Basically the only 3 pieces of our bottom six set in stone are the Cs Pinto and Kastelic and Joseph, all other spots are open.

We don't know about Formenton yet, Greig might need seasoning in the AHL and the others and below replacement.

Need to make the third line much, much better.

Yeah, he tried, that son of a gun Dorion, bless his heart. But that was a waste of time and space.
motte was fine. good pk guy. 18 points over a full season. pinto moving up a line essentially killed him. they had good chemistry.

after that. he should have taken kelly’s spot on the fourth line

Hopefully Formenton is cleared. It would do wonders to our bottom six/ If he is such a threat, why would they let him leave the country and play hockey in a foreign market? And why is there no rush to either indict or dismiss this case? I thought justice had to be swift and impartial...hanging it over the head of the alleged victim and the alleged perpetrators is not due process.

Given the relatively long time it is taking for the London Police and the crown attorneys to announce the results of their second investigation and their intent to lay charges or not, I suspect that they are having difficulty making a strong case to support going to court. I also suspect that a legal proceeding would require the lady making the allegations to appear in court to provide evidence, and that this could be very troubling and disturbing for her.

Kelly also has an NHL contract for next season and therefore likely has the 12th or 13th forward spot.

We need a LW and a RW. The candidates include Greig, Gambrell, Gauthier, Formenton, P. Brown, Brassard and maybe Watson. Of those I would prefer Formenton at LW and a big tough physically tough RD (Reaves or someone like him). I think Greig needs more development and maturation.

I'd very heavily suggest you start Greig in the AHL and get a RW for the 3rd line - someone who can put the puck in the net and move up and down the lineup if need be.

Let's say Formenton is cleared:

Formenton - Pinto - ?
?? - Kastelic - ??
Brassard

Don't care if Kelly has an NHL contract personally. He can be a call up.

What is Carolina going to do in net with Andersen or Rannta? Who do they keep & who do they trade or allow to walk? What does Varlamov do, return to the NYI or walk to free agency? Is Hellbuyck or Gibson available or are they staying put? There are a few goalies that could be available this summer & if Ottawa wants to acquire a new #1 goalie they will have a few choices.

IMO they should make a trade before July 1 to acquire a UFA goalie going into free agency so they can get rid of some salary so they are not stuck with it. I would trade a guy like Joseph who IMO makes too much for the return we get from him. Frederick Andersen is proving to be a very good regular season goalie & has also had some playoff success & could be affordable for Ottawa. Gibson & Hellybuyck could prove to be too expensive given the resources it would cost & still pay their salary on top of that.

Carolina is likely losing a few players after these playoffs & might need a fast player like Joseph given they put a lot of emphacies on speed. They could also be losing a D or two ( DeHahn & Gostisbehere are both UFAs) & Brannstrom could fill a role for them. Brannstrom & Joseph's salaries would help pay for Andersen.

Before July 1:
To Carolina: Brannstrom LD & Joseph RW/LW ($4 mil approx.)
To Ottawa: Andersen G ($4.5 mil)

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux ($22 mil)
DBC - Norris - Batherson ($21.5 mil)
Formenton - Pinto - Sokolov ($6 mil)
Jiri/Kelly - Kastelic - Gauthier ($3.5 mil) = $53 mil

Chabot - Zub ($12.5 mil)
Sanderson - Chychrun ($5.5 mil)
Kleven - Hamonic/JBD ($4 mil) = $22 mil

Andersen - Forsberg/Sogaard ($7 mil) = $82 mil

Yes, but we need to get rid of money & I'm not sure there is a market for either Brannstrom or Joseph. This way we get to negotiate with him before he is UFA.

What if I may ask did you do with the $5 million of retained money for next year?

i think greig is set in stone to start the season as a 4th liner with a quick leash (depending on the coach)

if formenton is able to come back

formenton-Pinto-Joseph
Greig-Kastelic-XXXX

if formenton isnt able to come back
XXXX-Pinto-Joseph
Greig-Kastelic-XXXX

if we get kelly from 2 years ago i am fine with him getting that 4th line spot, if we dont then yeah we need upgrade

whoever we get for that 4th line needs to be an average nhl skater at least

Nah to Kelly. And i have nothing against the player, but we need guys who can move up and down the lineup if need be, not guys who can't score if their life depended on it.

Greig i can get on board with as a 4th liner, but realistically should he be there or logging huge minutes in ahl?

Anyone see the article in the Globe this week about the HC situation?

Apparently the league has turned over everything it knows about the situation based on its review and player interviews. London police have indicated they've got enough info to charge 5 people with sexual assault

I kind of wonder about London police saying they could charge 5. If they could, why haven't they.

I hope this gets settled in time to make roster decisions with / without Formenton

We are not competing for the cup with Sokolov on the third line. He’s currently not an NHL player.

I would like to see more of a playoff/ tough hard to play against preferably right shot defenceman added to our top 4 defence. Or at least at a minimum in our bottom pairing defense we need an upgrade in physical play.
We need at minimum one defenceman that opposing teams really fear because he is nasty. We need that one defenceman because it will make every player on our team play BIGGER with him in the lineup and keep the other teams honest.

Chychrun to Florida for Montour
Zub and Joseph to Calgary for Andersson
DeBrincat to Arizona for Crouse

Tkachuk Stutzle Batherson
Crouse Norris Giroux
Killorn Pinto Formenton
Kelly/ Kasty /Watson /Gauthier/ acquire Tanner Jeannot??

Kleven JBD Hamonic (L. Stanley or Jaycob Megna and Kleven could be the tall towers of doom!!)
Swayman/ or Anderson / Forsberg

The police have one chance to get this right and the case involves millionaire players. The police’s, and player’s, credibility is on the line and lawsuits will follow. No doubt they want to a thorough investigation.

The difference could be that while the police could lay charges, I think the prosecution only typically prosecutes cases that have a chance of winning, otherwise it’s not really in the public interest? The difference between those two thresholds could be the issue/hold up/sticking point.

The LD likely want to make sure there is no egg on their face by releasing that they have enough information to press charge, puts any further issues on the prosecutors doorstep. Which matters in this case because the Gov is sniffing around and making things very public.
