second line center. Because Kane could drive a line.
Kane was/is a borderline generational talent, so I don't really think that's a fair comparison, Kane went on to sign what would be the equivalent of a 12.75 mil contract in today's terms,
It's unfortunate that DeBrincat didn't have one more year on the current deal, this past year, he's playing in a new city for the first time, under a new coach with a new system trying to find chemistry with new linemates, just had a baby, is adapting to no longer playing with a guy like Kane for the first time, lots of things to adapt to for a guy that's still only 25. Top it off with Batherson clearly not playing well for more than half the season and Pinto over his head.
